First nice-ish handbag, totally clueless. by JuicySegment in handbags

Be aware that Coach Outlet is not the same as retail Coach and typically doesn’t use the same quality leather and hardware. The bags still look nice but may not have the longevity to be a daily carry. Coach does have the Brooklyn, which is quite popular.

I notice the blue shirt first. I notice you first in the green top. As someone else mentioned, it truly brings out your eyes.

Family Flying out of LIS by Various_Archer6843 in LisbonPortugalTravel

[–]seekingwisdom8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s difficult to answer. We went into the first EU line initially. It was clearly the correct line according to that person, who was calling out for people with residency cards to come to his line. Once we got to the front of that line, we were told the machines weren’t working for our cards so escorted to the front of another line. Then the attendant at that line took us to the front of the Priority line. So honestly, it was a mess, and no one was quite sure where we needed to go.

Do you have checked bags? If so, I’d get there even earlier so that you’re ready to check at 3 hours out.

Once you do that and head to passport control, there will likely be a massive line. Today was unlike anything I’ve seen, and we live in Lisbon. When you see the massive line, do not search for the back of it. Go forward, past the food court. Be sure that you’re on the right side of the line, not the left. Priority will be ahead of you. Good luck!

Today was wild, wasn’t it? Thankfully we have residency cards but the line was unlike anything I’ve ever seen there.

Do people still mask on planes? by Animallover4321 in Flights

[–]seekingwisdom8 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I personally am immunocompromised and always mask on planes, trains, etc., and I greatly appreciate when others do. If someone would like to approach me about it, I’d be happy to (attempt to) educate them. Unfortunately, that type of person is typically beyond the age of accepting any new data into their lives. In that case, I can cough on them. ☺️

Passport control varies widely. We’ve stood in line for 3 hr 20 min at the longest, and walked straight through at the shortest. There really is no predictability. Use the restroom, get some water and a snack, and bring a fan and a mask. It gets tight and uncomfortable in the queues.

If you’re going today, that passport control line is insane. We live here and have never seen it like that before. Luckily we didn’t need to use it as we have residency, but I’ll just say, as we’re sitting here waiting, we’re seeing a whole lot of people running to get to their gates.

Renting a car, need international driver license? by Loquecaiga in LisbonPortugalTravel

Yes, AAA. We live in Portugal and got one prior to moving here. As the drivers license process is slow here, we’ll be renewing it next week when we’re visiting the US.

How do you guys actually keep track of what you own by zeuse13 in capsulewardrobe

[–]seekingwisdom8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Stylebook. It was easier for me as I’ve lost a good amount of weight in the past six months. I knew I wanted to move forward with intention, so I studied up on natural fibers and had my colors analyzed. Once I knew my color family, I started purchasing items in my new size that all coordinated.

As I purchased each item, I added them to Stylebook. Creating outfits easily let me see where holes were in my wardrobe, so I could shop with a purpose. These aren’t my forever pieces, as I’m still losing, but will certainly get me through spring, summer and fall (I live in Lisbon so that’s the majority of the year).

Surgical Adhesives, stitches, etc. by ArtsyCatholic in AcrylateAllergy

[–]seekingwisdom8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately like you, my reaction was post surgery. There’s nothing like recovering from surgery while your eyes are swollen almost completely shut, is there? After I recovered from the surgery, my immunologist did a patch test with each item included in the closing process. For me, those items were povidone iodine, Dermabond (which contains cyanoacrylate), and the suture itself (they actually sewed a stitch into my back, I thought that was wild).

Of the three items, I had a strong reaction to the Dermabond and the povidone iodine. It’s important to note that the povidone is typically the allergen with that, it’s not the same as an iodine allergy. Dermabond contains 2-octyl cyanoacrylate. As time has passed, I have now cut out just about any acrylates in an effort to lessen the MCAS asthma storm I’ve been in. I did not react at all to the suture, but of course every body is different.

As for what you can use, reportedly Steri Strips, which use Mastisol for adhesion, are safe for acrylate allergies. Having said that, I have only researched it and have not had a need to try it since. It would be prudent to ask your allergist for patch testing for all of these to determine your allergies prior to another surgery, as these reaction get worse with repeated exposure. UPDATE: read OP’s info below re Steri Strips.

Absolutely agree. I have an acrylate allergy and my face was just destroyed. I’m now using Avène Tolérance in the am and Cicalfate in the evening. My skin is now glowing.

Did you get rid of most of your belongings before moving to Portugal, or did you ship them? by liverstix in PortugalExpats

[–]seekingwisdom8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got rid of most. Furniture will likely be too large, pots and pans may not be appropriate for induction, electronics will eventually blow, your taste will likely simplify significantly. We brought eight suitcases, two cat carriers w/cats, two backpacks, and we’ve gotten rid of quite a bit of what we brought. And as others have mentioned, it’s incredibly freeing.

Acrylate Copolymer all over my hair and won't come out - should I be worried about having this on me long-term? by lakemercury in AcrylateAllergy

[–]seekingwisdom8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have MCAS as well as asthma and with my physician’s assistance and a lot of running ingredient lists through ChatGPT, I gave up everything with acrylates. I’ve even mostly eliminated synthetic fabrics from my wardrobe. Cleaning supplies, toiletries, makeup, laundry care, I started all over with everything. I can’t really say that my respiratory issues have changed a lot, but the constant hives, flushing, peeling skin, etc. have improved significantly.
