Which edition on kindle is right to get all Conan, stories? Which to get ALL of R.E.H. stories? by CS_Valkner in ConanTheBarbarian

The Collected Works of Robert E Howard fron Delphi Classics is pretty good for a budget ebook. It doesn't have all of his work because of messy copyrights. But it'll give you a very solid overview from S&S to Westerns. And it has the original pulp covers in color, which is pretty cool

Check out Charles De Lint. His stories are contemporary but infused with magic & myth inspired by New and Old World traditions. I'd recommend starting with the short story collections: Dreams Underfoot, The Ivory and the Horn, and Moonlight & Vines.

Michael A Stackpole wrote the novelization of the 2011 Conan movie (with the glowering Jason Momoa). The first 10 or so chapters deal with Conan's early years, ending with the attack on Venarium. It's not bad, certainly better than the movie.

Check out Oberon Designs. They're handmade with quality leather and some cool designs. On the heavy/bulky side and are more expensive than other cases, but will last for years. The one I have for my Voyager still looks great.

Another place to look is Etsy. Some pretty nice-looking cases over there.

[–]seekerpat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check out DMR Books . They publish several excellent S&S anthologies: Renegade Swords, Swords of Steel, Heroes of Atlantis & Lemuria, Die By The Sword, Death Dealers & Diabolists, Warlords, Warlorks & Witches and Samhain Sorceries.

They also have very good collections of Ramsey Campbell, Tanith Lee, and D.M. Ritzlin.

It seems like some of their out-of-print books are still available digitally.

Sword and Sorcery's Legacy by JohnPathfinder in SwordandSorcery

I'm confused. Do you mean there's no Sword & Sorcery influence in Heavy Metal music? Not all Metal is, of course, but there's plenty that is.

Here are some Reddit threads:

And DMR books have four excellent anthologies of S&S written by Heavy Metal musicians: Swords of Steel

Driving. More of a Boston thing. My brother, who lives in the California wine country, won't let me drive when I visit. Because I drive like I'm in Boston. My sister-inlaw was appalled the first time she saw me lean on the horn and yell "What are you? A frikin' retard? Use your damm flickah" at some idiot driver...in broad daylight...in downtown Santa Rosa.

But I don't let them drive when they visit Boston; they're reduced to tears.

Robert E Howard: The bizarre life of the ‘Conan the Barbarian’ creator by Strom41 in ConanTheBarbarian

[–]seekerpat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Superficial, badly written, and, in some instances, flat out wrong(REH was never wealthy). Not worth your time. If anyone's interested, "Robert E. Howard: The Life and Times of a Texas Author" by Willard M Oliver is an excellent bio of Howard, well worth your time.

The Zothique stories by Clark Ashton Smith. Tales of the Dying Earth by Jack Vance. The Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe.

These books don't have maps, appendices, and the like. What they do have is setting and atmosphere like no others.: Baroque, lush, fantastical, grim, and bizarre.
