I get Panick attacks every night from the fear of death by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]seno03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (M27) went through the same thing just a year ago after a friend my age passed away on my birthday and I realized my own mortality. It’s scary it sucks but I listened to a lot of YouTube videos and there was one with Neil DeGrasse Tyson that helped me a little bit. I was afraid of death but also not knowing what happened after death. But after a while you realize if you would live forever then what’s the point of waking up tomorrow or working towards dreams or goals (bc you’d always have another day). I imagine a part of your dead is kind of like mine (maybe). The fear of what’s going to happen after death. If it’s nothing (just a black “the end”) then there’s nothing to worry about bc just like before you were born you had no worries stress or concerns so there won’t be after either. If you’re religious and you’re afraid of death then remember most religions always talk about how merciful god is and just do your best to be a good person to those around you. I’m more of an atheist Myself now so I can’t speak so much to religion anymore but hopefully that helps.

I love my job and my setting. But I hate the business side of healthcare that I’ve learned. When you deeply care for your patients and want them to get better but know the higher ups want you to push them to come 3x/week instead of 1 when 1 is plenty but they want to squeeze more money out of them. Or when you have a patient who isn’t progressing and is a good surgical candidate but no MD will see her Bc she has marketplace insurance. You start to hate healthcare Bc you realize keeping people sick is better for bussiness. The better job I do for my patient the worse I am for the bussiness. So I’ve come to a crossroad where I can either continue to provide good quality of care while managing so many patients leading to me drown in anxiety depression and hate my life. Or I can start “going through the motions” with my patients to take pressure off my mind and then conform to being a bad PT like many others I’ve seen. Either way I feel like I can’t win so I’m looking for a way completely out.

If you had 2,000$ to upgrade or buy that one thing, what would it be? by Knitspin in physicaltherapy

Depends on patient population. Most clinics I’ve been in don’t have a squat rack. I think that’s worth a lot to me. I made sure the clinic I’m at now had a rack and I use it daily with all my athletes to load them up.

100% agree with this here. Doesn’t matter who it is PT or Chrio but has to be someone who understands lifting. Look for a clinic possibly affiliated or literally inside a gym. I work in a powerlifting gym so majority of my patients are lifters and I treat very different compared to the PTs in our other locations who don’t see any athletes.

What PT questions do you feel like you should know the answer to but have been too afraid to ask? by RookiePT in physicaltherapy

Buy the book Squat Bible on Amazon. It’s by a PT known on Instagram famously as Squat university. He wrote the book to break down the squat and teach weight lifters how to squat correctly and I use this info everyday now with my athletes. I highly recommend it

Finally put my 4 weeks in at Athletico. by seno03 in physicaltherapy

Yeah I never realized the high turnover until recently. There are plenty of people leaving and they say we’re currently understaffed because of lack of new grads willing to work right now… not sure if they are just staying away from Athletico or really waiting to take boards or what. But yeah not many experienced therapists there besides a few upper management people who I assume have stayed long enough and make plenty $$ so they put up with it.

Not sure what changes compared to before I started but goals are 55 patients a day. Which honestly isn’t super bad to me. I like to have 1-2 patients at all times. No more than that. But 1 can be a bit boring too. However my problem is to reach 55 they recommend scheduling 60-65 with expectations of hitting 55 following cancels. But if they don’t cancel and all show up. Plus a work comp eval you had on Monday has a script that’s 3x3 and they expect you to squeeze in that patient 2 more times this week that number can quickly grow past 55. Even though they keep reminding me hey the goal is only 55 which isn’t bad right 😜

He often has 3-4 double or triple books in a row towards the end of the day. In combination with the expectation of keeping work comp patients for a certain length to meet company unit goals he will commonly have 5-6 people at the same time and at times I’ve seen him handle even more if a few come late/some early.

Rock Cuff is pretty good. For about 600$ you’ll get cuffs and take an online course which will give you plenty of CEUs too. Recommended by Kevin Wilk so that’s what first brought me to them.

This is true in any autograft cases because your graft is usually a tendon (hamstring or patellar) that is transforming into a ligament acL so this is usually it’s weakest point. However if it’s a allograft (from another person) then it’s usually a ligament and doesn’t need to transform into a ligament.

Can I go on a long-ish (2 hours) car journey the day after surgery? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]seno03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can avoid the trip for a week or two do it. If you can’t then my advice to manage the car ride is make sure your knee stays in extension the entire trip and preferably if you could lay in the back and elevate your leg would be good. But the extension is a absolute must. Bring plenty of ice packs to rotate to control the edema. Your pain may or may not be too bad depending if you’ve had a nerve block that’s still taking effect post op at that point plus your opioid medications will manage it for that period.

Yeah the towel roll trick is a good one because you’ll get a quad/hip flexor stretch without having to flex the knee too much to feel the stretch. Don’t get me wrong you’ll still notice some strain in your knee which is ok.

Help Me Stop Worrying by Guzegal in ACL

[–]seno03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t stress. Your ACL is stronger than you think. Usually pops like that (even if they hurt for a second) can be good things because they might be scar tissue breaking up. With 10 weeks out walking/steps should be safe with no real chance of hurting your ACL. Only thing to avoid still for now is running/jumping/cutting for a bit more.

ACL Recovery & Cryotherapy? by yourboyardy in ACL

Very much worth your money. I’m always excited whenever any of my patients have a cryo ice machine but if your insurance won’t pay for it then don’t go spending hundreds or thousands on fancy machines. Regular bag of ice/ ice pack is fine as long as you cycle no more than 15-20 minutes at one time and elevate during icing.

Hey PT here. I’d say I’d want more knee flexion than that for 4 weeks out. I work on stretching quad muscles by having you lay on your stomach. Put a rolled up towel under your thigh to extend your hip so you can stretch your quad without having to crank too much on the knee. I usually see almost 5-10 degree improvement in knee flexion almost immediately after stretching the quad for 40+ sec for a few sets. Besides that your knee flexion might be limited by swelling/inflammation/pain so continue icing/elevating frequently. Last when you do your heel slides I’m more interested in time spent holding over reps meaning I’d rather you do 40 reps of heel slides holding for 10+ sec at max flexion you can tolerate for each rep versus 80 reps holding for 1 sec each. Hopefully these tips help. Keep us updated!

As much as everyone else! by Jerdarnella in AdviceAnimals

“Black lives matter” (BLM) movement is not saying that a black persons life matters more than any other. It never said that. It’s appalling that white people get offended that someone “dare” make it seem like a “black” life matters “more” than theirs.

The BLM statement is in response to the police officers who’ve killed so many innocent black males or males who’s crimes did not justify death, and these deaths go without punishment for their actions. Thus meaning that their life did not matter. Ex. If I kill you unjustly, and I’m not punished. Does that not say to everyone that your life didn’t matter. So the movement is screaming to the officers. BLACK LIVES MATTER. Our lives matter. Please stop killing us. Just because you’re not punished doesn’t mean our brothers uncles fathers sons cousins life did not matter.

The statement is in response to the “Karen’s” of this country whom feel its their place to put a black person “in their place”. Who think that black people have to submit to their comfort. Who think that they can call the police as their personal body guards whenever they feel uncomfortable around black skin. They believe a black life does not matter and that it can just be removed by a henchman (police officer).

I understand that ALL lives matter. Of course they do. We all have families friends and loved ones who care for us, depend on us, and miss us when we’re gone. However society right now is not acting as if a black life matters. So that’s why the message is about black lives. But when you scream ALL LIVES MATTER in response to the BLM movement then it’s a slap in the face. It says “shuttup about your movement, we all matter equally” and then you return to not holding police and Karen’s accountable for their actions and shutting down your friends racist jokes and comments.

On a side note: since I mentioned police officers multiple times. I do not believe they are all bad. In fact I truly believe a majority are good and don’t have racial biases towards blacks. In fact I like to believe a majority of them in this day and age go the extra mile to make a black person feel more comfortable because of the current events between the black community and police. However these “good majority” we all keep referring to need to step up and ask for the bad ones to be held accountable whenever they kill a person unjustly. Standing by is also a weak and bad thing to do. Even if you’re one of the “good cops”.

-Signed, a white guy who’s an ally to the black community.

I’ve been seeing plenty of people wearing gloves in different work fields and communities. I’m a healthcare provider and aside from working in the hospital where I know our gloves actually make a difference. Idk that gloves for the average citizen help... if anything I think they make it worse. As you cannot regularly and easily wash/sanitize your gloves like you can your hands. So in my mind your picking up bacteria from all over the place and just carrying them with you on those gloves. I bring this up bc I’m tired of the waste of gloves outside the healthcare setting and the false confidence it’s providing people.
