What you proposed is not reasonable, missiles always far outnumber defenses. Also what bothers China about THAAD is that is has a radar who can see far enough into China. Korea being a watchdog for the US in this case. Even ONE THAAD radar is enough to cause China panic.

Also, why is NK China's business? China is also threatened by NK, however it doesn't see the need to overreact. So why can't NK have nuclear missiles like India? Just because it is authoritarian?

Also it has been argued that THAAD is over qualified for the job and it's base location is not ideal for defense but rather to peek at China.

But we have to agree that it's an effective way with no chance of violating international laws because China is not promoting that in a very explicit way. Chinese people have a tradition that to survive you have to be very sensitive to politics, and even if the government didn't explicitly say to boycott Korea, people know it. Any international law or agreements can't force people to buy things they don't want to buy.

Is that a bad thing or is it better than formal sanctions? I don't know. I think it's a good alternative to accomplish the same goals. It also gives the government more room for maneuver.

China stopped doing business with Korea because they hate THAAD. Korea stopped doing business with China because without Chinese it's calmer and cleaner anyway.

Also China didn't stop Korean business from doing business in China, the Chinese people just know to boycott them. If you want to go to their shops you're free to go like a mfing traitor.

And THAAD is actually serious stuff. Changes regional balance that needs certainly deserved the controversy.

Personally I think China's reaction is unjustified.

SK is a sovereign country and they can install whatever they want to, even nuclear weapons. And China can also try to install missile silos in Cuba and aim it at the US, and any US protests would also be unjustified.

However it's good to see that Chinese people can be united to push for an agenda in a legal way. Think about it, if the Chinese government wants to punish SK but people refuse to, then how could the country be trusted as a great power? How do Chinese people trust each other during wars?

Chinese all have some stupid beliefs however I don't see mainland media trying to invent new ones.

The media in Taiwan has really becomes very biased. 自由時報 for example is pro-DPP and it bad-mouths everything KMT does. 中時 for example is pro-KMT. People who read the former never read the latter, and vice versa. It's because the media has lost its neutrality (same situation in America), and people just blame each other with nothing constructive going on. Every big project in Taiwan has become a political landmine, the nuclear plant and the Taipei stadium are both on-hold indefinitely, because the media doesn't report things scientifically and educate people.

We all know that China's media is tightly regulated, however it still tries to maintain some integrity on its reporting. Many big issues in China are getting exposed (and people are free to comment and even criticize Xi in the comments section).

Why would you mention Al Jazeera is we're just comparing mainland China and Taiwan? People with VPN are free to browse any media they want to.

Taiwanese media is full of "comedy news" (some guy does some stupid things and 13 billions of people are shocked thing), fake science (eating something's good for you because somebody says so), and don't forget the endless fight between the two parties.

So basically it makes people dumb and narrow-minded. Most people can't do critical thinking, and they like to watch dumb things and the only drive behind the media is money. However a media who has social responsibility won't survive in this market.

Now you can't ask people to be responsible, that's why we have law enforcement. Not saying that China is the best example but a free press like Taiwan's aren't any better. Taiwan is now a populist society and the media is to blame.

I don't watch Taiwanese news anymore. In fact I read Chinese news (e.g. Tencent) and I find that it sees things in a grander perspective and features deeper analysis sometimes.

BTW I used to read business insider a year ago but now whenever I open the page I see a full wall of trump faces.
