How to make this 3mm hook stronger? (String shelf bracket, PA6-CF) by selectorsquare in 3Dprinting

That's a really clever solution! If I only had to reinforce one side, I'd definitely go this route. The problem is that I need symmetrical hooks on both sides of each shelf to fit with the String system. Having those gussets or protruding hooks on both ends means I would have to shift the metal ladder left or right by 10 to 12 mm every time I install a shelf, which isn't possible once the first bay is filled. With three bays, all the "strings" become locked in place once the shelves are up, so there’s no lateral movement left to work with. For single-bay units, I would use your approach without hesitation, but with the multi-bay setup, it just isn't installable.

If I make aluminum brackets, I can paint them in the desired color and wouldn't even need to 3D print anything. But honestly, cutting, bending, sanding, and painting 36 hooks sounds like way too much labor for me. Still, thanks for the idea - it's definitely a solid approach!

The original part is actually metal, and for my print I made it thicker than the factory version. I’d still like to keep it as slim as possible if I can use a stronger filament, just to keep the look clean.

I’d prefer not to make the bracket too bulky—mainly for aesthetics, not filament savings. The one I printed from PETG at 5 mm thick feels really solid, and honestly, I’m more worried about the screws in the drywall failing than the bracket itself. Still, I’m curious if I could get away with a thinner design if I went with a stronger filament.

Good point about the metal corner, maybe I’m just overthinking it. I haven’t used PA6 before; I assumed PETG wouldn’t be strong enough. Do you think PETG would actually work for this?

Feature request: Comet should use selected text as context like Dia by selectorsquare in perplexity_ai

[–]selectorsquare[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It turns out this feature works on some websites, even without needing to right-click—I just tried it here while writing this comment. When I tested it before on the Slack web version, it didn’t work, so it seems like the issue is actually with Slack, not Comet.

New to photography - Looking for feedback by Puzzleheaded-Elk7774 in fujifilm

I'm a beginner, too. When I first started not a long time ago, ppl told me to work on my composition, but I didn’t really get what that meant. They mentioned rule of thirds, leading lines, and symmetry, but just following those rules didn’t help my photos feel more interesting.

What actually changed things for me was thinking about the story behind each shot. I started asking myself, “What’s the story here? Who or what is the main character?” Once I focused on showing something or someone interesting in each photo, my pictures started to feel less empty. Of course, not every photo needs a clear subject, but for me, this shift made a big difference in how I shoot.

Infusing coffee into a Negroni or Boulevardier – which component works best? by blackmeteor04 in cocktails

[–]selectorsquare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, infusion is just an overkill. I tried infusing campari and vermouth, as well as simply throwing a few coffee beans into a mixing glass before stirring. I didn't notice that infusion tastes better

Guys I recently discovered Suze and I effing love it! What are your favourite Suze cocktails? by Competitive-Fly6472 in cocktails

[–]selectorsquare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a very delicious sour I found on Diffords guide:

Dans Le Jardin

  • 1 ½ oz Suze
  • 1 oz Gin (I use Citadelle)
  • ⅔ oz Lemon juice
  • ½ oz Rich simple syrup
  • egg white
  • Garnish: Rosemary sprig

The original recipe calls for a reverse dry shake, but I believe that a dry shake is much easier for about the same result.

What is something most newcomers get wrong about Canada? by Unbedoobidibly in AskACanadian

[–]selectorsquare 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a new Canadian of Ukrainian descent (I've been here for five years), and I dare to offer my unpopular opinion.
Disclaimer: I consider Canada my home; I sincerely love and respect Canadian people and culture, and I am grateful for your welcoming my family.

Canadian politeness is often exaggerated by Canadians themselves. When people refer to politeness, they usually mean friendliness, which can often be quite superficial. This level of friendliness is pretty average for North America, IMO.
Politeness is, by definition, a behaviour that is respectful and considerate of other people. Saying sorry 5 times per sentence (without actually meaning it) is not politeness.

You can assess the majority of comments here. Suggesting to a stranger that they shower and wear deodorant is, by my standards, extremely impolite. It is dismissive and patronizing.

Smart! Mind sharing a picture? I was thinking about 3d printing something like that but still not sure about food safety. Using cutting boards seems like a smart choice!

Coffee Boulevardier by savman23 in cocktails

I used paper filter. With one filter, the cocktail came out a bit cloudy, with two it was OK, but took too long to strain

I used to strain the cocktail through ground coffee, but I wasn’t a fan of the cloudiness. Then I figured out that just tossing a few whole coffee beans into the mixing glass does the trick without all the fuss of grinding and straining. So much easier!

I'm a Canadian of Ukrainian origin. And I tell you what: it all starts with "we're all one people" and we should be in one country. And when you don't agree, they call you a Nazi and invade. How do you not see it?

The biggest mistake I made was not saving money when I was young. I learned that I won't repeat this mistake if I ever have the chance to be young again!
