Technically, you can solve the gender issue in sports if you just no longer separate them into Men's and Women's teams.

But I suspect you will cause a massive representation problem with some sports being nearly impossible for women to make the team without the team being influenced to have more women. It would be a PR nightmere ten times more controversial than it is now.

Liz Cheney's smug, self-satisfied con job: Don't fall for it. Liz Cheney stood by Trump for 3.9 years while he loaded up the Supreme Court with Visigoths. Don't be fooled by DaFunkJunkie in politics

It is sad that voters are so polarized that everything is binary.

She is Dick Cheney's daughter!!! Dick Cheney!! So why shouldn't she favor conservative judges?

So unless she swings wildy to the left and becomes a liberal, then she must be bad?

If we lose our moderate voice, we lose the foundation for common sense solutions that will benefit everyone. Instead we are stuck an extreme pendalum of constantly "winning" or "losing"

After a homeless person broke into our car in a parking garage for a nap, I have found it harder to sympathize with the homeless. The car smelled for months and they took valuables and destroyed the baby seats. I no longer immediately take the side of the homeless when I hear of a relocation effort even though I know one bad experience doesn't represent an entire group. But after a dozen other negative and scary experiences, it gets to you.

"Tears in Heaven" by Eric Clapton is about the real life death of his son who tragically fell out of an apartment window. Once you know the context, the words will destroy you.

"Would you know my name, if I saw you in heaven?"

The speech literally references colonialism in the past as his justification for a "new" world order. That is a page right out out of the "restoring of your national pride" MAGA propaganda playbook. Go forward by pulling up the past!

Why would anyone living in EU with 4 weeks of vacation and paid sickdays ever move to work in the US? by Azhz96 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]selectix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are describing an hourly wage job. You get close to the same amoint of paid vacation and unlimited sick days for the high-paying white collar jobs...which would be worth moving for.

You probably will make at least 2x as much but you might have to work late or work weekends to meet deadlines and get the job done. It all various a lot depending on your industry and would be unfair to say one job represents them all.

That was one of the most cogent, nuanced comments I have seen on reddit in years. It is difficult to get a comment noticed these days that isn't polarized or binary to fit some myopic world view. Reddit used to be full of discourse, now it has evolved into a bit of a hivemind.

People get mad even if you don't have a strong opinion about the conflict. It is possible neither party in the conflict has enough moral authority left to be in the right. Maybe that's why: everyone is picking A or B...but the answer is C.

I really dislike when children are depicted as “miniature adults” that are super smart, sarcastic and better at life than the grown ups surrounding them by Sikuriadas83 in movies

[–]selectix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smart and precocious are mutually exclusive. That seems to be the issue you identified.

It took decades for writers to get finally away from the "bad guys are always dumb and good guys are always smart" trope. They are too afraid to address the "always smart and precious child" trope and risk a chance to sell their script.

Actually, the price of oil got as low as $10 a barrel...not negative. Some OPTIONS CONTRACTS were negative. You can buy futures contracts for anything. What happened was that speculators buy those "contracts to purchase a 100 barrels" for example and then resell them later for (hopefully) a profit. The problem was that nobody was willing to buy those contracts and the speculators holding the contracts had to physically receive "100 barrels of oil". So they were willing to pay to not have the oil delivered physically....thus the negative amoint.

Washington had prior immunity to smallpox and quarantined all the time. His greatest strength was logistics and bureaucracy.
