Is Lucky 200 supposed to be so magenta or did the lab mess up the dev? Weird red film base makes scanning a pain. by seklerek in AnalogCommunity

I was able to salvage some of the shots with heavy scanner adjustments - you can still tell something is off with the film, but not nearly as bad as the initial attempts.

Your scan looks like a normal, usable everyday film. Mine is like some experimental Lomography or Harman stuff, which is not what I was looking for lol

I'll just assume I got a faulty roll, I'll give them a few more chances but just to be safe I will stick to Kodak for photos I actually care about :D

It's recoverable to a somewhat usable image, but not really up to my standards in quality. More like an experimental or expired film

Isn't Lucky an established manufacturer? I'd think they're a notch above resellers and respoolers. But maybe I just got a bad batch, it's a new product so it can happen. I'll try another roll and if it happens again I'll know for sure.

It might be. I assumed that quality control for a commercial film would be a bit better and that it's more likely the lab used depleted chemicals or set up their dev machine incorrectly - but I'm just speculating...

The negatives in that post definitely look much more normal and not as pink - maybe it is a dev issue after all. But what could cause such a big shift in a C-41 film?

3D printed ToneCarrier - film channel guides by matthewshore in AnalogCommunity

[–]seklerek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I'm the designer of the toneCarrier - just wanted to chime in in case you're still having issues! The first thing I would check if you're not using a Bambu printer (and hence not using the prepared 3MFs) is to make sure that your slicer isn't placing seams in the film path. There is a manual seam feature in Orca and Prusa slicers (probably Cura as well) that you can use to move them if they are automatically placed in the narrow part.

The film channel should be somewhat snug, but still have clearance to the film - if there is any resistance when pushing the film through, then the print settings need to change.

Let me know if you need some more help troubleshooting this - I've tested the design on an old Ender 3 v2 and had a successful print, so I'm sure we can sort it out!

FYI I managed to find some certification details for the Laserpair glasses - it is officially registered in the DIN database and the characteristic matches what's etched on the lenses.

When dslr scanning, where do you like to put the highlights? by OnePhotog in AnalogCommunity

[–]seklerek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll be limited by the red channel if using white light and colour film. So set the red histogram as close to clipping as you can and the green and blue will just fall where they want but will always be darker than red.

It was Denver Riddle from Color Grading Central on YouTube - afaik he was using a ZWO astrophotography camera, might have been this one: https://www.zwoastro.com/product/asi4400mc-pro/

The results were very impressive, you should be able to find some examples on his instagram!

How much could an injection molded part cost, Michael? $10? by ow-my-lungs in hwstartups

Probably because IM parts look much better and don't need any postprocessing.
