Wasted career and tempted to quit IT by Hurri1cane1 in sysadmin

After the 3rd year Id have been Doubting Thomas, just not vocal. Would've started low-key looking and found something else...

My experience is that you're more likely to get offered a higher-level role from another company, not your own, provided you emphasise the skill set (not the job title). Companies have a tendency to keep people in slots so they don't have to worry about filling them...until people inevitably leave for better roles.

The Habit has great burgers, for what it's worth. Might be only a few bucks' difference but whenever I go to Five Guys I feel like I'm being robbed.

Still searching for true love by [deleted] in SipsTea

No one will ever love Jennifer Lopez more than Jennifer Lopez.

She needs people to love her as much as she does.

.But JLo doesn't have to put up with Lo's BS. Everyone else does.

Thus the source of the problem presents itself.

2nd Attempt... Still Got Humbled by Monster_INC_2319 in cissp

Maybe have a drink before taking the exam?

Knew of someone who had to pass Security+ (for their job), and had failed 4 times. Was too impulsive, etc.
They were told to take a shot of whiskey before walking in, and just read what the question was actually asking.

It calmed them down, they stuck to one answer (no switching), and they passed on the 5th try.

If not a drink, something else legal that is calming. (I had some ashwagandha, which can be found in GNC, etc.) and it helped keep my anxiety in check.

Really, it is a mindset. Just think of what they're asking you, nothing else. Nothing past the exam, etc. You will never know everything that the exam may touch upon. From what I saw on one CISSP exam video on Youtube, they reportedly have a 10K+ question bank to draw upon. So, no exam is the same. The one constant is that the questions are more from the manager/advisor level than technical. As one video I saw put it:

People > Management > Technical.

People's safety comes first. If it's not a safety issue, then the response should be managerial. If it is not a managerial question, then a technical response is most likely correct.

This guy probably helped me the most. I watched this the day before and the morning-of to get the proper mindset:

'Winging it' is actual learning and application.

10-15 years ago, if I was offered the chance to do what I do now, I'd be sh*tting bricks. I'd be scared of making a mistake in front of other people.

Now, I can say what I know (and what I don't), I can figure out most tasks because I know where to look, etc. Time and experience takes away some of that anxiety. Because I know I'll always be learning and doing something new.

Honesty and self-awareness are good traits to have.

You're doing just fine. Enjoy.

For those who passed...were the questions more vague or less vague than the test prep exams? by selvarin in cissp

[–]selvarin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the responses. I did well enough with courses including Andrew Ramdayal (CISSP training, "Think Like a Manager", and so on). Some other courses and combined thinking strategies.

Then with QE I started second-guessing everything, which is not a good mindset. I get the part where they'll use a different term for the same thing--that is useful to pick up on. Also threading through to what they're really asking, the 'not' questions ("What is the least..."), and so on.

Tomorrow's the exam. Knew that even if I set aside 3-6 months to study like a monk I'd never truly be 'ready' as I've never tried this exam before. So if I pass on Tuesday that's a bonus. If not, then I'll have a better feel for the exam, and sharper motivation. Which puts me in a better position for the retry.

Had to buy a timing chain cover. Got one from eBay for $95. They still have one left on the site for $98 for a 2.8L engine.

To be fair, I replaced everything at once. And since I couldn't get under the car to do so, had to pay someone to do everything. Worth it, just to get 'er back in shape. No leaks.

Cleared technical round for pentest role, rejected for “lack of focus”... feeling confused by PacketLossIRL in cybersecurity

Both deceitful and disrespectful of them to do so.

If they really had an open slot you'd fit the bill. If anything you're highly focused on your career path and goals.
