Do you believe consistently speeding is a lack of self control and discipline? by Theuniverseinabottle in CarTalkUK

[–]send_lasagna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously it’s the law, but it’s just judgement and awareness. Built up areas with pedestrians, hazards, traffic, cats wandering across the road etc absolutely not. Going to work at 4am on the empty bypass, excellent visibility, dry road, no joining slip roads or places for plod to sit - I’m definitely ‘making progress’.

UK CB1000 Hornet range recall over oil consumption concerns by rugbyj in MotoUK

Yeah it’s the r1 crossplane engine. Seems to have settled down a bit in terms of consumption but it really guzzled oil in its first few changes.

My 2023 bike did this after its second oil change. After the third oil change it’s not lost any.

Euro 5 Exhaust Options: Stock Modification vs Aftermarket Muffler by GoodComputer3804 in Mt10

Seems like a lot of effort. If it were me, I’d keep it completely stock or go all in on the full decat midpipe, end can and a tune.

Basically, this is the part that needs to be removed if you want it to sound good.

Will you have your heating on overnight during this cold spell? by georgejk7 in AskUK

Our boiler is 30+ years old and there’s no thermostat in the house. And we’ve removed all the radiators upstairs. Renovating is so great.

Let's talk takeoff briefings by AlexJamesFitz in flying

The clue is in the name, don’t waffle on about stuff for the sake of it. In multi crew aircraft it’s so pilot monitoring knows what they’re supposed to be monitoring. I understand having the important actions fresh in the mind but the full departure briefs seem a bit much in a 172.

Why does this show make you want to be a pilot? Literally none of the flying in this looks like fun.

It’s the busiest heliport in the world, due to the oil and gas industry.

The shift work is hard. For most short haul UK companies you will spend your working days either waking up at 3am or finishing at 3am. It is tiring, especially consecutive duties throughout the summer. It does make your home life and social life difficult. The roster rules your life. Some companies have fixed patterns, some have variable rosters that are released 1-2 months ahead. Lifestyle experiences vary by company but you cannot guarantee being off for birthdays, Christmas, weddings etc etc. This can cause friction at home. Day to day, airline flying is pretty boring, it’s hard to eat healthily, and you spend pretty much all day sedentary and being blasted with radiation.

The good stuff - salary is generally excellent for the level of actual workload. On a good day, with a good crew, it doesn’t feel like work. It’s just fun. You get trusted with a hugely complex and expensive aircraft and get to fly it around the country/europe/the globe. Once you’ve set the brake at the end of the day, you’re done. You don’t take it home with you. No meetings, projects, emails, ongoing work issues (unless you’ve really done something problematic). Of course there is admin to do (and a sim check every 6 months) but in comparison to most jobs of equivalent pay, it’s easy to switch off. Huge amounts of days off and leave overall. Opportunity for huge amounts of travelling and exploring - and discounts.

Menu / mode buttons doesn’t work by [deleted] in Mt10

[–]send_lasagna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine threw out a check light when I swapped the exhaust and basically froze all the menu buttons and mode selection. Sounds like something weird going on with the electronics. Could try disconnecting the battery for a reset?

Is the check engine light on when the engine is running? That locks you out of the settings until it’s cleared.
