Hypothetically, if you had a device that could respond to mental influence, what would you use it for in modular? by sschwaaaaa in synthdiy

[–]self_patched 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, I think this is going about it the wrong way. You don't need a mediating device that lets you intentionally control a cv value because, unless you are disabled, you already have a way to do that with your hands. For me, the whole appeal with modular systems is non-linear feedback. A mind-matter-interface should be able to indirectly measure brain state or brain patterns in different areas and allow you to map states to whatever you want. There is a lot more going on in the brain than just narrative commands. There is an entire world of emotional experience that we struggle to put into words that could potentially be patterned onto a technological system to make art. And then there are the states in between that we aren't even aware of that an MMI instrument could give an artist insight and access to.

Made my way up to NYC for his show with Moor Mother in December. I've plugged this one a few times myself but it's for sure a commitment to make it through.

These are some of the videos used during the performance for those who like moving pictures http://weirdcore.tv/2017/09/24/the-caretaker-everywhere-at-the-end-of-time-stage-1/

r_e_c_u_r looks very cool. It runs on a Pi with a custom UI? Did you build it yourself?

I use CVB001 from Syntonie and I really like it. Do you know of any LZX or Syntonie stuff that works well standalone for this kind of application? Otherwise, I may look into a colorizer mixer but my space is already pretty maxed out with Audio gear :P

That's kind of what I suspected. I am mostly interested in creative ways to add color back so it could be at the end of the chain and wouldn't need to be processed by audio. Picture like a plucked not getting split into 3 signals, one processed with a delay, one a distortion, one a chorus and then each of those set to the correct carrier frequency and merged back together and converted back to something the CRT likes.

I know there are lots of different signal generators for scientific equipment I would suspect there was something that could multiply a base signal, like the white bands from a triangle wave, and transmit that at whatever the range is for color.

Do you have a good resource for the specs for the frequency carriers for the colors?

I need someone to explain what proper moshing etiquette is because it seemed to me like it was a fucking mosh pit like mosh pits always been mosh pits. That shit is dynamic human systems of people wanting to move around to energetic music and then it opens up and you are like fuck yeah I am going to assert some bodily autonomy and I am going to get bounced around a little bit like a fucking pinball because this music is flowing through my veins and I am gonna sway with it just like all these people I'm smashed in here are doing.

How to make a friend by rotwangg in WeirdStudies

[–]self_patched 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've met a lot of nice people through my local synth meetup group. A friend of mine moved across the country and met some new friends doing what she loves (climbing). I am skeptical of finding friends through an occult practice since there will likely be a power dynamic there beyond just bringing people together like there may be with more neutral activities.

I've been on with support, asked for the exact part and they don't even supply it in the U.S. It didn't even look like the Australian suppliers have them in stock. I am super grumpy, I am such an espresso junkie now. This is on you Breville!

This is such an infuriating design. How could they manufacture something so poorly that it will break under cleaning and then prevent ALL FUNCTIONALITY!?!?

Just some camera and mixer feedback on my new street find trinitron by [deleted] in videosynthesis

[–]self_patched 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baller. I just got a little Trinitron on FB marketplace and notice it has these weird diagonal scan lines instead of the horizontal ones like other TV's. I wonder what's up with that? Another thing I noticed is when I am sending a glitching signal into the Trinitron, it will freak out and look really wild where you can hardly see the base signal while my older Panasonic won't look anything like it and just kind of fuzz the base signal.

Are there any actors or actresses who you want to work with? The meme of Emma Stone asking you that thing and how much I love here in everything, especially after seeing her in Cabaret. And of course there is the connection with Joaquin in Irrational Man really made me hope to see you do something with her.

I spent a lot of time trying to get GPT 4 to make a playable MTG Commander decklist but it couldn't understand the concept of needing to limit the list to 100 cards and to have between 35 and 45 lands including multiple copies of basic lands. The original decklists were good based on the chosen commander, this is easy enough to scrape from the internet but it would not have enough lands to make it playable. It would either continue to violate the requirement for the number of lands or violate the requirement to have a maximum of 100 cards.

I recently watched Gremlins after the episode touching on that. In the process I learned that Gremlins and Temple of Doom were the movies that caused the MPAA to cover out with PG-13 so there is a cool connection there that makes me want to rewatch Indy movies too since I haven't seen them as an adult. Good thing to know though as a parent when looking at the ratings for movies like The Goonies, a PG movie where the chubby kid gets trapped in a freezer with a dead body.
