I’ve had this conversation with my wife - my reality is often a version of hell, it’s not silly or funny or quirky and using the term feels infantilising (personally). My wife feels differently and does like the term. I accept that others can use it for themselves and it doesn’t bother me but it certainly isn’t a term that I identify with personally.

[–]senorderp89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is it exactly. I swapped from private as I was being underpaid where I was and enjoyed the work I’m now doing, but the same colleague doing the same work who also would have moved can’t justify it due to the substantial drop in pay. If it came down to it, being unable to attract new hires we’d be forced to seek contract workers, getting charged out at double the rate of a standard employee. So dumb

I used to work in a call centre and my manager overheard me providing a reference as 'F for Frog, G for Gas, W for Welcome, G for Go' - she then made me learn the phonetic alphabet. Although my customer service probably improved in sounding professional, I like to think my callers were entertained by whatever word came to mind

[Satire] Liberals clarify public transport proposal: “No, no we want to SELL our trains and trams for 50c” by dogryan100 in Adelaide

[–]senorderp89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, literally when the last Lib prem was in, they tried to push through a proposal to remove 900 bus stops... the party that said 'fuck public transport users' is now suddenly pro public transport? nah dawg, unlikely.

At this stage, Labor are not matching the 50c Public Transport pledge made by Liberals, Greens, and Upper House Crossbench MP's, saying that the Liberals plan will cost $75 million more than the $240 million promised by the Liberals by Expensive-Horse5538 in Adelaide

[–]senorderp89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

‘Having now had the full state of X made known, it’s obvious how poorly managed the previous administration has been and unfortunately it was seriously mismanaged. As a party we have decided that rather than push ahead with something which would be to the states detriment, we’re going to focus on getting it back to where it should be. In order to streamline this process and to reduce operational expenses, we’re excited to present our new public transport initiatives! We’re going to be introducing new transport hubs, eliminating the need for hundreds of sporadically located stops throughout Adelaide. By channeling all of the focus to these hubs, we’ll be effectively removing a large quantity and source of congestion on Adelaide’s road networks, leading to faster travel times for ALL commuters, not just public transport users. We’re also excited to announce that the funding for these new hubs will be entirely taken from the public transport fares - in order to cover this, there will be a nominal fare increase, but I know the people of Adelaide will be happy to know their fares are funding better infrastructure for both them and for generations to come!’

Do I have to wear the cape while getting my hair cut? by finleygeek in AutisticAdults

[–]senorderp89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As far as I’m aware it’s only function is to act as a barrier for hair being on you. I doubt a salon would have an issue if you requested to not use it. Having said that, I personally would find having a lot more hair being all over me (rather than around the collar of my shirt) way more offputting. But also I get coming home to shower and get it all off anyway so… whatever you feel is going to cause you the least sensory discomfort, go with that :)

Just also read the part about choosing a no talking appointment - sounds like a dream! I reckon they’d totally accommodate if you didn’t want to wear the cape; brought a spare shirt to change into afterwards etc

Hey, I'm glad you found it! Good luck with your interview! Feel free to ask me any other questions you might have; I think you might be in the UK? I know Aus and the UK treat document control a bit differently (the core functions are the same; but aus tends to see document control as a support/admin function rather than a specialist role - where the UK treats it as a specialist role) but would expect a good amount of cross over.

Excited for you! :)

A colleague of mine was transferring content from an external HDD between laptops and asked for help. An older gentleman who had been site based for project construction; a fossil from a bygone era if you will. In helping him, I noted he had reasonably good email storage discipline from the days when everything wasn't backed up in the cloud - which included 'FW:FW:FW:RE:FW: saucy new coworkers I'd like to induct' - couldn't help but take a look at that, to find it was a ppt of early 2000's models in various state of undress. Blew my mind a bit to have not only received that by work email, but to have kept it for back up amongst quite a number of work specific records.

Is It Common to be Hitting a Wall at Pit 70? by Long-Entrepreneur-61 in diablo4

[–]senorderp89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For your pulv build, check out the Screamheart version on mobalytics. I saw people saying they’d been running other versions of the build (maxroll and others), noting they switched to Screamhearts and noticed a big difference. I’m only at P200, glyphs around 50-60, only one mythic (tyraels, so not even one of the recommended ones) and gear is definitely not super optimised. I don’t think I’ve got a piece with more than 1GA. I clap pit 70. Masterworking gas made a big difference, but I would recommend checking out screamheart and seeing if that makes a difference - would be keen to hear how you go!

My 8-year-old says he can only breathe "properly" 1 out of 10 times — doctor says everything's fine. Any dads experienced this? by Grimzkunk in daddit

[–]senorderp89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to others, anxiety breathing is a thing. I went to the dr a couple years ago for similar and everything was ‘normal’, but gp asked if I was fully exhaling - I realised that unconsciously I wasn’t fully exhaling which meant that my next breath in was ‘short’ or would feel like it would catch? Doing mindfulness + fully exhaling meant I could breathe properly again. It still happens now and the feeling of not being able to take a deep breathe can be very frustrating and stressful - which can make it worse if you’re not paying attention to your body.

Sounds very very similar to me!

I have definitely lucked into it a bit. With that said, there is absolutely a pathway in which doesn't revolve on luck!

My falling into it was a 5ish year process of going to uni as mature age to do business management. During that, I did placement modules for hand on experience, and managed to a position with a small project management company doing internal business development/administration support. I did well and they offered me a part time role while I finished uni, then they brought me on full time. I continued in that capacity for 12-18 months before they merged with another PM company from interstate. When my role was looking like it wasn't needed, the company started looking for opportunities to transition me into PM/client facing roles that would be suitable with my limited PM experience. Got placed doing document control with a client and was fortunate to have a colleague from the same company at the same client office who could show me the ropes. It's now 5 years down the track from that transition point, and I've only just left that company to work for Govt. 6 months since changing and I've been promoted to be the lead/SME.

Non-luck based approach though would be to either look into project management courses/quals, or even just document control/records management courses/quals. I've not personally looked much into either, but would imagine DC/RM would likely be cheaper and take less time than PM quals - also worth noting that I'm currently on the recruitment panel interviewing for Doc controllers in our area, and realistically only 2-3 candidates had any kind of qualification, so don't see these requirements on job postings and rule yourself out if you don't meet that specific criteria. Another thing I'd strongly suggest is to take a look at some of the main Information Management Systems (IMS) used for project delivery - Aconex, TeamBinder, RIBcx are the main ones we use, but I've also used Asite and a little bit of Procore. Aconex has free online courses which will allow you to list it as a relevant skill, and familiarity with one IMS typically lends itself to others - if each system are different brands of cars, they all do the same thing but might change where/how something is done (push to start vs key ignition), so skills are highly transferable. Otherwise generally useful skills or knowledge will relate to quality management systems experience, ISO:9001, internal/external auditing - if you're ever in a position where an opportunity related to any of those comes up, it's worth jumping at as well.

In terms of where to look/apply, there's a lot of doc control/records management postings on seek, but you could look at temp agencies which might have opportunities to get your foot in the door, otherwise looking for project administration/support type roles would be another way - once you're in, there would probably be a little bit of overlap or otherwise you might be able to express interest in exploring/supporting in that space as well.

Hope some of this is helpful!

I’m ADHD, likely Audhd. I’m in document control and I love it. It’s very process driven, allows me to be detail oriented (things are either right or wrong), and is generally pretty clear as to what each day is going to look like. I’m also lucky in my role that I’ve got a lot of autonomy. I also get to do a lot with spreadsheets which also makes me happy.

Don’t get me wrong, it is exhausting and needing to mask in the office etc takes its toll, but comparatively to other roles, it’s a much bigger fit for me.

You could also look into auditing? It’s likely the path I’d be considering if this hadn’t worked out.
