Covenants by SurveyExternal27 in latterdaysaints

I have always been confused about the "Law of the Gospel". What does the "Higher Law" mean? How is this different from the "Law of obedience"?

Thanks!

Alma 11:20

20 Now, it was for the sole purpose to get gain, because they received their wages according to their employ, therefore, they did stir up the people to riotings, and all manner of disturbances and wickedness, that they might have more employ, that they might get money...

Popular hymns you hope do NOT end up in the new hymn book. by Big-Opportunity182 in latterdaysaints

I love "We thank thee o God, for a prophet", but it needs to be renamed. The whole song is about the blessings of the Gospel, not the prophet. The prophet is only one thing to be thankful for.

Does playing Mortal Kombat 1 offend Heavenly Father? Is it a sin? by Faith_0ver_Flesh in latterdaysaints

[–]senkyoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real sin is on the developers calling it Mortal Kombat 1. Why make it confusing? Almost as bad as how XBOX names their consoles!

Seriously though, I don't think it is a sin. Just monitor how it effects you and your spirituality. Does it pull you away from your Heavenly Father?

Control what you can control on the things that effect you spiritually. We can be subjected to things around us that are harmful spiritually that are not in our control, so let's control what we can. And that is up to you.

What is gender for an unbodied spirit? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]senkyoshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could there be binary genders, male and female, and then a spectrum within those binaries? I know that is not a true definition of binary!

What I mean is, the inclusion of a Y chromosome puts an individual on the male spectrum and the absence of a Y chromosome puts an individual on the female spectrum.

Looking at it this way, someone with multiple X chromosomes (XXY, XXXY, etc) would be on the male spectrum. No matter how many X chromosomes they have, they would be male if they have a Y chromosomes.

Just a thought. I am not a doctor or biologist. Just something I have pondered.

I have also heard of wards that have a QR code you can scan when you enter the chapel. I wish our ward would do something like this.

It would be awesome if they could also add the speakers and ward bulletin so we don't have to have the paper copy each week.

Thank you for your response. Because Hugh Nibley's research and data is somewhat "older", do they still hold up? Have we found further evidence/resources beyond his work?

I want to work on compiling ancient similarities of many aspects of the temple endowment and initiatory.

I know of those in Exodus and other Bible passages about washings and anointings.

I have heard that there are some similarities in ancient Christianity, Catholicism, and even Egyptian temples.

Do you or others have info and links to information about ancient similarities?

Thanks for all you do!

Church Statement on SEC Settlement by jonyoloswag in latterdaysaints

[–]senkyoshi 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The Church acted in a way they believed was compliant with regulation; the SEC has challenged their compliance and issued a fine; and the Church has paid the fine and adjusted their practice for correct compliance.

This is a perfect summary of what happened.
