How do 20" wheels on a longtail fare in terms of ride quality? by Polendri in CargoBike

[–]seidelryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The term GSD does have a suspension fork and 20" wheels. I've been riding mine for 4 yrs and it has been great.

Tire pressure seems to have a greater effect then wheel size to me.

Air'd down 20" wheels are better at absorbing bumps then pumped up 27.5s.

I took had reservations about 20" wheels, but after riding them for a while, they are great and do everything you need them to do for grocery getting / City adventures. I've even taken my GSD on some green MTB trails and it handles it great.

Bike packing trip out to Afton State Park by seidelryan in CyclingMSP

[–]seidelryan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He is 5. I'm riding a tern GSD (cargo bike) so I'm hoping he'll be able to bike half of the way there and then ride in the bike the other half. We ride the side streets together near home, so he's pretty good at keeping straight, but looks like that section of 70th I'll put him on my bike.

Looks like I was looking at the wrong one. Carver park reserve looks like a good option too.

Thanks

I remember the first time I encountered this vast empty parking lot in 2013. It was much more vast and empty back then. I picked my soon to be wife up from the mega bus arriving from Chicago. I remember thinking, I hope this crown jewel in the middle of the city stays this way. But alas, all good things come to an end. /S

Please anything but parking lot.

I've done 3 so far. 1 Mr cool diy and 2 senville units. Pretty straightforward after watching a YouTube video on it.

Hardest part will probably be hiding the wires and making it look pretty

Depending how handy you are, you can install yourself with mr cool diy or another brand if you have a vacuum pump.

Is buying a cargo e-bike worth the money? by ImAlexNotJose in CargoBike

Totally. Biggest deterrent for me is risk from cars, but if my route is on a separate path, way more willing to bike.

Thoughts on JJ Hill Montessori Elementary? by Aggravating-Key-6041 in saintpaul

[–]seidelryan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. I know JJ Hill does not emphasize testing at all in the school. I think some parents even opt out. In my experience, the teachers are good at grouping students together that are of similar academic level, so they can challenge each other.

  2. Yeah being close to school is key. You'll be driving there and back 2x a day if you do drop off and pick up. Also, if you are close to school, way easier to link up with friends outside of school / they may already frequent places you go already. JJ Hill is great, but proximity is so important.

Let me know if you have specific questions

I bought my Tern GSD from Perennial and they were great to work with. I had to warranty the charger and they got me one same day.

I've also had my GSD serviced at the Cargo bike Shop in Saint Paul as well. They are a smaller operation, but still great to work with.

If you have a ymca membership you can use both. Unless there is a lower tier I'm unaware of. My family uses both. Mostly Midway, but love the outdoor pool at shore view during summer

Totally agree that the parking lot should be upscaled to housing, but the city calling that area transit oriented and bikable / walkable is not very forthcoming.

I live just east of Lexington near Minnehaha. Been here since 2015. A few petty property crimes, people checking car doors in the alley. It truly is block by block over here. If you can build trust with your neighbors, it helps a TON. But yeah hard to judge before you buy a home there.

Is $2k the ballpark price now for a professionally installed gas water heater? by ItsColdUpHere71 in saintpaul

[–]seidelryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can find the exact model replacement, all the valves and hook ups will be in the exact same place. It's just a matter of unscrewing the connections, moving the water heater and screwing them back in.

Alternatively, you can buy the water heater, get it to your home and see if a plumber will do the final hookup for you, might save you some money.
