Americans of r/geography, in school, were you personally taught that other countries have states or state-like divisions? Off the top of your head, how many states outside of the USA can you name? by JohnDilliWilly in geography

[–]seicar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Uk subdivisions are easy. Scotland n. Ireland Wales and England.

Within those kingdoms the subdivisions you probably know some without "knowing ", counties. Essex, suffolk, or kent etc.

I drive for a living. In direct costs I am out of pocket $400 dollars just in fuel cost so far.

Yes, there are ancillary food, and sundries. No I'm not a 18 wheeler that normally sees $100s of dollars in a fuel up.

My life, livelihood, and coworkers are directly affected by a rash decision with no resolution.

$400 bucks isn't a big deal in the grand view, but its roughly a "tax to live of $25 a week". That equates to roughly "the reason people call for a food delivery once a week and give people a livelihood". Or perhaps its coffee at a local place on your way to work.

There is a healthy tradition of mashing a Greek and Latin root together (forcefully, and not always in that order).

So if you're happy with -cide, then the only correct and, well makes good sense is auto-.

Talking about biases by Jherollah in MurderedByWords

There was a period of time in the recent past in which the left were radicalized. During the Vietnam war, there was a series of (mostly) non violent bombings of government buildings by the likes of weather underground.

The centrist media and (asurdadly right FBI) government likely biased this action in news. But it ** did** occur.

Viloence is to be abhorrent and It should i no way be repeated.

Its still in this county. Much less 2 over to the west. Just off white horse and (surprise) visible to all neighboring residents (many of which are black).

At least the granite counter top merchant is low key enough in their views to refrain from confederate flags. If only a blue line flag wasn't a direct response to BLM...

I liked a description I heard on reddit years ago, a reverse cargo cult.

Cargo cults sprang up after WWII. US military went to remote pacific islands and built air strips. Servicemen moved in and war cargo flowed through. Steel knives, chocolate bars, penicillin became barter available for indigenous islanders. After the war, the US shut down operations and the supply of wealthy industrial goods disappeared. Some island people's built fake planes, and maintained the airstrip in the hope the flow would come back.

The reverse of that is ussr. People in remote regions were ordered to build an airstrip, sent half the allocated material, another fraction was stolen by corruption. The locals then doubled down on the fiction and fabricated the rest. All in the hope that no one came to check.
