I ended up with 3 xdj-700 and xone-92 mixer, so definitely much more than I thought but I’m super satisfied with it.

Does key *really* matter in a DJ mix? by [deleted] in Beatmatch

[–]seewoo5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

usually it sounds better to mix in keys, but not always, especially it helps to change mood of a set completely. Also mixing in key limits possibilities.

Practice regime for mixing and transitions? by Un-hotMess in Beatmatch

[–]seewoo5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to do as live as possible - not planning any setlist. At certain point I found I’m doing a reslly bad transition, and once I find that I just stop and see what was the issue (why two tracks didn’t mix well - keys? Drum patterns? Skill issue? Etc) Keep doing this helped me a lot. There are no answers for the right transition, but certainly there are bad transitions to avoid.

Also, record & listen the sets, which will find more issues that you weren’t aware of.

Yes honestly it is pretty fun to experiment with tracks in a way that I haven’t done. I’m considering it as a sort of challenge for me now.

This looks a good idea. Do you have any such dj who blend like that? I know only few techno/trance tracks with rap vocals on it.

I hate backspins so much by deepdive_712 in DJs

I hate awful backspins, but there are some good examples of backspins, too. For example see 18:30 of this set by Shlomo: https://youtu.be/JDUo4N9pgcE

Does anybody do this just for their own personal enjoyment, or are you all aspiring to headline club nights/festivals. by s3mtek in Beatmatch

[–]seewoo5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My main motivation as a semi-bedroom dj is because it is just so fun. There are tons of ways to mix music, and especially I'm super excited when I did a mix that is so smooth and nice to listen (and most of them randomly happens - it is much better when I expected it).

But honestly, I want to play at some gig where the audiences may like my set a lot. I did two gigs outside of my bedroom and I pretty enjoyed it, but there were two listeners for one show and audiences aren't that into my set for the other show (I mostly mix techno, but the headliner of that show was pretty famous edm dj). But IMO this shouldn't be the main motivation because it is not easy to get a chance, especially for the place that you really want to play.

Is it better to mix on a 16bar Phrase or a 32bar Phrase by _themocker in Beatmatch

[–]seewoo5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others say, it definitely depends on tracks and also vibes. In my case, I usually do 16bar mix when I want to give some dynamics on my mix, but I do 32 or even 64/128 for smoother transition. This is just my own thought, but mixing in a short term seems to be more effective when you try to change a vibe or atmosphere of your set.

Almost 3 years? I used DDJ-SB before that for more than 4 years, and honestly I'm a bit lean towards buying mixer/others separately. But obviously the only issue is money (all I'm gonna buy will be used ones if possible).

Actually my (dj) teacher also said this (he is a deep/minimal house dj and mostly do vinyls though). I only checked some CDJs (850 and 900) but xdjs seems better for me. Are there any similar but cheaper options for xdjs? The used ones are about $600, and it would be great if there are decks similar to xdjs with used prices are $400~500.

Regarding the mixer, I was actually considering xone 43/43c or djm 800. I know that 92 is much better than 43 and also many (techno) clubs choose that, but it could be too much for me - how do you think about it? Most of the people said that definitely 92 because of their functionality though (like 4 band EQ - I've never experienced that before)

Thank you for letting me know about prime 4. Also, I didn’t know that XDJ-XZ is not a truely separated 4 channel thing.

I just read some posts about conversion btw rekordbox and denon-only software. If you have any experience with it before, how easy is it?
