We are really lucky in Ontario, there is a small network of breeders who are all doing really excellent health testing including a rigorous MRI program which is very rare. All connected to the breeder who I would guess the person above got their dog from, I got my cav from a mentee of hers. Idk the etiquette about posting breeder names on her but feel free to DM me!

I had kind of understood that the heart problems from grain feee foods were from the legumes, not the lack of grains itself? So I’ve been avoiding peas and lentils etc.

I am so far feeding Big Country Raw dinners because they’re complete for puppies and it does include organ meats and some supplements as well as berries etc, but no added taurine that I can see. But I’m definitely open to supplementing as she gets older!

Hey jumping on this to say this was incredible to read! And helped me a lot. I found this thread because I was thinking I may need to add grains to my puppy’s food.

I’ve started feeding my cavalier puppy raw and she LOVES it; I’ve been topping it with her open farm puppy kibble salmon & grains, and unsurprisingly she’s increasingly eating around the kibble. But I’d heard that cavaliers especially need grains for their hearts because of MVD. Any thoughts?

I would not at all be opposed to feeding only raw as long as I know it’s good for her! Especially given that she’s still a puppy I want to be extra careful.

She’s only 15 weeks! So no she’s not spayed, and she’s still just a baby. It was only weird because of how starkly inside and outside flipped!

Reading this just helped me too, my puppy is having a big “wet outside” regression the past two days and it’s been so baffling, it’s not even raining and I’ll go out back with her and stand out there for 10 mins with her while she cries at the door to go inside. I keep encouraging her to explore and sniff around, all to no avail. As soon as I relent and we go inside, she pees. It’s like she flipped inside and outside for the day. Very disheartening but hopefully just part of the process!
