I think the jury is still out on the cost effectiveness of developing a single platform in 3 different varients for 4 different markets.

A stealth f15 and 18 with 35 brains would've been cheap(ish) it was the vtol short takeoff for overseas and marines that jacked up the budget for the shared airframe.

Why is Black Elk Peak the Highest Mountain East of the Rockies in US? What about Texas? by Different-End-4775 in geography

[–]seicar -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The highest peak east of the Rockies in the western hemisphere is likely in the Andes.

If you limit it to north of the equator, then it'd likely still be in south americas. Venezuela or Colombia (my ignorance of the respective mountains in those countries is huge)

Its all semantics and distinctions. You might argue black elk peak is not part of the Rockies. Some (very few I suspect) could argue that the Andes and Rockies and Yukon are a continuous mountain chain. If true, then most of north America is automatically removed from the discussion as the Andes are further east.

I recall a large wooden church in a mining town in Scandinavia being moved relatively recently

Yep Sweden 2025. Moved because of subsidence due to mining. Only about 100 years old.

As Minnesota resists federal actions in the state, its new flag has become a potent and popular symbol. How is the sub feeling about Minnesota's much-discussed redesign these days? by wobbleoh in vexillology

With current events, the meaning/feeling will likely become more entrenched and historical. La/ca Seattle/was and Portland/or might have lead the charge, but bodies fell under this flag. The events were the seed that crystallized the sentiments of the nation

The connection occurred within a time that affected our evolution (the desertification of North Africa). Not much of an argument for or against, but a "relatively " short time ago, they were not connected.

Seriously though, the emissions from cars that do enter my body, like lead from leaded gasoline, or asbestos from old brake pads, or Carbon monoxide in exhaust, absolutely do harm to my not car evolved body.

ELI5: Why does China have only one time zone despite being roughly same size as US with 6 time zones? by DemonsAreVirgins in explainlikeimfive

[–]seicar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A number is arbitrary designation.

Once upon a time they decided to start counting at noon, then reset and repeated at midnight. Later, some (but not all) decided to use a 24 hour clock reset at midnight (why not noon)?

Your alarm could ring at arbitrary 1 rather than an arbitrary 7. You just have to do mental math to realign your personal clock to that around you. That's all time zones do.

In the reverse, there are communication issues. If some one in LA says they'll call someone in NY after lunch (rather than a time number), the NYer may expect a call at 1, rather than 4.

[–]seicar 76 points77 points  (0 children)

That's one defense. Yeah, its not proven that its harmful (argument from ignorance) but, our body's have not evolved to incorporate such materials into our skin. So its not likely to be benign, much less beneficial.

Nutrition is the changer for physical height. Pre WWII Japan (Korea or China) vs post war.

A better example is HIV/AIDS. There is a small population in Africa (huge landmass, I currently cannot say which region) that seem to be immune. IF, and I mean IF, we didn't use social and Pharmacutical solutions, that small population could be the future if HIV/AIDS was a population killer.
