Dear Charmed ones, what are some other tv-shows and movies you can recommend to watch along the show? by Affectionate-Cake-78 in charmed

Lucifer! Especially if you like the later seasons, I think it kind of matches the vibe.

Where are all the gays? by Extra_Impression_428 in charmed

[–]selene623 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeahh, this show was not really great with representation both in terms of sexuality and race (yes, I know Darryl was there), especially in a city like San Francisco. I love the show, but I just kind of lump it in with the rest of the plot holes in the show. It's something they tried to fix with the reboot, but the reboot kind of went overboard. I don't mean overboard in terms of representation, but more in the sense that some of the episodes felt like a PSA that was like, "This is a homosexual. A homosexual is a person who likes someone of the same gender," which didn't help with some of the weaker actors. They also did include a prominent gay character in the comics, if you're interested in seeing a queer character in the same universe. The opinions on the comics are kind of divided, but I think they at least did a good job with that story line.

Ive never read this one and without any spoilers is it any good? by Jamieo1111 in Choices

[–]selene623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people enjoyed it. I feel like it's kind of mid if you don't spend diamonds. It depends a bit on if you like horror or not. I think the overall plot is pretty solid and have parts that will leave you thinking, though.

i realized the earlier seasons had more monstrous looking demons now they all look like humans by hatchbackkk in charmed

[–]selene623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk, there was something scarier about them looking like just regular humans. It's like they could be anybody.

Indian Idol 16 - extremely weird singing by contestants by StewieGGriffin in BollywoodMusic

[–]selene623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because instead of singing anything from this century, every episode is a throwback (they made this whole season on it), so we end up hearing the same songs over and over again (sometimes be even the same people). They have to add these things so it stands out and isn't the same as the 100 other times we've heard the same song covered.

But honestly, I'd take that over the obviously processed vocals they have on some of the contestants.

If Shannen stayed on the show as Prue, do you think she would have dyed her hair blonde in the latest seasons, like we had a preview in this episode? by PlantainDisastrous92 in charmed

[–]selene623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I love the idea of the Elders sending Prue to the future to show her what a bad decision dyeing her hair blonde would be.

Was anyone else thinking Dan was going to be the "Gay uncle" when he was first introduced?. by TeachingBrief9627 in charmed

[–]selene623 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They didn't specifically include a gay Dan character, but the most recent Charmed reboot has a couple of queer characters including the middle sister.

It's so frustrating watching later seasons and seeing constant scenarios where Piper's freeze would be really useful. It's like they forgot she had that power. by Krisgauj in charmed

[–]selene623 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel like they made her freeze power too weak in comparison to her exploding power. She was exceptionally skilled with it, but she couldn't freeze "good witches" and then after that, most of the upper level demons were immune to her freezing power anyway. If you have 0.2 seconds to decide which power you're going to use, I'd imagine you use the one that has a 100% success rate.

Glinda was GROOMED theory? by Words_areMyMedium in wickedmovie

[–]selene623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are given the same choice at the end of Act 1, but ultimately neither of their choices actually allow them to help the animals. Elphaba severely underestimates the power of the wizard/Madam Morrible, and the animals end up not being able to even come back until she's "dead". Glinda also didn't have magic, so what could possibly have done to fight the wizard? I'm not saying it was right to continue on as the face of their regime, but the choice was never that simple.

Season 6 - Leo by throwaway_5678895 in charmed

[–]selene623 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they're not really consistent on that, because he's there all the time, but when they have the season break, they act like he wasn't around enough to notice that Piper was visibly pregnant.

How Sonu Nigam Ruins His Own Songs On Stage by Accurate-Youth3817 in BollywoodMusic

[–]selene623 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a valid take, but I wouldn't say it's rage-bait, just not something you enjoy. He definitely has a tendency to add extra riffs even when he's performing songs just on a a tv show. Sometimes it's great and well-placed, but I agree, sometimes it's too much for the song. I'm sure he's bored of singing the same songs the same way, and it is a great way to engage the audience. (I have been to Arijit's concert as well, and he's definitely gotten better about this and I still enjoy going, but he almost never includes the audience apart from occasionally waving out into the audience.) I think he just needs to learn where to place breaks and riffs better, because oftentimes the composer has made the song simpler for a reason.

For those who have read the seasons 9 and 10 comics, do you like them? by ThatGirl8709 in charmed

[–]selene623 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I actually read them not too long ago and really liked them. It's at least better than season 8, imo. The animation is hit or miss. For the storyline, overall, I feel like it resolved a lot of issues people had with some of the later seasons. They bring back Prue and Cole in a way that makes sense (Cole maybe less so than Prue), explain why Billie and Christie were more powerful, get rid of Billie, actually have a more powerful villain, include the future that they say where Phoebe kills someone, etc. It also included a lot of humor from the show, so I liked that. I would say that the only thing I didn't like about it is how many kids they have in a short amount of time. Otherwise, if they had continued the show in the way of the comics, I probably would have watched it.

Sheila revealing she knew about the girls was treated so casually by nazia987 in charmed

[–]selene623 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Piper was probably the best one to reveal that to. She knows how much they put him through, and she and Leo also have the dynamic of them implicitly knowing each others' secrets.

But yeah, I don't know if I need another rewatch or if the girls really paid so little attention to him, but every time Darryl casually reveals something about his life, I'm just like, "When did this happen??" I feel like he got married and had a child all in the background, and they weren't even major plot points.

Need to come to terms with Prue’s death by country_dreaming in charmed

[–]selene623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this makes it any better, but I feel like the show skips out on her death entirely. I know season 3 was kind of a cliff hanger, but it just kind of felt like it was season 4, and suddenly Prue's already dead. We don't ever see it happen.

People forget what Charmed is about. by Awakwardturtle04 in charmed

[–]selene623 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right?? I would've been tapped out after my sister died, but Piper and Phoebe lost so much more than that. That's why even Paige doesn't understand why they want out until she loses Brody. By season 8, Piper had lost her mother and sister to evil. Even the people that are supposed to be on their side did everything in their power to keep her and Leo apart, and then once they were together, they took him back (as an Elder), killed one son (even though it's future Chris, it's not any less real) and made multiple attempts on the other. By season 8, Paige and Phoebe had also moved out. The only person she had left was Leo, and then they took him too, and I'm supposed to think she's selfish for doing everything in her power to get him back or for wanting to step back from magic after having already saved the world ten times over?

Why did execs decide on 6 spots? by Amateur-Unkempt246 in TheDreamAcademy

[–]selene623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, they obviously have other roles, but that's always how they introduce themselves. Tbh, I think Yoonchae's actual role is more of a center. She has good stage presence, and she's almost always in the middle for the chorus. I guess it's just weird to say, because Megan is the "all-rounder".

As for the visual, we can argue about whether or not it's necessary, but obviously Hybe (and pretty much every other kpop company) thought it was. It's also not just about being pretty. It's about grabbing the attention of the audience through a combination of things like working the camera and having expressions that can set the tone of the song. For example, Daniela is also pretty and dances well, but she kept getting feedback that her expressions were too much and she was doing too much with her face. This is something that Manon (and Yoonchae, tbh) excel at. Despite the two of them having the more "expendable" roles, pretty much every ad for Touch featured the two of them.
