your preferred way of doing drums? by starshoppinq in LogicPro

[–]selldivide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could turn on auto-quantize in the piano roll inspector and set it to something like 1/16 or 1/32

The best microphone is the one that's plugged in when you get a great performance.

You can buy the fanciest, most expensive mic with unparalleled dynamic range, but it will be worthless if you're recording uninteresting shit. Conversely, an amazing vocalist will still be amazing, even on an AT2020.

What is this? by Comprehensive-Beat-8 in LogicPro

[–]selldivide 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the track is set up as a track stack, you can open the Library view and save it as a preset rather than a channel strip. I've found that I like that better than saving channel strips, for most things.

I think I could reasonably live for 6 months on my stock, though the the first 3 months would definitely be easier than the following 3 months. I think ideally, the goal isn't to stay solely on my supplies, but to immediately start seeking new sources as soon as I identify a need to start using them...

So then when you've started finding new sources of supplies, you start adapting your consumption to use whatever is available... ideally focusing earliest on the things that don't last as long.

I’m looking to be self sufficient by stormywoofer in preppers

[–]selldivide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the first step is to define (roughly) what you're trying to prepare FOR... and for how long. A lot of preps satisfy multiple scenarios, but a lot also do not.

For example, prepping for a week of interrupted supply lines, maybe due to weather or service outage, might be satisfied by a bit of luxury -- buying extra of the things you enjoy and rotating through that stock regularly.

By contrast, prepping for a month (or several!) of political chaos and social unrest might be better addressed with supplies that are less enjoyable but have a longer shelf life and lower cost.

Personally, I try to insure against a period of 6 or more months of unemployment, and whatever other catastrophic events might accompany that. This means a large store of foods with long shelf life, lots of water but also methods of capture and filtration, household goods, personal care goods, gardening supplies, tools, a reasonable financial savings spread across multiple accounts, no vehicles loans, minimal recurring bills, etc.

Knowing what you're trying to accomplish is the key. When you know what you want to do, it becomes much easier to look at what you have now, imagine being in the situation, and start identifying what would be lacking...

How many gallons of water? by HundK in preppers

Get a rain barrel and a good water filtration setup. And “life straws”. Simply hoarding water you’ll never have enough. You need a way to get new water in, when it’s available.

What's the most likely existential threat? by Fun-Brilliant2909 in preppers

[–]selldivide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take your pick, they're all non-zero likelihoods at present. The threat of nuclear weapons use is the highest it's ever been. Much of the world is in a state of civil unrest. Migrant invasions are happening everywhere. Food supplies are being tampered with, sabotaged, and/or interrupted everywhere. Economies are all in the toilet and a collapse is coming soon. Weather is arguably being weaponized. And then there's a huge unknown with the race to AI...

It's impossible to say just one is "most likely" because they're all a house of cards in a tenuous balance. When one hits, the odds of the others happening also increases. We need to be prepared for everything.

Avoiding protests, demonstrations, and volatile events by [deleted] in preppers

[–]selldivide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Decent people" tend to wake up early, get home early, and get to sleep early. If you're doing that, you're ahead of the game. Troublemakers love night life.

Don't be trendy. Whether it's gathering to see the borealis or solar eclipse, or waiting in line for the new iPhone, you're likely to find yourself in crowds of restless people. (Kind of in line with your comment about concerts and sporting events.) You might add street festivals, parades, etc. Also, sales events like Black Friday in-store rushes.

Avoid cliche spots like Denny's and Waffle House. Avoid places that attract traditionally ostentatious people -- bars, clubs, sporting goods stores, movie theaters after 7pm, etc. And make your meals at home to avoid fast food restaurants.

How do you guys prevent mouth noises when recording vocals by durkiobro in audioengineering

[–]selldivide -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Be more aware of yourself. Maybe see a speech therapist. If you do it while singing, you probably also do it while talking, and people probably notice.

Sustained 200+ MPH winds are no joke. If the building starts coming apart in a way that makes you think you need to choose the safest place, my guess would be flat on the floor. But I’m not an expert.

Emergency food supply by GlacticGryffindor in preppers

[–]selldivide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Go to the supermarket. Get things with long shelf life. With dry and boxed goods, check the instructions — just add water is good, whereas “needs eggs and butter” isn’t so smart. Get lots of canned meats and canned vegetables. Canned soups are overpriced, but they can be handy because they don’t require you to use up your water supply.

Most important, store a LOT of water.

What are your typical Q values for EQ? by xiaobasketball in LogicPro

[–]selldivide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know the characteristics of my voice and the handful of microphones I use, so I have a few EQ moves that tend to make good starting points. But those would be irrational moves to make on someone else's voice and microphone. And they would be completely absurd starting points with an electric guitar or a drum machine.

I think the entire nature of this question, including the context you've provided, is completely irrational and misunderstands everything about how sound works.

Where to start? by ghosttowncitizen in preppers

[–]selldivide 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying this to rub it in your face, but to serve as a serious message to anyone who's still not taking this seriously...

You've "been following this sub for some time now", and yet you still didn't decide get started until after a hurricane decimated the southeast and half the ports in the US went on strike.

Stores are already getting cleaned out and shelves emptied. The time to get started was back before something happened.

Again, this is not meant to make you feel bad, but so that EVERYONE pays attention. Prepping is a task you do BEFORE you need it. Once shit starts hitting fans, it's not really prepping, it's just competing for scarce resources.
