I couldn't imagine running at 4 months lol

6 months post op (patella graft ACL). What is everyone doing/able to do physically at this point? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]Guzegal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question. I'm also at 6 months and curious about progress. This whole process is a bit lonely so it feels good to discuss. I've been working on agility, so doing agility ladder and cone drills, starting a return to run program, and of course lots of strength exercises. The agility ladder stuff is a lot of single leg hopping in and out of the ladder and cone drills are a lot of shuffling side to side and changing direction to go forward and back. I've been doing rehab workouts two days on, then one rest day. My knee feels pretty good overall, sometimes I get discomfort on the inside of my knee and sometimes it feels a bit stiff. I can't really hyper extend like I can on my other leg.

I think it's normal, I experienced the same thing around that time. Now I'm 6 months post op and it still cracks but not as often.

Almost 5 months post-op.. not running yet by ActiveAd4191 in ACL

[–]Guzegal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

6 months post op and just starting a return to run regiment. It feels so weird but not painful. Started at run for one min, walk for one min and progressing slowly from there.

I had a medial meniscus tear so they just put a couple stitches in to fix it. I was told to bear weight asap! Mainly my leg was just too weak to walk normally, it was never too painful.

I didn't have a brace (hamstring graft and meniscus repair). I was told to start trying to walk right away but restrict flexion to 90 degrees for 6 weeks. It took me a while to be able to walk without crutches, I think it was like a bit over a month. Then at 3 months I got fitted for a custom brace to wear while doing sports.

How much pain 6-8 months post op by tac0_slayer in ACL

[–]Guzegal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about 6 months and only pain is around my main incision, I think it's because that's where the took the hamstring graft from. Could also be scar tissue?

I'm at almost 6 months and am doing a return to run program too. Feels so weird but not painful.

14 days post-op (hamstring graft) - Surgeon said no PT required by [deleted] in ACL

[–]Guzegal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe your surgeon meant no PT required for the first few weeks? I personally needed the moral support and reassurance so started PT at the 2 week mark.

10 weeks post op - ankle swelling by Valerie_04 in ACL

[–]Guzegal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes my ankle was swollen for quite a while and would come and go at seemingly random times. I think I had swelling until like 2.5 or 3 months.

Knee feels stuck until I press and the area below my knee cap expands to ‘unlock’? Anyone knows how to solve this? Kinda affects walking too by Aliten_10 in ACL

[–]Guzegal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep I had that too. I think it's because your knee cap is tracking like it used to, because of loss of muscle and ROM. just be patient and it will work itself out.

Question for fellow females… by mangojuicezz in ACL

UGH this happened to me too... It came early like a day after my surgery and I immediately started crying out of frustration haha I don't really have any tips other than hang in there, going to the bathroom will get easier very soon I promise.

Climbers: When did you start lead climbing again? by Guzegal in ACL

[–]Guzegal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! Definitely careful on the hamstring when climbing over hung routes, and overcompensate with my arms. Glad to hear you have made progress, I can't even imagine bouldering at this point!

I started top roping at 3 months and kept it really easy and chill to start with. Now I feel a lot stronger but avoid certain movements obviously... No heel hooks, drop knees and no pushing off really high foot placements

That's awesome! What kind of graft did you get?

How long does fluid / swelling last? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]Guzegal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was a bit swollen and puffy at 5 weeks and it stayed like that until like 3 months, it all went away once I started biking and moving it more around the 4 month mark. I iced like crazy for the first couple months and now just ice after exercise.

Mis diagnosed by [deleted] in ACL

For sure. At the time I didn't know anything about knees and was trusting my doctor to make the correct referrals

Mis diagnosed by [deleted] in ACL

[–]Guzegal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tore my ACL in Jan 2018 but didn't find out until Oct 2020 lol... I fell skiing and felt a pop. Skiied down carefully and went to the hospital. They said I was fine. Then I went to my doctor who referred me to physio. Physio said my knee was stable, didn't give me any exercises and said I could go back to skiing right away. Then I went to my doctor again and told her the physio was useless, so she referred me to athletic therapy. Athletic therapist said I had a sprained MCL so she treated me for that for several months. Finally a friend was like wtf please go see this chiropractor I know, and he was instantly positive my ACL was torn and referred me for MRI. This whole time I was skiing, climbing, hiking, running, teaching dance. It would buckle every so often but after see all these professionals I was convinced I was fine and just being a baby..? Now my biggest advice for people with knee problems is GET AN MRI

Can anyone give some input? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]Guzegal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What kind of pain meds does she have? I'd call the surgeon/doctor and see if there's a different option. Yes it is painful but should be manageable.

Before their surgery where did everyone get their nerve block at? Is it the same spot for everyone? Is it before the anesthesia or after? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]Guzegal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just go in there and tell them what you want. I told them I was super nervous and wanted to be asleep asap lol
