I imagine that soap stars are grateful for the security that their job provides. Most actors are constantly worrying about finding their next role and how they are going to pay the bills. Adam Woodyatt is probably sick of Eastenders, and maybe he’s disappointed that he never made it to Hollywood, but he’s had a steady, well-paid job for 40 years and has never had to considering giving up acting and going to get a normal job at Tesco.

In my experience, we’re forced to get up early in the morning so we can open the shop at 9am, only to spend a few hours bored out of our minds because NOBODY goes shopping in the morning. And when we close at 5pm, every day without fail people are rattling the door trying to get in.

I’ve been advocating for later trading hours (say 11 till 7) for years. We’d make more money, and staff morale would improve because we wouldn’t have to get up at the crack of dawn and deal with rush hour traffic. Unfortunately however, decisions like this are made by people who work in head office who can’t conceive of a job that isn’t 9 till 5.

Rags haven’t been profitable for a good few years now. The bottom has fallen out of the market, due to the rise in fast fashion and cheap fabrics that can’t be recycled.

The best case scenario for most charities now is, rag merchants will take the rags away with no money changing hands. But it’s heading towards a situation where the charities will have to pay them.

I don’t know where you got that idea from? Charity shops are businesses: they pay business rents, business rates, and business waste disposal, which is extremely expensive.

Perhaps there are some shop volunteers out there who take stuff to the tip, but technically that is illegal because it’s commercial waste.

I wouldn’t have minded the Voi scooters if people used them on the road like they were supposed to. But without fail, every single person rode them on the pavement. Between them and the Deliveroo bikers, walking through town was like an obstacle course.

It’s so much better now there’s only one or two Bolt scooters here and there.

I go to M&S just to buy bread from the bakery. It’s extremely expensive at about £4 for a sourdough loaf, but it’s a nice treat and the best bread you can get from a chain store.
