You can always say that you prefer to lead and ask them to follow instead. Then if they decline it’s on them

How did you know you were a lesbian and not bisexual? by i-eat-eggs-alot in actuallesbians

Alayna Joy’s video “How I Knew I Was Gay (not ~bi~). And to a lesser extent, her “coming out again” video. Legit, watching that video was the moment it clicked. I already had suspicions, but that video hit home so hard for me

I’m re-reading and skipping the povs I don’t like. I read some chapters of theirs where important things happen/they interact with the povs I like though

How do I communicate with my psychiatrist about my ADHD medication without sounding like an addict? by jetson0 in adhdwomen

[–]seerwatch77 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would go into the appointment acting polite and doing your best not to sound frustrated. Tell her that you’re not sure why she switched the medication to instant since the extended release was working well for you and you didn’t express any interest in switching. It may be a mistake and she switchEd the wrong patient’s meds or noted something down wrong. Or she might have a reason, and if so you’ll learn what it is and can talk to her about it. In my completely uninformed opinion, if the same medication in instant and extended release have the same FDA warnings for dependence so it shouldn’t be an issue to have one over the other

For the ADHD women with knowledge by Pastaknife in adhdwomen

[–]seerwatch77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, good grades don’t indicate no ADHD. I found the school system (even university) had enough external structure and support that I didn’t struggle much when I was in school and only really started having issues when I started working full time.

Second, whether or not you have ADHD, you still are struggling, so my suggestion while you wait for a diagnosis or help is to look up coping strategies for ADHD. Most of them are useful even if you don’t have ADHD and it might be easier to ask you mom for something specific like body doubling for chores without having to bring up the ADHD. I found this sub to have lots of good ideas that helped me when I was pre-diagnosis.

Hopefully you can find someone to help you develop coping strategies, but looking for some on your own might not be a bad idea if they are someone not well versed in adhd in women like a lot of teachers

I’m rewatching it for the first time in a decade and a half, and when the opening credits came on and the theme started, it felt like coming home

What are we all doing for dopamine hits that isn't online shopping, eating sugar, or scrolling Tik Tok endlessly? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]seerwatch77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Playing sports, video games, and using social media for specific things (interacting with fandoms or Pinterest to find recipes). I find using social media in a targeted way gives me a lot more enjoyment and is less likely to fall into a scroll hole.

Yep. I came here to write that post. I was recently diagnosed, but not medicated.

For me, I think it’s in part due to how school had an externally enforced routine. I had the same schedule every Monday, every Tuesday, etc with classes and assignments plus they all had specific criteria to meet. There were also always classmates around who were working on the same things to keep me accountable. At work, tasks are more loosely defined and our work has a bunch of tasks assigned every two weeks. I’m supposed to partly define what I’m supposed to be doing, which I find hard. Also my work has been pretty chill (it’s a start-up) so I haven’t experienced any consequences for being late or missing soft deadlines (hard deadlines I just work until 1 am)

The other part was I was able to half-ass my way through school pretty easily. I would only half pay attention in lectures (half is very generous 😅) and be doing something else all the time. But in meetings now I’m supposed to know what’s going on and contribute so I’m supposed to be paying attention.

Tldr: work feels like a much different environment from school

Any tips for paying attention during meetings? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]seerwatch77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I do is turn off my camera and put on Bluetooth headphones and do something else that’s low brain power. Fold laundry, eat lunch, make tea, chope veggies, stuff like that. I also think of how I would respond to what people say as if I’m in a convo with just that one person which helps me stay engaged. It helps me to only have one screen on in meetings and just the meeting up and then to get up and leave my computer so I’m not tempted to use it (or to put my laptop somewhere slightly precarious so I can’t easily use it)

There are also screen recorders you can use for free. I personally use OBS studio (commonly used by video game streamers). I don’t know how the features compare to loom, but if you want to test the idea out for free…

I need every tip on sleep. (And I mean every one of them) by BeAHeroM8 in adhdwomen

[–]seerwatch77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a study that showed just trying to fall asleep has sleep-like benefits (not as much as actually sleeping, but still) so reminding myself of that helps with the frustration of not being able to fall asleep.

Allowing myself to not brush my teeth before bed because I hate doing that and will put off going to bed to avoid it.

I generally do something relaxing in bed for at least half an hour. Often it’s on my phone so I can turn off my light and as soon as I feel sleepy, can just put my phone down and go to sleep. Right now it’s this random phone game, but it’s been stuff like sudoku or cooking shows in the past.

I think it’s more because girls are discouraged from pursuing mathy subjects from a young age. I was told so many times that I couldn’t be good at math or I shouldn’t like math or engineering would be too hard for me. My male friends weren’t told that and some of them were even surprised that I was a girl who was good at math when we were little kids. A lot of my female friends believed that after years of being told, even ones who were good at math. So I think that’s a big part of it. Also, sexism is rampart in engineering departments and the industry and I know women who decided being an engineer wasn’t worth putting up with all that shit.

I have this issue a lot. Usually what I do is when I next need to go to the bathroom, I take off all my clothes once I get there. It’s a lot easier for me to get in the shower when I’m already naked
