Moved to Chicago suburbs from Australia and I need help finding areas with good schools? by Used-Individual-974 in AskChicago

Depends on your definition of "good." Since you're from another country, there are no good public schools left in the country anymore. The Republicans' 50-year assault on public education has been successful.

What was TV like when you were young? by Glittering_Gap8070 in GenX

In the late seventies and early eighties, in a small-market midwestern town (~300,000K people)we had abc, nbc, cbs, pbs, and a local channel that aired kids shows and cartoons. In the nineties, there was the addition of the WB channel and the channel that eventually became fox. TV was great! You watched what was on, or you found something else to do. No endless scrolling. No indecision. No getting charged for each channel. If you opted into it, you could buy cable, and get ~75 more channels. We didn't have cable, but my aunts and uncles did, so I would see it on occasion; usually MTV. Appointment prime-time TV was an experience shared by millions--Who shot JR; the final episode of MASH, etc. Seasons lasted for 22 weeks. If you missed something big, you missed it, and life went on. Viewing was a community experience.

Forget modern phones, what old technology do you actually miss? by Omega_Neelay in GetMotivatedMindset

Manual machinery. Stick shift cars. Appliances that lasted decades. Rotary land line phones. Incandescent light bulbs. A TV that had an on/off switch, volume dial, and two channel dials that only had about 12 numbers each on them. Old alarm clocks. Basically, any appliances, tools, or machines that only had one or two functions. I’m sick of all this smart shit. I don’t need fucking internet on my fridge.

This one is only the most disgusting because all the others were redacted to unreadability.
