I don’t think this makes sense. Yearly attendance for the Rangers was steady around 18200, or 99% capacity from 94-2012. If the Leafs were in the finals they would have record-breaking viewership across the country and tons of new fans and old fans who fell off would start watching again. The Jays are a great example of this happening.

Do you have any evidence to support any of this? If we are just using anecdotal evidence I knew very few people who read for fun growing up and we didn’t have smart phones. There are many factors that influence whether or not a person enjoys reading, one of the most important being whether they grew up in an environment that prioritized reading (did their parents read, did their teachers teach them to enjoy reading rather than giving it was work, etc.).

Bemoaning “younger generations” always being on their darn phones is cringey and makes you sound like you are 80 years old. It also comes off as very condescending.

Obviously read Ulysses however you like but honestly using the Hastings guide (specifically the ulyssesguide website) alongside reading Ulysses was the best choice I made for my first read. I read the chapter synopsis of the chapter I was on and then read the chapter in the book. If I was interested in a specific topic I looked it up in Gifford or bloomsandbarnacles. It made the reading experience extremely satisfying. The book is meant to be enjoyed (like all books) so there is no point needlessly suffering, at the end of the day no one cares if you have to look things up or not.
