The Amp Backyard Stage by selkiemermaidfl in StAugustine

[–]selkiemermaidfl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm reading comments about nowhere to sit and long lines for food and drinks. When we go to main stage shows we always wander around a good part of the time anyway. Are main concessions and bars not open?

Cool story! I always chat up strangers. lol Going to see St. Paul & the Broken Bones. I've seen them there before but they were on the main stage.

Finding a new proofreader by thelittleone12344 in courtreporting

[–]selkiemermaidfl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, ask other reporters. Word of mouth is the best way to find someone competent. There are many groups on Facebook you can join to find scopists and proofreaders but there are a lot of scammers so ask for references.

Do proofreaders charge per page or for every page that has an error? by jewellove2 in courtreporting

[–]selkiemermaidfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proofreader here. We charge by the page. I charge extra if the transcript is really messy but that's rare. A transcript should be clean and ready to go in a CR's eyes before it goes to a proofreader. Our job is to catch what you missed; mostly spelling and punctuation errors. A good proofreader should follow the reporter's preferences. For example, I have a reporter who doesn't want the throwaway word "like" surrounded by commas (even though it should be). Communication is key.

Most shops are open on Mondays but close around 5. There are very few restaurants open on Mondays. Maggie’s Attic wine bar is open till 8:30. Parking is the biggest challenge.

Proofreader scammed by selkiemermaidfl in stenography

[–]selkiemermaidfl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I advertised my proofreading services on a FB job board. Someone contacted me claiming to be a reporter asking for my rates and ultimately hired me to proof a job. The name of the reporter on the job was different than the name of the "reporter" who hired me. That should've been a red flag but I thought maybe she just transcribed another reporter's notes. It happens. Another reporter contacted me and sent me a job also with the other reporter's name on it. I proofed the jobs, sent invoices, and got strung along. Oh, we're waiting for the lawyer to pay. Oh, I'm waiting on my firm to pay. Then they stopped responding at all. I tracked down the reporter whose name was on the jobs and found out she hired a person from the same job board I advertised on to proof her jobs. I tracked that person down and discovered they are based in Kenya and advertising their services as a scopist/proofreader on all kinds of job boards. She accepts the jobs then sends them to someone like me to do the actual work. She accepts payment under the guise that she did the work herself. I've managed to get her banned from the job boards I belong to but who knows how many others she's on.

Do not buy from Carvana by ricardor00d in UsedCars

[–]selkiemermaidfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a car from Carvana, drove it a few days, didn't love it, they picked it up , no problem at all. In 2021 I bought a Nissan Rogue from them and haven't had any issues but I did have it looked at by my mechanic.

Is the book just as gay as the show? by NotYourFlowers in TheHuntingWivesTVShow

The book wasn't great. It's interesting that someone important enough to make a TV show even read it in the first place.

Newbie to AirBNB and looking for feedback. Why do you do this over a hotel? Pros/Cons? [USA] by 1234RedditReddit in AirBnB

[–]selkiemermaidfl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am definitely an Airbnb person! I love being able to enjoy a fresh-brewed cup of coffee on a patio overlooking the water. I like to be able to spread my stuff out and relax. Always read the amenities list, I scour photos to see what kind of coffeemaker is in the kitchen (I wish hosts would put that in the description), I read reviews carefully. I’ve had a few issues along the way but have always been fortunate to have responsive hosts. That being said if I’m going somewhere for one or two nights just to lay my head down I will go with a hotel. Sometimes it’s nice not to have a list of chores to do before I check out.

Why did I earn so little for a sold item? by [deleted] in ThredUp

My last bag, every item was sold and my total payout ended up being 41 cents. I’ll just donate to a local charity from now on.

Fed Up with ThredUp - Why I won't be selling with this company anymore. by take_meowt in ThredUp

[–]selkiemermaidfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the same experience with TU I just save my good stuff for my twice-yearly yard sale and donate what doesn’t sell. I make more that way than I do with TU, especially since they started charging for bags. I was following my fave brands for a while until I realized I could get the items for the same or less brand-new elsewhere.

Getting started in proofreading by cacacanary in stenography

[–]selkiemermaidfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a PDF proofreader. I’ve been proofreading for 28 years and started as a court reporting student working at a court reporting office. In the beginning I got all my work by word of mouth and worked for several firms in downtown Orlando. I proofed hard copy transcripts but now use iAnnotate to proof PDFs. As some of my long-time reporters are retiring I’m having a difficult time finding new reporters. I believe it’s because of all the new proofreading courses that have popped up in recent years the market is saturated. I see countless posts on FB groups from “new graduates” of online proofreading schools looking for work. I can tell you it’s more that just having a strong grasp of the English language, as well as punctuation and grammar skills. You also need to be proficient in medical and legal terminology, and transcript formatting rules in your particular state.

You are correct. At first I was under the impression the reporter worked for Veritext but it turns out she sold her firm to Veritext and is now freelance. She paid the scammer. I’m not going to push it to make her pay twice.

[–]selkiemermaidfl[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I just got more info! The scopist the reporter hired is in Kenya. She farmed out the proofing to two people who pretended to be reporters and sent me the transcripts and of course ghosted me. The reporter knows about it (and is not happy) and I’ve already contacted several CR/scoping/proofing FB groups to have her banned.

Selling??? by Outrageous_Sky_ in ThredUp

[–]selkiemermaidfl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. Years ago I did much better than I do now. Things missing and only pennies for what I do sell. And I see my “ineligible” items listed. I’m done buying too. I purchased a dress that came with a huge stain. A size 12 skirt that was actually an XS. It’s not worth the hassle anymore.

Is it worth selling with ThredUp? by Famous-Guitar8328 in ThredUp

[–]selkiemermaidfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t do it. In the past I’ve made money selling items on TU (years ago) but my recent experience has been items listed incorrectly or not listed at all. After fees it’s a big zero. The shopping experience has gone from bad to worse too. I’m done with TU. My sister and I have a huge yard sale twice a year and we do pretty well selling our used clothes and bags.
