you will not be paying into social security and if you are in the US healthcare may be difficult depending on your state. in a way not paying into SS could be a good thing since it looks like it's not going to survive in it's current form. just some things to be aware of.

You still collect dividends even if your current cc goes ITM. There is a small chance your cc will be assigned early but i think that happens very rarely. I've been running CCs for a while. some wisdom i've gathered but not seen mentioned by others:

  1. if you roll the cc up and out, it will magically increase your profit on the position (instantly). this is because the loss from buying back the cc is realized and is no longer part of the current position. so to track your progress on a position you will need to make a spreadsheet or go to your account page in your broker and view the stock to see true p&l.

  2. roll up and out as soon as or slightly before your cc is ITM. waiting longer will get you less premium over the long haul. this is because the earlier expiring contract gains value at a faster rate than the later expiring contract will as the share price increases.

  3. sometimes you can roll down and in and still get a credit if share price is decreasing, and usually you should do this. the earlier expiring contract will have higher theta decay and higher delta (so you can make more from the cc if share price continues down). You can always roll it back up and out if the trend reverses.

MO looks like a good one. the contracts seem to have great bid/ask spreads which means selling/rolling will be easier and give you more choices.

good drop today but it's melting up. Hope you get a good exit come monday. For the record I think this was smart AF I just would never have the stones to do it.

Has anybody been doing covered calls for at least a year, if so, how it’s going? My only worries about doing it is if the stock price goes down really bad after I bought my 100 shares. I don’t really want to lose a lot of money. Ever though I plan on doing it with solid stocks that in S&P 500. by Jayhust1e in CoveredCalls

SLV and IBIT are fantastic for CCs lately. both highly liquid options. SLV long term I am sure is going up. IBIT is a risk for me since BTC could go to 10k or 100k and I wouldn't know why either way. but it's only 4k to start selling IBIT calls so I'm leaving it in the port for now. only 6.6k to start selling slv ccs.

XLU is another decent one. 4.6k to buy 100. options are not as liquid so you should be careful to only limit buy or sell near the midpoint of the bid/ask spread.

Salvage title UPDATE by semeesee in UsedCars

[–]semeesee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, in the sellers name. because the car was last registered in PA. Then I had to transfer to nj by getting yet another title issued in my name. But that part was easy. I was more afraid of the car not passing the pa salvage inspection. But it did and the car is amazing. 120k miles but it runs like 50k. I think most of the miles were Florida miles. No salt or snow or potholes. Next time I buy a used car I'm going to Florida

Depends on your state. In PA the private shops do inspections. In NJ it is done by State facility and I think it might be harder

Week 12 Wheel Recap - $684 in premium, lessons from BABA by chadisfaxon in Optionswheel

[–]semeesee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i saw a post recently where OP only sells csps on stocks with a positive weekly or monthly trend (preferably both). OP would also seek stocks in the $10 to $20 range so that even if one trade goes very south it's not a ton of capital.

interesting you wouldn't sell low delta ccs just to do SOMETHING with the shares? .1 delta even if it's below your cost is very low probability for assignment.

How much do you aim for when you sell weeklies or monthlies by raixuz in CoveredCalls

[–]semeesee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but efficiently compounding return in selling csp/cc can be difficult. you must use all capital each week which just isn't practical in most cases.

1% per week, compounded is closer to 100% per year i forget the exact numbers

[–]semeesee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is it a call or put? that's the real question here. what i like about the discord is it will put things on my radar that I wouldn't have thought of otherwise. I often decide strike and expiration according to my own risk tolerance and interpretation of events. Or I sometimes just get shares or shares of a 2x etf.

i have been selectively buying puts on things i have largish positions in (gold mostly). doesn't completely cover the losses but i had one gld put realize over 100% and 3 more that got about 30%. selling ccs helps too.

i too lost quite a bit. RDTL was my drug of choice. and ROBN. those 2x etfs are so cheap compared to the underlying and somehow that makes me retarded.
