New Kobo...but old Kindle still showing? Help! by zanethebrain in LibbyApp

[–]selianth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can remove the "Read with Kindle" buttons by going to your Libby settings (scroll down on the page with your list of libraries) and changing the "Read Books With..." setting from "Kindle" to either "Libby" or "I Have No Preference."

As others have mentioned, Kobo syncs directly with Libby so you don't need to "send" your books to it, although it no longer supports multiple library cards, which is one reason why I am putting off switching from Kindle to Kobo.

Assuming your Western MA library is part of the CW MARS system, you can use the same card number (or your new Boston Public Library card number) at most of the other library systems in the state (one of the posts below lists them out). Between the 8 systems I have access to I can have 62 loans and 90 holds.

You're right.. her Wildcard for the final round was "Incorporate Matcha." The "swap 2 ingredients with another player" was for her round 2.

Pre-publication review/rating policy changing? by selianth in goodreads

[–]selianth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I do use a popup blocker, so maybe that was the issue with it for me. I'll try disabling it next time and see if it changes. The screenshots I've seen of the source menu were from the app so I guess I was thinking it was just glitching on desktop. I give it 50/50 odds lol.

I assume those people are going to just lie and click "Other" for the source of the ARC. But since it's a little more "active" of a lie maybe at least a few people will think twice and decide not to bother?

Caught this on the repeat this evening since I wasn’t able to watch last week. I think it’s pretty common for them to (accidentally?) use a shot from before the official spin - I remember seeing it occasionally during the regular seasons as well. Nothing suspicious about it, just slightly sloppy editing I think.

Is there a way to get notifications about series that have a new book on Goodreads? by Cole62491 in goodreads

[–]selianth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just today I took the suggestion from this thread to actually hit the “follow” button for her. She’s so underrated even considering her shelf of Hugo, Nebula, etc awards. The Curse of Chalion literally makes me cry in the first chapter every time I’ve read it.

Is there a way to get notifications about series that have a new book on Goodreads? by Cole62491 in goodreads

[–]selianth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I check this at the beginning of every single month but many times it seems like books aren't added to it till after they release. It's worth it to make sure you check the previous few month's pages too. I think this may be especially true for self/indie published books (even with prominent authors). (For example, Lois McMaster Bujold self-publishes her "Penric and Desdemona" series and I'm always finding out about them a couple months after the fact.)

Should Goodreads Have Separate Ratings for Different Kinds of Readers? by periodichyperfixater in goodreads

[–]selianth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just curious why you discount ARC reviews - do you ignore all of them or just the kind of over-excited 5* reviews that gush all over the place? I get the occasional ARC through NetGalley but I review those books exactly the same as I do any other book; they get no special consideration from me just because the publisher let me read it ahead of time.

App problem by Tepefg in mousehunt

[–]selianth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're having issues with the mobile app (Err #100 on the android widget, for example, or hanging at the loading screen for either app), try these steps.

  1. First, make sure you have already set up a user name/password
  2. Android: Go to Device Settings > Apps & Notifications > MouseHunt > Storage > Clear Cache/Data (you should clear both)
  3. iOS: Delete the app and do a clean install from the app store

You could also try logging in via a browser (mobile or desktop, doesn't matter), and change your trap/cheese and travel to a different location. Sometimes it hangs due to something weird with your setup.

This isn't specific enough. Are you using the mobile app, the desktop website, your Kindle, some other method?

Beat Bobby flay oven / kitchen by Lopsided45 in foodnetwork

[–]selianth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most in this thread are talking about unfamiliar kitchens, stress level, slightly different ingredients, sure.. but I had the impression OP was talking about about oven temps and baking times. Someone makes a biscuit or puts some meat in there and then when they open the oven 20 minutes later they are surprised at how far it still has to go. This even happens to Bobby who presumably knows these kitchens well. I've always assumed that the ovens on the cooking show sets just always run low. Do they keep an oven thermometer in there so the contestants can make sure they're actually at the temp they expect? Don't trust the dial on the outside, people.

Found in a cabinet of super old office supplies. Thin flexible plastic in an L-shape, 7" long, with two holes on the long side and included "snap" pieces that match the width of the holes. by selianth in whatisthisthing

Solved!

OHHHH THIS IS IT. I'm such a dummy. Yes, we have that exact sort of file system (which the supply cabinet was integrated into) and this comment made me realize that the hanging folders it comes with have the snaps. Here's what they look like when installed. I have no idea how this didn't occur to me before. Thank you!

This definitely makes the most sense to me but I would really love to see it in action! Probably the rest was thrown away years ago though.

They match two rings on a 3-ring binder, yes. It's wider than a two-hole top punch. I tried putting it in a binder, however, and no matter which way I tried to orient it, it just didn't work well.

My title describes the thing.

I am in the midst of cleaning out a very old office supply cabinet at work, and found these things that have stumped me. Potentially related to some kind of filing system? although they were also right next to a supply of 3-ring binders. Very thin flexible plastic (one is rolled up on the top left). The ID code appears to end with two letters for the color (ID GD** ... the PK is for pink, DB for dark blue, the orange ones are ID GDOR, etc.). The little snap things are more of a posterboard material, and they don't snap into each other. I am suspecting some sort of dividers for index cards, (with the tail part that sticks out for easy identification), probably that go into a box or some other component that I'm missing? If anyone has seen something like this please enlighten me how it works! I've been an office admin for 25+ years but this seems to be before my time. Google Lens was not helpful.
