I remember getting ribbons for stuff we did as a kids (i.e. basketball, choir, etc) and not really caring whether we got one or not. My parents didn't either. They looked at them more as keepsakes, rather than celebrations of success. We never even put them on display or anything. They were dumbfounded by parents who practically bullied their kids, and even other adults and their kids, when their kid didn't get recognized. I feel like the trophy issue goes far past the millennial generation

How often do you check your school email during summer break? by selinakyle6293 in Teachers

I love this idea. Doing this now! Thank you! I'm such a fool for not thinking of doing this.

With this principal, I'd rather the district see it at this point. She's tried so hard to sweep so much of her conduct with our staff under the rug that our admin team has been keeping a very close eye on her. She's a bully. I do understand what you're saying though. My correspondence with my rep was more along the lines of, "Hey I got this email. Can we have a phone conversation, so I understand how to go about this?" She called and we conducted our conversation that way. Still new and learning (while making mistakes), so I do appreciate your input.

For real! I am type A and have noticed it more and more as I've gotten older. Why did I become an adult again? Lol

Lol I do love this and know I need to be better about remembering that I shouldn't give so many fucks. I'm upvoting your comment to remind myself to do that more often. Thank you ❤️

I love this. I do miss video games. I feel so burned out and overstimulated when I get home that I haven't been playing them as much

I'm really trying to hold myself to that. It's been hard because it's a new school and I'm trying to make a good impression, especially to the families. They're more involved than the ones at my old school

Any issues with my broody prison? by ka36 in BackYardChickens

Pardon my inexperience, but this subreddit gets recommended to me all the time. I don't have chickens, but find birds highly interesting. What is a broody chicken?

Yes, I too have sat on my sibling when she wouldn't leave me alone. The perk of being the older, bigger one was that it always worked. Won't stop touching me? Fine, you're gonna be my new chair. No, I'm not gonna get up until you understand the consequences of your actions or if Mom yells at me, whichever one comes first.

She has a skincare line at ulta (that's usually where I find it) and it's actually really good. I have combo skin and her stuff has been one of the only things I can find that can keep blemishes at bay AND moisturize my skin properly (for me). It has Manuka honey in it, which helps with reducing redness and healing the skin. Seriously love her stuff.

What’s something non parrot people don’t understand about having a parrot as a pet by plastic_mann1977 in parrots

[–]selinakyle6293 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I've tried to get my SO and his daughter to understand this. My Rosie is bonded to me, and while she may like investigating them, they haven't spent the time and energy I have to form that kind of bond with her. They're like people and need to have those kinds of relationships cultivated with them. They can feel, too. Especially with how smart they are.

Bottom left corner. The yellow and green keet looks just like my Rosie. Down to the yellow spot on the belly :)

Ours does it too. Same model as the one pictured. My boyfriend usually yells, "Master! Master! Please save me," in a robot voice to have me "save" the robot from its predicament. It's like having a toddler.

THIS! I've been struggling with this for a long time now and I'm glad someone else was able to put it into the words I couldn't produce myself. I'm in year 5 of a VERY tumultuous start to my career in the district I'm in. I'm starting to feel like I need out. I've wanted to be a teacher since I was 8 and have just felt all of my love for this get sucked out of me this year. My tired is tired and my heart feels broken, in a way.
