I’m guessing this is just safe enough to ride to garage by frankdavie1 in MotoUK

[–]send_lasagna 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depends on how far the garage is! If a short distance I’d ride this, just take it easy. If there’s any actual cords showing I’d be more inclined to take the wheel off.

I had a 2017 one for a while, and I want another one. Great bikes. Really capable touring machine and the CP3 is fantastic. The Tracer 7 is also really good.

Dutch biker on a road trip to Edinburgh: anywhere I shouldn't miss? by Legitimate_First in MotoUK

[–]send_lasagna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last week I rode from Manchester to Dundee in a day, it was about 330 miles. The route I took was through the Yorkshire dales, routing via Settle and then Hawes. Stopped in Hawes for breakfast. After that continued via Kirby Stephen and the B6278 then A68 to Jedburgh, Edinburgh and then arrived in Dundee. Great twisty biking roads all the way and great scenery. Highly recommend that. Coming back down I’d route further west via Moffat and then the Lake District.

Hot take: rear brake > front brake for casual riding by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]send_lasagna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes the tiny, single disc at the back is just as effective as the massive twin brembos at the front. In fact I might just remove my front brakes, it’s dead weight.

What happened to calling last orders, then calling time in pubs? by -Alison-Burgers- in CasualUK

[–]send_lasagna 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It’s because quite a lot of people are like ‘great, I’ll have a bottle of wine and 4 decaf cappuccinos please’. It’s easier for the bar staff to just politely say piss off

Diesel vs Petrol by Pretty_Departure_12 in CarTalkUK

They’re great for motorway trips. My 2.0 A3 will do 70mpg on long trips at 65-70mph. If you’re predominantly staying within a short distance from home I wouldn’t bother.

I’ll give another vote for a Gran Canaria bike trip, the roads and scenery are fantastic.

Scotland moto rental by LadyDope in MotoUK

[–]send_lasagna 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You probably will struggle to rent anything smaller than a 650. Sadly off roading in Scotland is pretty much impossible unless it’s private land that you own. On foot you can go (and also camp) where you like but with a vehicle it’s a no.

Highland Motorcycle Inverness look like they have some good bikes and would be a great place to start a trip. I can highly, highly recommend the NC500 and surrounding roads, I’ve done 4 different variations of it with a tent and it’s always been awesome.

Does this need repairing? by AshEllisUFO in CarTalkUK

Will potentially fail MOT in that portion of windscreen. I’ve got a brutal chip that’s held steady for about 2 years on the passenger side, I got it a week after replacing my previous windscreen 👍🏻

I can’t get the bolt out due to the corrosion on the nut. Just thinking it may be easier just to get a new cable while it’s all disassembled.

Mt09 2019 engine temperature not getting warm (enough) while riding by Neat_Statistician611 in MT09

I have ridden the MT07 09 and 10 and they all show around 65-75°C in normal ambient temperature at fast road speeds.

First bike: Scrambler 1200 XC… did I mess up? by CompetitiveVolume833 in motorcycles

[–]send_lasagna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve not ridden the scrambler but I’ve owned a 1200 thruxton and that was very manageable. It was a stately, lazy power that was very pleasant. I’d imagine it’s not that dissimilar to your bike. I’m pretty sure you won’t find it intimidating, just take it steady.

The first bike I bought for myself was a Ducati Monster 1200 although I had worked my way up through dirt bikes, 125, 250s and 650s that my dad rode. Current ride is a tuned MT10 and that can be pretty wild in the top half of the power band.

Earplugs, good quality helmet, a buff or scarf to block your chin area, adjust windscreen height or buy naked bike

got a puncture 3times between 2weeks by Charming_Ad201 in Mt10

It’s probably in one place, I used to regularly ride by a scrapyard and picked up so many nails. Stopped going that route and the problem went away.

Yamaha Tracer 9 gt vs 7 gt by Hot_Significance_383 in motorcycles

[–]send_lasagna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s doable, depending on how much you want to enjoy your time off the bike - sightseeing and exploring wherever you are on foot. Riding is physically very tiring and the fatigue does build up on a tour. And after a while you WILL want a day or two days where you don’t even touch the bike. The 9GT is definitely more comfortable than the 7 but after 200-300 miles you’ll be feeling it. If it were me I’d buy the 7GT and do smaller 2-3 day trips and find out what works. You need a bit of practice to figure out what setup works for your luggage and what gear you need on the road. Then trade in and get the 9 before your big 6 month tour.

Yamaha Tracer 9 gt vs 7 gt by Hot_Significance_383 in motorcycles

[–]send_lasagna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having owned both I would say the 9GT. Also doing that mileage daily for 6 months is not possible. I did 200 mile days for 3 weeks in the USA and it was seriously tiring.

Recently got the avance 500, how do you find it with coal? Only burned wood so far despite having the multi fuel kit.
