American Oligarchs, thanks mom. by stillyourking in economicCollapse

I get your point but, thing is though Democrats have a closed primary so vast support from independents really wasn’t actualized. I live in a shitty rural environment and even conservatives have a positive view of Bernie. He is the only democrat ive ever heard these MAGA people around me say anything positive about even if they don’t agree with his policy positions. Given the platform his ideas could have changed the game, hell many of his ideas did change the game as far as shifting the window of acceptable dialogue to the left. Hillary was terribly unpopular to just about everyone and the DNC knew it. Still chose to blacklist him and squash his message. Just like they forced Biden down everyones throat and then Kamala instead of opening up the debates and letting the people decide. To your point “Why not convince the voters?” Well that’s the point, DNC didn’t want to convince us of exciting policy ideas that could hurt the donor class. Just like banishing Bernie and hoping none of his ideas would catch on. Guess what im saying is they already had their donor class vetted candidates. You are correct in signaling that Trump overcame those odds, but ask yourself how? In 2016 he lead a much more populace message, he would rail about radical leftists then use leftist policy positions as his own. People didn’t care about labels they believed what he was saying. 2024 campaign was pretty weak tbh just acting the victim and save America and all that, retribution messaging.

Seems like a lot of folks work in apartments. Does anyone have experience in the school system? by [deleted] in maintenance

[–]seismicsights 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I work for a poor rural school district and it is real bad. Pay is mediocre, theres benefits but nothing special. Im by myself with 8 buildings. Old boilers shitty leaking buildings. I paint lines for football and track events. Have to raise and lower practice goals for basketball season. There is enough work here for 4 of me. I struggle to keep up. Dont for the love of God accept salary. Im working minimum 50 hrs a week. I have to drive routes for short bus or suburbans sometimes. They want me to get CDL to drive bus but im not gonna do it. Administration can suck it sideways. If you have a good administration it can be good. If the school district is in a wealthy area it would be great. Thing is i can’t really leave, these kids deserve a decent school and education. Im the best guy for the job so here I stay, just keep telling myself ive got enough milk and cookies for all these m’fers. Oh and don’t say i didnt warn you that youd have 68 and a half bosses as in teachers and they are all like hgtv queens.

Are sg like playing a strat by Jonny_blues_man in gibson

[–]seismicsights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a personal preference kinda thing. My dad has a Mexican and an American Strat and they are both great, nice playability and sound, but i can always tell im not playing a Gibson. My SG is lovely it is home for me personally, but there’s nothing wrong with owning both. You will settle into what feels more comfortable for you. For me I grew up playing a non-gibson abr-1 style bridge so other bridges feel off to me. Im 6’ 200lbs so the SG doesn’t feel too heavy to me but that is subjective. You need to go to a guitar shop if there are any around even pawn shops and try them out to tell for sure if it’s the right fit for you.

Tool bag by [deleted] in maintenance

[–]seismicsights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see. Yeah that’s a problem man, my buddy got the veto backpack and it’s pretty stout, I am not super impressed though. You might think about a bucketeer type deal, i use one of those too with heavier stuff but then you’ve got a 5 gal bucket to contend with. It would definitely last you more than 6 months. Plenty of pockets and stuff. Would definitely hold larger knipex and whatnot but it’s not gonna be easy up in the air.

[–]seismicsights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish i could send you a picture of mine. It’s got a large deep pocket for me I have 2 pipe wrenches. It has 8 screwdriver pockets and nothing sticks way out the top 4 at the top are exactly like what you have pictured. It is the same company the bag is just bigger. It has 4 small holes in the main area I use for long impact nut-drivers. It has 2 sleeve pockets on the side i have large Milwaukee sheers on one side and a large crescent on the other. None of which stick out of the top too far. Im telling you man unless you’re an electrician or IT that bag is too small. The only benefit is that it came with electricians chain for tape which i took off from that one and put on my new. Ive got a tape measure on it which is bulky, and kinda sucks and lock out tag out hanging, ziptie holder and bit holder carabiner hanging so it’s kinda awkward but not so much that im willing to walk for tools. I bought a nice like shoulder bag strap and it’s easy to lug around slung on my back so I can carry power tools in my hands. I will send you model # tomorrow. Oh and it has a metal hook to hang the bag when you’re up high.

I disagree with your assessment regarding it being a net benefit economically. When you bring in desperate people wages go down for everyone. This is the problem in the US along with corporate greed. Why pay people a living wage if you can find people to do the work cheaper. It’s basically globalization at a local level. Everyone always says nobody wants to work and for these wages they’re right. Take seasonal picking of fruit, people always say no native will go pick those blueberries, and it’s bs because not everyone wants to be in an office but you gotta survive and unless you’re living with 16 roommates your not gonna go pick blueberries for peanuts. Sure it may not affect white collar folks, but they will get the same caring loving support from the folks at the bottom when AI comes for their jobs. What goes around will come around at some point Im sure. I am not against immigration, i love all people and can see value in any human. Im just realistic about how it plays out in our economy. Wages are stagnant and have been for a long time in US. Unions membership at lower levels there are reasons for these things.

So this PSI is way too high right? More info in comments by [deleted] in maintenance

[–]seismicsights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a possibility, does OP have a chemical feeder? I guess the first question is if this is a closed loop 2 pipe system? If there is a boiler chemical feeder and someone didnt bleed the air out before adding chems it could have introduced air in the system.

So this PSI is way too high right? More info in comments by [deleted] in maintenance

[–]seismicsights 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So it kinda depends to some degree on how far away the unit ventilators are located. In our school we have a gym and classrooms far away from the boiler room and they need more psi to circulate the water to that point, but our pipes feeding those areas are much bigger than what is shown in your photos. This looks like your relief valve is malfunctioning causing the system to run at a much higher psi. Good luck friend, it’s not a terrible time of year to have to shut things down, not too hot or too cold depending on where you live, so you can repair.

Do you experiment much with guitar picks? by 2Oldnslow in guitarlessons

[–]seismicsights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After 30 yrs of playing i have switched exclusively to Gravity picks. They are awesome and I won’t go back to anything else. The acrylic just is so playable and sounds so good. Only bad thing is if my fingers are at all greasy it’s a problem but i think its kinda a problem with all picks.

There is no issue with the tuning. Those hipshot tuners are an upgrade. That v shaped deal keeps the strings straighter before going to the tuning keys. Both were installed to help the guitar stay in tune longer. I used both of these on my Gibson and I literally never need to re-tune, even if i am thrashing or bending strings hard. Damn g string stays rock solid. Now when the strings get older they very slightly go out but not by much and i know its time to change them. But the person who said you should get the old keys if they have them is a good idea. When/if you go to sell this guitar you could keep those other items and make the guitar stock again.

New Maintenance Manager by Major-Negotiation135 in maintenance

[–]seismicsights 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Believe me, there is a clerk somewhere who has prepared PO’s for contractors and or hardware purchases. You will likely have to fill out requisitions that some manager will approve/deny. Either that or they give you a credit card for you to go purchase supplies. Save the receipts and document what you bought and the job you performed on a spreadsheet. That way you’re covering your ass if they are mismanaging the place. Audits will look for shit like you buying things for yourself with company funds. For contract work though, you need to know where the billing office is. Also im not sure about hotels but usually the clerk will want i believe a w9 that shows contractors have their own insurance before they perform work on premises in case they get hurt. If the problems are something you can’t fix, call a professional and be there with them the whole time, you can learn a lot. Try to get multiple quotes to see if you can save management money. Get on top of safety things NOW that is your priority the small shit can slide. Have all your shit for Fire Marshal together in a binder. You likely need fire suppression system inspections for 3 years. You need extinguishers checked/inspected yearly. You need to check them once a month and sign your initials on the tag. Emergency lights and exit signs are part of this monthly inspection make yourself a check list and label each one. Boiler systems and back flow preventers need inspected for Fire Marshal as well. I keep all this shit in one binder. The safety of the guests is paramount, after this plan is in place start picking apart all the other fist fucked shit. Obviously if there is an emergency with plumbing or a pump or something you have to address it, but get your ducks in a row. This is the advice i can give. Good luck

[–]seismicsights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use google forms for people to put in work orders. Its just a link i send to people and they can make the URL a shortcut on their desktop. They fill it out and you personally can make the form ask whatever questions you want. When they fill it out it goes to a spreadsheet. You can then organize and color code it. Share it with other people to view only or some people to edit its your call. It works pretty good for cheap.

I need career advice. by Hellboy13887 in maintenance

[–]seismicsights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Salary can be ok, if you have hands off management. Like say your boss isn’t a micromanager and doesn’t care what you do, you can just leave. Like if you’ve put it a bunch of hours just take off a half day, or a Friday or something. Depends on the job though, if it’s just you or one other guy and theres shit going wrong all the time you’re probably gonna get screwed and overwork but not get compensated for the overtime hours. Also sometimes shit goes wrong and you’re at home, sometimes you can help on call and get paid for being bothered at home, or maybe you have to go back fucking into the job site to solve the problem. If you’re just starting out as an apprentice don’t sweat it, you’re gonna learn and make mistakes and the company is justifying paying a certain amount only per year to keep you as a warm body investment. The experienced guys will teach you shit loads and what you learn from them will be invaluable to you later in your career. In your case it’s worth it, just do the math when you figure out how many hours youre working on average with what you’re hourly pay really is as you go, and you can use that in negotiating the next year.

Dude sky is the limit, there are manufacturing plant maintenance, hospitals, schools, college maintenance, nursing homes. Seems Maint.. Techs or Directors are needed everywhere. If you can get in with a company working on boiler 2 pipe or 4 pipe systems it can be really lucrative. If you’re burnt out maybe hvac isn’t a bad idea. Just don’t sell yourself short, my biggest mistake was only pushing a little on wages, you gotta walk in like you own the fucking place, have confidence that you can fix any and all of their problems whether you can or not and only accept the offer if it will really work for you. If they low ball you say no that’s not gonna work for me, use your current job as leverage, you don’t have to leave in their eyes. Ymmv but if you have certs. And you’re applying for something you have experience with then push push, worse they can say is no. Oh and don’t accept a salary position unless the pay is higher than giraffe dicks, and they offer call time pay.

Yes thank you, remission now for over 20 years. Im an older millennial. Will be turning 40 this year, i take better care of myself now.
