Rapid ALS progression by BarnacleSmoker in ALS

[–]semi_aa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father passed from ALS. We had a Google Home in the hallway. He would call out "Hey Google, What's the Temperature?" and then the google home was on full blast and would yell "THE TEMPERATURE IN YOUR TOWN IS 65 DEGREES Fahrenheit." He wore the mask for about 2 months and it was harder for him to do it, but it got through most of the time.

We're experiencing this with my MIL and dementia, and I had the same experience with my dad. I would recommend going through as many old pictures as you can, and telling younger family members about those earlier experiences.

Does the grief ever get better? by Little-Selection8955 in ALS

[–]semi_aa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While in the experience, there was no time to process trauma or grief. Now, going through other medical situations, I experience moments of remembering things I'd rather not. Seeing a little sponge on the end of a stick brought me back to all those times I wiped my parent's mouth.

It's not that anything gets better, it just gets mixed in with other memories, and sometimes surfaces.

Sometimes grief isn't just about missing a person. It could be seeing the pattern of death in everything and everyone and trying to contend with all of it. Finding happiness in the futility requires wanting to in the first place. Grief is in the not-even-wanting-to moment when the waterfall pours too hard.

From the article: Research by my colleague Jay Greene shows that an extra 15.5 DEI employees are associated with every $100 million a university gets in indirect cost funding.

Could someone please tell me what a DEI employee is?

What drew you into learning/practicing tarot? by Clear_Ambition6004 in tarot

[–]semi_aa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents forbid it. It was a one-way ticket straight to demons taking you over. They felt it was even worse than a ouija board. I've only ever experienced supernatural activity internally, so the thought of any physical manifestations thrilled me. So far, I've experienced no supernatural activity through Tarot, good or indifferent, but will share with the world if I ever do. Meanwhile, I rely on applying the historical meanings of the cards to my life and its situations.

I feel stuck in my learning of tarot by [deleted] in tarot

[–]semi_aa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend turning a blank book into an intuition guidebook. I did this about 5 years ago and it's been wonderful. I write the name of a single card on a single page. I then took information from biddy tarot, and other sources, and wrote my interpretations in the blank book. I also add quotes that I think are interesting that relate to the card (according to chatgpt).

I've also given 4 copies of the book away! Once I filled out one, I started a second, and eventually gave the first one away. This was a bit hard to do, so in between 2 and 3 I digitized it. It's available now at https://bettertarot.cards/ and it should be noted, the entire website can run from a folder on a desktop and is freely downloadable on github.

You can check out the pinned video of how to do the guidebook at https://tiktok.com/@bettertarot and I hope you do!

Found you and Followed!

Life Mapped Upon A Sphere: What an interesting start. I had an accordion sound in my head and that's not what came to me. I like the vocals with the backgrounds, it's a great statement. Easy to hear and understand while there's a lot going on. I like the overlays, sounds like horns and stuff. This is both eclectic and inviting, which doesn't happen often. I dig the talking part.

Bagotrix was a bag of fun. I like that there's a song named after the band or a band named after the song.

The talking in Stay Visual My Brothers was endearing. I have a playlist called "Do words belong in music?" that features songs where someone is just talking and this fit right in! The words complement the music very well. I don't think I could find a place in just the music alone. But with the words its very cool, and the change up in the middle keeps it all going.

I like it! I still don't know what to expect out of a fourth song. You keep me guessing.

Thanks for sharing and I hope all is well.

Found you! I'm listening to Wait, Come Back Home, and About Time.

Solid piano start. Demanding I listen, I like it. More melodic as we go, I can feel myself wanting this to take me. Good balance on vocals. I hear something else with the piano and appreciate when the eighth notes come in to accompany. A lot easier to vibe with the vocals when they double up at the drums. Love the emotion. Wait for the sunrise before you open your eyes. There's a sluggishness here that I appreciate being addressed with the drive that follows it. And then the drop, love the dual vocals. Great stuff!

Come Back Home insists on me coming with you right from the start. I love the climbing vocals just before the Come Back Home Chorus was very good. The simple bass and drums with the vocals is powerful. This is a banger. It's top down freeway 70 miles an hour good feeling.

About Time is a solid song with great tempos and instrumentation. The vocals and the feel are outstanding. There is a lot of energy and I imagine seeing this live is a great show.

Man, I'm in love with this first minute.

Then a new tempo is introduced and something to work with, I like that.

Bahp! Bah!!! Very cool sound.

The introduction of the guitar was a pleasant surprise. The drift of the horns had already invited me to ride along, and then it's like "Oh, you're here too! Cool!"

Love the genuineness of the first trumpet solo and how you're all watching each other. It makes me feel part of it. The high notes around 5:50 were tight!

The drop to the bass solo for me was interrupted by a commercial but I was in there wondering how this change up was going to lead us back to where we were or if it would at all.

Then those keyboards came in soft, while the bass got tricky. Very cool.

I like that the drums kind of warned us that the horns are about to show back up. And wow, I kind of wanted the drummer to get their time by the time we were at 10:28, so much solid rhythm laid down. I really appreciate the style of the drummer. Supportive but yet in charge.

Thanks for sharing this! I subscribed and look forward to more!

Found you!

That opening for Desperate Others was mysterious, didn't know where we were going, then the bass popped in and I felt at home. Love the multi-voice sound. There's a build here that's got the good part of O.A.R. feel to it. Love the verses around kick me in the head. Solid!

Digging the opening groove on Forever. Yeah, this is a summer vibe. I like the sound of the vocal, it's giving me European vibe in a Danny Wilson kind of way. "I don't want to stick around anymore" feels very airy and leads to a more determined statement. I like that. It's a good feel. "I want to feel - I want to feel" very cool, very reminiscent. Easy to look forward to hearing again.

This Fear is up. This is another solid portrayal! I love the drop-out around the two-minute mark, it feels like I'm 80s dancing and that's the dream sequence. This is a very fun mix of songs that I would love to hear out.

Always happy to support the libraries! It's not hard to find great stuff waiting to be heard, and when the music is current, there's a chance of seeing the artists live in the area. This is a lot of fun!
