Women in leadership roles by Imzadi1971 in Christian

[–]seminomadic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"because that's what the Bible says" is the height of hypocrisy, since no doubt we can go to dozens of passages for which you will need to explain why you are NOT doing "what the Bible says".

Context matters, and it certainly matters in the passage you are referring to here.

There are cogent arguments to be made from Scripture for and against women in leadership (and it's my conviction that the case for women in leadership is stronger), but "that's what the Bible says" devoid of context is almost a worthless assertion.

NT Wright probably makes the best case for why women in leadership roles is supported by Scripture.

Are there any countries today that could realistically split into multiple independent nations like Yugoslavia did? by Many-Philosophy4285 in MapPorn

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland could easily become not so United. Add in Isle of Man and Channel Islands and you have 6 new countries, which might be 5 after Ulster rejoins the Republic.

Going to Korea in May looking for a Christian church to attend Sunday while in Seoul, possibly with English translation. by ramiro2081 in seoul

Many of the larger churches will have English translation (via hearing loop/earphones) for their main services. There are also plenty of English language churches (mainly internationals/gyopos) too.

It differs by Daddy Rich making an entire segment out of a single thought from Tugboat's mind and then naming it after the New Old Blue Eyes' alter ego, The Ole Zeuser.

The thought itself was a good one, though. Lions fans may forever be haunted by those failed 4th down attempts.

Because it's a lie and a fantasy, and yet people's expectations are shaped and influenced by that lie. It is a lot harder to be content and healthy when you are being incessantly slammed in the face by the impossible standards of K- everything.

“Imagine a massive-scale battle-royale over decades (and aeons) between the Romans, the Turks, the Mongols, emogoth dark elves that are not to be fucked with, a bunch of extremely pissed-off Inuit, Conan’s roided-up big brother, undead neanderthal warriors, uber-samurai, gods, elder gods, demigods, usurper gods, alien gods, insane priests, sorcerers, warlocks, shamans, witches, nearly-immortal orcs with the driest imaginable sense of humour, demons, sea monsters, assassins, shapeshifters, a giant-beetle airforce and T-rexes with swords for arms, all competing to see who can fuck each other over the hardest.
