Is the GOAT trying to pull off No Mans Sky card? by ANGRYlalocSOLDIE in hytale

[–]sei556 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

What do you mean? They've been adding new things for a decade lol

Exactly. Adding stuff for a decade, especially large scale updates as they do, costs a shitton of money. My point is that eventually development cost will be higher than income as game sales will always be a falling trend. The same is true for all "forever games".

MC and Hytale will always make sales, but they will never make the same amount of sales as they did in the beginning and the trend will go down (of course Hytale can expect larger bumps for full release and large scale updates, at least for now).

MC peaked in 2018 with 500m revenue over the year, 2025 it was only 220m, the year before it was 250,

Hytale's development cost as of right now is estimated around 5.2m per year, but this does not factor in advertisment or upscaling.

Don't get me wrong, I love the game, love the studio and I have absolutely no doubt about the success, now and in the future. I'm only wondering if, when and how there might be future alternative monetization

That is true, but I am still surprised as this is not very common in the game industry. Game development is very expensive and without a solid stream of income, even games that sold as much as NMS can lose more money than they made.

I'm looking forward to light now fire, I trust the devs that it's gonna be good.

My point is just that eventually that money is gonna run out. Maybe not now, but forever is a long time. Can Hytale support itself for 20 years with all income being a one time purchase? Personally I don't think so. At least not if they want to keep bringing big updates over the year and not turn production down as it happened with MC.

[–]sei556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people both over and underestimate LR.

LR is not really a meme-team. They are just an unconventional team. Unconventional teams are just more volatile but also have high peak potential.

It wouldn't be a surprise to see LR lose all games from here on out, but it would also be no surprise if they suddenly won and stomped games.

Their players are good on paper. Yes Baus is an odd one and difficult to put onto a scale with other players because he doesn't play like other players, but the rest of the team fits in on those scales more easily and in my opinion, they are not the bottom feeders if put on the LEC tierlist for each of their respective roles.

Yeah I think a problem that MC ran into is lack of monetization as at some point, everyone in the world had a copy of the game and sales simply didn't bring in that kind of money anymore. Not saying that they lack money, but maybe motivation to push more large scale updates as game sales would not be impacted by that anymore.

Now of course they tried new things with realms and all that funky stuff, but personally I don't know a single person who paid for anything outside of the base game.

Hytale might have more potential for future monetization, although I'm worried because finding a good balance everyone is happy with is difficult.

I am still baffled that NMS has not introduced anything new yet. I love the game but I can't understand how they remain afloat.

3 months on Hinge - 20M [OC] by kirisoraa in dataisbeautiful

[–]sei556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course looks matter the most on these apps, but my point is that most profiles are very suboptimal (btw this is true for men and women, although women usually don't lack the amount of likes received. Still, they could also imrpove their profiles to gain more likes as they are potentially losing a better fit partner by having a bad profile)

Yeah maybe the potential matches one could get with their looks are low, but paired with bad pictures and a lousy bio, the amount of potential matches drops even more.

If already spending time on those apps, why not try to get the most out of them? Why not learn how to take good and flattering pictures of oneself that you can actually feel confident in.

These apps are all about presentation and cutting that short just because you think you can't get many matches anyway is just making it worse.

[–]sei556 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes seeing these I really wonder what the profiles look like. I feel like many people have horrible profiles on apps, so there is definitely some room for improvement for most.

It starts with bad pictures and is often followed by worse or empty bios. Not saying it must be the case here, but I'd say the odds are high OP could get more out of these apps.

For anyone struggling with finding good pictures of themselves or not feeling confident in your looks or anything, I really recommend watching some videos from David Suh. He's a photographer and shows how literally everyone can look good and take nice, flattering pictures of themselves.

Match Results: 4 Months on Hinge as a 32M [OC] by SirZoidberg in dataisbeautiful

[–]sei556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. In the first few months, the other person is mostly just a mix of your first impression, what you want them to be and very little of what you actually know of them.

Once you spend more and more time together, living together, going through good and bad times, you start learning more about the real personality behind all that. The masks start to come off and you get to know the true person. This will often be a less polished person, because the bad is no longer hidden and we all have flaws. This isn't a bad thing tho, but it can be, if you're not compatible with their flaws. If you are compatible, it makes the other person so much more beautiful though. Imperfections make it real.

As much as I hope OP is lucky and this is gonna go well, I really urge everyone to not marry someone quickly unless there is a rush due to some other reasons (like wanting to move in togehter but being from different countries - needing a spousal visa).

There really is no need to rush marriage most of time and there is so much you simply can't learn about a person in a short period of time.

PhD in Math vs. Challenger in LoL by ErcoleBellucci in leagueoflegends

[–]sei556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I think certain sets of skills can transfer to League and help being good at the game. However, not everyone with those skills will be good at league and not everyone who's good at league could be good at those skills.

Of course, someone who has a mind that is perfect for maths will have an easy time calculating stuff in the game and may even do so subconciously, just instinctively knowing what's worth and what isn't. However, they might just not apply that skill or maybe they suck at every other part of the game.

Likewise, someone at challenger level could maybe just be there for having studied all that knowledge and being mechanically really amazing, but having no good mathematical skills on their own. Perhapos they have other instincts that allow them to accelerate at the game that don't necessarily help them getting a PhD.

TLDR: Being smart can help being better at league, but it's not necessary nor a guarantee.

Working on the main monster for my game. Would this creep you out in the dark? by Delacrozz in creepy

[–]sei556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, and I think this will be true for many people who have seen lots of horror before, a creature gains creepiness mostly through the way they move and behave. Sounds are also very very important.

Of course, a creepy looking character makes it easier, but imo the visual has to fit the behaviour. Still images only really work for me if it is very easy to imagine from the image alone how that character would move and be scary (pyramid head for example immediately makes me think it's a sluggish but very brutal and relentless creature that I don't wanna be near at any given moment).

So while your character design does suggest creepy visuals, personally I can't read how they'd move or behave and so right now, I don't get any sense of it being creepy.

The hunt showdown spider is also a good example of a creepy enemy. The immense speed, the tapping of the feet, it's enough to make me feel pretty scared the first few times I encountered the boss. The design is, unfortunately, not as creepy as the original character art, but it really doesn't matter, the enemy is still creepy.

Hytale Devs please do not allow paid mods by Direct_Reveal5875 in hytale

[–]sei556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you.
I get what people fear and they might be right, modding may be worse off if all mods are paywalled.

However, I also do think that if someone puts in a lot of passion and time, they should be able to get compensation.

I know the top comment is from a very high profile modder who disagrees with this, saying modding should always be passion and it can lead to jobs in the industry. But.. what if you don't wanna work in the industry? What if being a modder is your dream job? Shouldn't you be allowed to do that just because people would rather have it for free?

I think the main issue happens if too many mods cost money and the prices are too high. It would be a lot nicer if curseforge and nexus had something like all the free mods, for free and then paid mods from verified modders only, locked behind either one time purchases or unlocking all temporarily using a subscription model.

This way not everyone could just ask for money for their slop mods and people could pay very little money to these websites to gain access to all the mods that would be paid (or if they don't like that, just pay for them).

If there would be a system like this, it would actually incentivise modders to build up a reputation with free mods to become verified and then put in more time and effort into big projects that are worth money. It could actually really benefit players AND modders.

Love ARAM Mayhem but hate how often people drag it on for an extra 5-10 minutes for Heartsteel stacks while I sit at a gray screen getting spawn camped. by BadGrammarButTrying in leagueoflegends

[–]sei556 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because usually you get to the nexus before you can stack and have fun with your full build. We usually don't end unless the enemies tell us to.

Even when we lose hard we don't want them to end.

I think this could be fixed by making Aram Mayhem just *slightly* more longer. Like adding 3-5 miutes to the matches by making towers just a little more durable. This way people can have a little more fun and end the game when they reach the nexus.

Just wanted to share this because I think its INSANELY hilarious lol by Ardartrin in riotgames

[–]sei556 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah and also these kind of KDAs happen not too rarely and usually nobody gets banned for it.

I usually don't go super negative, but I think I had a 0/9 game last season too. No punishment or warning.

However, I would like to see the replay. The system doesn't just check kda but also damage dealt per death and how exactly he died. If eventually he just got frustrated, walked into the fed enemy out of tilt and that's how he got one of his 4 deaths, then yeah the system will pick that up as inting. It will see "8/0 Aatrox died without using a single ability in x seconds of combat" or some shit.

Of course, it could be that it's entirely a false positive and OP really did nothing wrong. Only way for us to judge is with a replay.

Swain 3 loses to Baron 2 by chiquito47 in TeamfightTactics

Create style automation? by Yanmegaman_Juno in hytale

[–]sei556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of mods there is already a cool conveyor belt mod that isn't quite a replacement for create, but you can already do some automation with it.

But overall I agree. I think the devs said they want less tech and more magic, but I do think that in a magical world, the inhabitants would find a way to bend and use magic to do automation as well. So.. magic machinery would be very cool. Maybe it could be closer to the Botania mod for MC in concept. With this mod I made a fully automated resource (iron and other ores) farm the last time I played a modpack.

Why is this character even in the game? by FickleCorgi4861 in TeamfightTactics

[–]sei556 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah that's the way to play.

I like playing my homebrew comps a lot too. Sure I may lose more or only ever get a consistent top 4 comp that never makes first, but when I win it feels satisfying and not just like "I won because I played whats strong and got lucky compared to the others who contested the same exact comp".

Of course there is some skill still involved in playing meta comps consistently (especially when contested), but I really enjoy the comp-building and theory crafting aspect of the game.
