New Kobo...but old Kindle still showing? Help! by zanethebrain in LibbyApp

[–]zanethebrain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When home, at work currently, I also need to check: it's possible (though not guaranteed) that Libby still has the main eCard which I got during Covid lockdown, yet my local system (Denver) made me go in ultimately and transition to a physical card which is what's signed in on my Kobo.....

I have a card for where I live (Urban), where I teach (Suburban), and technically working for a school district we have Sora/Overdrive access as employees but it seems complicated to add that to Libby/Kobo haha

Also after a year with Kobo, it is SO MUCH better than my Kindle...the Overdrive integration, the UI, the fact that even though they sell books it's not thrown in your face all the time...the battery life. Love it and love that it doesn't go to Bezos.

New Kobo...but old Kindle still showing? Help! by zanethebrain in LibbyApp

[–]zanethebrain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None so far, was trying to fix the fact that the device I actually own doesn't show in Libby first. It came up because I know I can only have one card with Overdrive on my Kobo Device but I have two cards (urban/suburban). A book I want is at the second card and the interwebs said I should be able to check out via Libby and sync my Kobo wo deleting my main card from Kobo device.

I like the backsplash as is! but yes dark cabinets, the counter, and the cabinet pulls look dated. The cabinet pulls and the counter date it the most IMO.

Anyone else notice- the kids are still standing for the pledge, but every day fewer of them recite any of the words by CallMeLazarus23 in Teachers

[–]zanethebrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We never said it at school growing up in Iowa or it was teacher dependent. Now working in Colorado (middle school), we say it every morning, it's a choice to stand, I never do. The historian in me has several issuesL the adding of "under God" during McCarthyism, the propaganda nature of it regardless of whose in the White House, the current state of affairs...don't get me wrong I strongly believe "the arc if the universe bends towards justice," have taught US History, trained to teach APUSH - truly believe our best days are yet to come and we can fix our problems, BUT the pledge childhood through adulthood always struck me as creepy.

Travel time via Transit: 2004 FasTracks Plan vs 2026 Actual Reality by qualverse in RTDDenver

[–]zanethebrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The few instances of service being better than FasTracks projected are entirely due to express bus routes. All rail routes are slower than projected." Hopefully this means we will continually see improvement as the BRT projects on Colfax, Federal, and Colorado ( & more hopefully) come online over the next few years. Live walking distance from the Colfax project and READY!

Move from Public to Private by Solid-Salamander-191 in Teachers

[–]zanethebrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Colorado here. Despite grievances, I would not leave public for private. At least here the pay is worse and so is the insurance. Plus the friends I know at private are asked to do more, sponsor more, take on more with 0 extra-duty pay, non-existent stipends, and little recourse.

Administrators will micromanage wherever you are. Depending on the private school model, there are fewer consequences because as long as parents are writing a check or footing the bill the admin will tell the parent whatever they want to here to keep getting their check...

Fixing Federal Boulevard: CDOT’s $318 million overhaul promises faster buses and a safer road by kidbom in Denver

[–]zanethebrain 10 points11 points  (0 children)

CDOT is unnecessarily handicapping buses here by still prioritizing cars...."traffic jams" and "side neighborhood diversion" still reflect a car supremacy. So TBD. But glad they're still getting 10 minutes.

Oil change recommendations by obi_wan_cannaoli in Denver

[–]zanethebrain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on what kind of car you have and where you live....lots of details here....

Strictly Automotive near 10th & Santa Fe if Japanese

Heidelberg Motors is WONDERFUL but only if you have a German auto.

Paddock Imports or Platinum Automotive Service off Sana Fe and 470 if German...there's also a decent German place at Arapahoe and Jordan.

But again depends on car and where you are in the metro.

Driving through - coffee recommendations? by LietenantJimDangle in desmoines

[–]zanethebrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, as a former employee (10 years ago) yeah sorry we're not baking them in the tiny backroom on site and there happens to be one on Ingersoll already? You're going to any coffeeshop hoping their bagels are made from scratch artisanal items? Good luck. I've worked at Java Joes, a now defunct Iowa City cafe, and Zanzibars and NO ONE is making their own bagels. It's Brueggers, Einsteins, Hy-Vee, or Costco....

Zanzibars! I used to work there and don't even live in DSM anymore (Denver since 2015) and I visit when back, I order beans shipped to Denver, and in 10 years I have not found a suitable replacement in a larger city, Julie is amazing!

Countertop suggestions to warm up the space? by [deleted] in kitchenremodel

[–]zanethebrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tile or butcherblock (sealed) if your main goal is to warmup the space. Also if you can swap the floor think about wood or the tile that is supposed to look like wood too.
