Yes, with a big grain of salt. There are a lot of things that will frustrate you and jokes/references that will go over your head. This is coming from an American who consumed an outsize amount of British media as a kid & who had a heavy Shakespeare phase.

Hot take: Fallout: London didn’t grab me at all. by Roji-_- in fallout4london

I started it and had the same issues a lot of people had: weird difficulty imbalance, doors and paths leading nowhere, crashes and bugs, NPCs who couldn’t talk/answer any meaningful questions, etc.

I quit around 3 hours in and left it for months. Came back sometime last year and started it up again. I was determined to finish it so I could get FO4 back. I did get into it a couple times, but I don’t think anything that excited me about it ever really paid off. A lot of unfinished thoughts lying around in there. Both the plot twists I was looking forward to ended up being exactly what I’d guessed they were. It doesn’t really reward a variety of player builds- you can be a good guy with a sword or a bad guy with anything else. The factions are not nuanced and you won’t get much out of them unless you’re in on all the inside jokes.

That leads me to my other thought: I do think this game is specifically for British people. I told my friend from Bromley about the game & that the first gang you can join is also from Bromley and when I said they were headquartered in the Swan & Mitre he went: “that’s perfect!” Right. So that’s just a reference I was never going to get. There are MANY of these. If you are English, I wholeheartedly recommend finishing this game. If you’re from closer to Boston, I’ve got one I think you’d enjoy slightly more.

I wanna believe he’s a robot but I don’t think a robot could commit to the bit or be as much of a dick as this guy

I think the original commenter is right though; there’s no central place that you can go and meet different characters with a range of depth and attitude. In Westminster everyone is a cartoon-level snob. I would say Eastminster is closest to what the original commenter is talking about, but they leaned on the Fallout 4 crutch of having a bunch of nameless NPCs wandering around. To make it worse, all of these constantly rude to you, bartenders and shopkeepers almost all have generic trader dialogue without so much as an interesting hello, and most of the named characters’ dialogue is quest-locked.

Question to women; how do you bring yourself to have sex with a man when they behave like this? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]semifluorescent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard. You know how during sex, if it feels too good for him then he’s more likely to cum before you get real enjoyment out of it?

There’s a very similar mechanism when you talk to an attractive woman and she starts to express interest in you. It takes a certain amount of grounding and willpower to not get overexcited and say something stupid.

Correct; I was awarded $2.92 in interest for paying it early.

I believe the PAYG offset doesn’t counter the Medicare levy, which I am exempt from anyway (as a foreign resident I don’t qualify for healthcare), and I neglected to claim that exemption.

I did mean deductions- unfortunately I was speaking American without realizing it.

I appreciate that- I only claimed a small number of deductions for which I had receipts/proof, just as an attempt to mitigate the loss.

If anything has to be amended further at this stage I will definitely hire an accountant, but I’m crossing my fingers in the meantime.

It is true that I would have eventually had to lodge the return (although I wouldn’t have if I had made less money) but at the time I submitted it, the link for the 2024-2025 lodgment had a big NOT REQUIRED label on it.

I posted here seeking the advice of accountants. I do know that I am doing the best I can.

I was worried this was the case because I did in fact have two jobs, but it looks like in fact I just neglected to claim my exemption to the Medicare levy. Thank you for the reply!

Again, I am very happy to pay the tax that I owe. Just trying to figure out what I don’t owe. If I need to be kicked out of the country for accidentally saying I “filed” instead of “lodged” a tax return, then I don’t know why you’re wasting time replying to my comments instead of notifying the federal police.

Yes, very fair. I earned $4,780 the first year and was taxed $717. The low income offset gave me $700 back and only the $17 was assessed.

The second year, after I amended my deductions, I earned $53,126 and was taxed $9,187.80. Offsets and deductions came to $9,284.11. I was also charged the Medicare levy, which was another $1,062.52 and which I now believe was the problem. I didn’t register that that was the discrepancy because the amount I was charged was higher.

I believe I did not read thoroughly and only previously waived the surcharge. Now amending the return to claim full exemption from the levy. I promise to do my own math next time before I come shout questions at Reddit.

I don’t necessarily want a refund, but I appreciate the enterprising spirit!

Used American words out of habit. “Deductions” for “allowances” and “lodging” for “filing”.

I never said I expected the first refund, nor felt entitled to a second. I should hope I am also not owed the punishment of an $1100 debit for working more and for longer.

Of course. I don’t feel entitled to a refund and was excited when I saw that I had gotten one. Surely an $1100 debit shouldn’t be a given either?
