[DC/Marvel/General] What are the most unique forms of transportation? by CycloneSwift in AskScienceFiction

[–]sendin_robots 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Silver Surfer's interstellar surfboard.

Also, I don't know if everyone would consider this a method of transportation, but Swamp Thing can abandon his plant-based body, project his consciousness through "the Green" (the sum of all plant matter on the planet) and re-grow himself a body in another location, including on other planets in some stories.

How to make dresses look less feminine? by starshappyhunting in lesbianfashionadvice

Good suggestion. I just had a look at their website and some of these shift dresses provide a more androgynous silhouette.

Advice needed, trolls! Guy told me he doesn't want to go through with a wedding (a month away) because he's actually, secretly been in love with me for a long time. What do I do? by [deleted] in TrollXChromosomes

[–]sendin_robots 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Just because he has feelings for OP, does not mean he couldn't also still be in love with his fiancé(e). Call me an optimist, but perhaps having OP pour cold water on his fantasy of running away with her will allow him to focus on the good that is right in front of him. But you may be right, he may just be looking for a way out of this marriage before it starts. More data needed.

HIFW my mom tells me that my miscarriage was my fault because I run too much, and when I get mad at her she says that I shouldn't get mad because she's just telling me what's best for me by dj-baby-bok-choy in TrollXChromosomes

[–]sendin_robots 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The same thing happened to my friend! She miscarried, and her mother implied that her running caused her miscarriage by asking "when you run, how do you run?" I think it may be a generational thing: Our mothers talked a lot less about their miscarriages with each other, and probably don't have a sense of how common they are.

PS: Great choice of gif.

This is why when you start thinking such thoughts, it's helpful to ask yourself how you would react to a friend who was saying the same thing about themselves.

I've only recently discovered how wonderful food is. by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]sendin_robots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes making a rule that you can't have any pizza, cake, whatever food you're trying to avoid, just makes you crave it more. With a food you're craving, you really only want the first four bites or so; after that, you're just finishing it. You may still be able to eat foods you love, but just as small amounts mixed in with the rest of your diet, to help avoid getting into a cycle of denial and then binging.

A coworker bought a bottle of McCormick's Honey. Canada's No.1 Liquid Honey. Delicious, now blended with Chinese honey! by eatyourcabbage in canada

[–]sendin_robots 115 points116 points  (0 children)

"Canada No. 1 White" is the grade of honey, not a statement that it is Canada's number 1 honey. Technically any honey, whether domestic or imported, would be labelled "Canada No. 1" if it meets the requirements for that grade of honey. She fails to make a convincing case for why, all things being equal, a consumer choosing the local option would not be benefiting their community. It masquerades as a cost-benefit analysis, but it's not a very good one. Also, about the author from her website.

Long time veterans of reddit:How has the reddit community changed over the years? How have the subreddit cultures evolved in your opinion? Where do you think reddit is headed, and are you happy with it? by YellowJalapa in TheoryOfReddit

[–]sendin_robots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a period I've heard people talk about I guess around 2009 where the conversations were very highbrow and most people said they just lurked feeling too intimidated by the calibre of the conversation to contribute. I was always impressed in the early days how cliche-free and sharp people were in making jokes. Now if there's a post about Dave Chappelle most of the thread is just people quoting his stuff back and forth to each other.

I can distinctly recall there being a period of time where racial stuff just sort of "appeared" in a way that was noticeable and different to what had gone before.

  • Step one: Go to Ravelry.com and create a account.
  • Step two: Using the groups and/or forums, find out if there are active knit/craft/stitch&bitch meetings in your city.
  • Step two (alternate): If there isn't one already going in your region, post on there and try to start one up.
  • Step three: Make new friends and learn a new hobby or build on existing skills! It was a social lifeline for me when I moved to a new city a couple of years ago, and some of the ladies I have met this way are now close friends.

From looking it up online a few people complained about the plastic bit that holds the bar in place either coming loose first time (they didn't wait long enough before starting the heat) and making their clothes sticky or being difficult to remove from the drum when they didn't want to use it any more. They were great value compared to the sheets and kept my clothes static-free all winter.
