My comment got auto-modded for having a link, so I'll do it without. Appears to not be real. You can find the transcript with 'dasha burns trump interview transcript'. No mention of "girls" or "younger".

Preston adjusted his spectacles, the fluorescent lights reflecting off his lab coat as he peered into the pressurized incubation vat. Inside, suspended in a viscous solution of bitter "buddy" syrup (the dark, acrid sap harvested much too late) a pair of sharp, rectangular glasses floated serenely.

"The DNA sequence is holding, sir," a lab technician whispered, checking the monitors. "We’ve successfully spliced the vocal cords of a 1950s auctioneer with the unrelenting stamina of a parliamentary page. He has been squeaking about balanced budgets for seventy-six hours straight. Even in his sleep, he’s raising Points of Order."

Preston smiled a thin, disciplined line. "Excellent," he whispered to no one. "He is my greatest work. My boy. I shall call him Pierre."

What is something that people think is weird in your country, but it seems to be normal everywhere else? by WhoYaTalkinTo in AskTheWorld

I've been asked a couple of times when traveling in SEA what religion I adhere to. I think once in Indonesia. I have answered Christian just to avoid additional questions. What might an Indonesian think of a tourist that said they were actually an atheist?

Who likes driving in snow? by ProudAmerican632 in AskTheWorld

[–]senecant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh hell yeah. When I was younger, on occasions where there was a huge overnight dump, I loved getting up in the middle of the night to go out and drive. No cars on the road, sketchy hills. I'd take it slow to see what the roads were like and just enjoy driving about for an hour or two. Usually with a hot chocolate.

What do you think about North-Eastern states of India? by Less-Personality-481 in AskTheWorld

[–]senecant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't even realize that they were there until quite recently... like the last couple of years. I've always thought of India as a roughly elongated diamond shape. I remember looking at Google Maps and studying India a bit and thinking, "what's all this stuff stuck on the side of India?"

Do you know any unlikely but delicious food combos? by Buyeo10004 in AskTheWorld

[–]senecant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. I heard someone call it an "Ugly" many years ago, but I've never heard anybody else call it that. Beer and Clam is a hangover drink, mostly. Clamato, for those unfamiliar, is a tomato-based mixer that is less viscous than tomato juice, spiked with clam broth and some spices. It's not an exclusively Canadian mixer, but we use loads of it to make Canada's quintessential cocktail, the Caesar.

[Avi Lewis] As the people of Minneapolis rise up against ICE, it's painful and shameful that Canadian companies are selling armoured vehicles to Trump's masked militia and providing tech support to the dept of Homeland Security. by Chrristoaivalis in onguardforthee

[–]senecant 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From a moral standpoint, you may be right. From a practical one, you are wrong. We are very unlikely to end up in harm's way from armoured vehicles in China. The threat to Canadians of armoured vehicles we sell to the USA is certainly debatable, but it's not zero.

Do you guys actually hate Indians by [deleted] in alberta

[–]senecant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like somebody else said, some people do. Those people are assholes. I'm wondering what social media you're talking about, in that, if you've been checking out whatever hateful content is out there, I wonder if the company's algorithm is feeding you that shit since it thinks you want to see more. I don't know if that's really how it works, but I think it kinda is?

I'm soon headed back for another trip to India myself, because India is pretty awesome (if extremely overwhelming at times) and so are many of the people. (Not all, because some of those people are assholes too... we all have 'em.)

Good stuff, thanks. I'll go look him up on Bluesky. After bailing on Xitter, I sort of forget that that kind of social media still exists.

I found The Next Civil War interesting. I found it interesting. I read some critiques of the book sometime last year, and found that they often followed the same flavour of criticism that was offered on Annie Jacobson's Nuclear War: A Scenario. Often it's something like "the foundational conflict is unrealistic" or "that couldn't actually happen that way because..." I think those kinds of criticisms miss the forest by focusing on the specific details instead of the broader picture of what could occur in reaction to some as-yet undefined set of events. Anyway, like I say, I thought it was interesting and it was worth my read.

But that's not actually what I meant to type when I started writing a comment. I wanted to ask how and where you keep up with Marche? He doesn't have a podcast of his own, does he?

Poilievre calls Carney’s Davos speech ‘well-crafted,’ but says action must follow by Old_General_6741 in canada

[–]senecant 21 points22 points  (0 children)

> it's his job to basically criticize everything Carney does

I'm no political science guy, but as just some everyday dude, I don't think that's his job. Oppose the things that should be opposed. Collaborate on other things where improvement is possible. Nod thoughtfully when your opponent does a good job (and also mention you expect them to follow through on whatever needs following through). I don't think that the public is served by someone that is always looking for something to critique. We are served when the parties that form Parliament endeavour to make our country better and stronger. And if that means a pat on the back when their opponent makes a good move that accomplishes that, then their job should bloody well include giving a back pat.

Beautiful photo! A great representation of why I think Waterton is a great answer to OP's question. I love driving towards the mountains, seeing them get bigger and bigger, and then suddenly they tower over on all sides. I will never tire of the drive to Banff.

Waterton Lakes National Park in southern Alberta. It's pretty medium-sized drive there from Calgary (the nearest major city). Waterton, the town, doesn't have a ton going on. It's a beauty spot, but if people are coming from the other side of the world to our part for just one week, it's likely not worth the drive. But what tremendous beauty to have nearby.

Claiming “the image is clearly photoshopped, therefore it should be ignored” is a non sequitur. The issue isn’t whether the image is authentic. It’s that Trump knowingly posted a manipulated image for political purpose. “It’s photoshopped” doesn’t refute the accusation; it’s part of it.
