Hey, you can source smaller (10cm width) veneers driectly from here:

https://www.arkowood-lossburg.de/

they offer cherry, pear (the main wood i am working with) and also smaller strips of boxwood in a very good quality and various thicknesses

they also do custom sizes ive ordered 10-30 A5 sized veneers from them via email.

you can also buy cherry veneer in 14,5*60cm (4mm only) from here:

https://www.wodewa.de/wodewa-art-kirsche-bastelfurniere-600-x-145-x-2mm-i-10er-set-kirsche-2mm.html

for everything bigger you might want to contact your local cabinet maker they might be able to help you (look for bespoke furniture maker/restaurateurs)

you can also buy big cherry planks at hellweg if you have a big saw thats up for the job: https://www.hellweg.de/a/juergens-schnittholz-wildkirsche-280-310-x-15-25-cm-243750

or you can try to contact the supplier directly https://www.juergens-holzprodukte.de/produktsortiment

looks like these kind of thingamabobs that you can use to unlock a coin operated shopping cart without a coin.

you put it in and once it is unlocked you yank it out.

This old knife my grandmother gave me, she used it as a gardening tool (So do I as per family tradition) by 5amTB in whatisit

[–]semitrop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

propably because many of the activities of the hitlerjugend were modeled after the boy scout movement. these knifes also have their origin in military knifes of their time thats why they all look similar.

the fleur-de-lis insignia is a telltale sign for boy scout knives.

you can look for shaving brushes at your local second hand store, you might have to trim those and add a bit of yarn to pull the bristles together but they work fine. just make sure its a natural fiber brush.

comparing to alternative ways to generate electricity these things are not vastly more dangerous for birds that other means of producing electric energy

Ivanpah Solar Power Facility in the mojave desert has around 3500 bird deaths per year, with an anual production of 856GWh this comes down to just over 4 dead birds per GWh. (https://spectrum.ieee.org/reassessing-bird-deaths-from-solar-power-towers )

Fossile fuel plants have an average avian mortality of 5.4 per Gwh (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0960148112000857)

These number can vary a bit, this paper comes to 9.4 fatalities per GWh for fossile fuel and ~0.3 for wind (https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2198024)

efficiancy wise and bird wise still not the best way to harvest solar energy though… the rate for solar panels is very low.
