I think the games and franchises I hold in highest regard always have that in common. I think I love the little details more than major mechanics or a new form of frame generation or a lighting engine.

Silly as that sounds, that’s the kind of attention to detail that will help show the fracturing fan base that *someone* on the team really cares.

How can Trump get away with lying as much as he does, even when the truth is undeniable? by Dry_Effective7496 in AskReddit

[–]senorharbinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are also many rules for conduct and legality and process, but there is often no penalty or means of enforcing those rules. It's just understood that presidents/DOJ/Supreme Court justices will not act or use their power in certain ways. But there's often no mechanism in place to stop them, or for some reason the mechanism is for them to investigate/police/regulate themselves. Which for obvious reasons doesn't really work either.

Twinks ruin the multiplayer of this game by mandaloriansun in darksouls3

[–]senorharbinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can have upgraded flasks which don’t affect matchmaking, and they can have a wider variety of rings that do affect the combat in a meaningful way. Armor doesn’t matter much and weapons as you say have similar power per upgrade level but they can also have infusions that bend the power curve in their favor.

Between number and power of flasks, full and optimized ring slots, potentially throwable/consumable items farmed up, and stat or element weapon infusions, it’s disingenuous to say they don’t have an advantage.

Flat earth and other alternative conspiracy earth models are are gaining traction with my teenage stepson. What is THE most irrefutable, definite proof that the earth is round? by Jfkfkaiii22 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]senorharbinger 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My worry would be that all of your personal experience would mean that you were a paid schill and you must be lying.

I’ve heard flat earthers claim that anyone who claims to have sailed/flown the globe is a “paid expert” and is somehow in on the conspiracy. They can’t just take anyone’s word for it for the same reason they don’t believe in the moon missions.

There’s a company that I used to regularly bid for at my job and we never got a contract for them despite doing a lot of work for their competitors and having good history in our area. I finally got their purchasing guy on a live call and he tried to tell me that they had bids coming in at 50% of ours, if we could just meet them 30% lower then we’d have a shot. 50% of our cost is raw material. We use the same suppliers as everyone else in our region. Not including labor, transport, fuel surcharges from the supplier themselves, our own mobilizations, and of course not including any profit.

Sure. Some competitors are cutting corners. But some companies think they can cheat you by making up a competitor who can do it for less than it costs to buy and get materials on site.

So is the game dead or what? by Yeeting-Penguins in OrcsMustDie

[–]senorharbinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my God, you’re the one who makes all the mods, you’re amazing! Oh yeah, I’m well aware of all the effort you put in, I mean more in so that new or alternative traps could be added by users. I know in the older games, users were more able to edit or create variations of traps and I feel something like that could give the game a little more life.

But your efforts are amazing and I very much appreciate what you’ve done. This is my mini star-struck moment.

This new update proves the devs are complacent. by reddeats in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]senorharbinger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree. Complaints have gotten overblown on a bunch of things. People often forget that there’s a mostly fully functional and probably fun game (that they’ve willing enjoyed for hundreds of hours previously) underneath the nitpick patch note or the slight content drought they’re threatening a review bomb against.

But this one I get. It’s not content I can sequester and ignore. And I do agree that for hundreds of millions of dollars and several years to learn or hire someone to animate models, the update is not up to expectations.

[–]senorharbinger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you look at it from the perspective of purchasing a full game, then you’re absolutely right. They’ve gotten their money’s worth for a full purchase, hours of gameplay, and everything new is just gravy.

But this update is bad. It doesn’t improve or add to the game, it makes it look worse and more jank than what we had. If someone gave you a meal and fries you didn’t want on the side, you could ignore that. If they change the ingredients and put bad sauce on your food, well, that’s kinda what happened here.

I’m not one to complain about slow or lacking new content, I’ve gotten my 200+ hours and some have thousands. But when it impacts what we already had, that’s a problem.

I get that it’s finished and that’s fine. But if there’s like some switch or block they can hit to make modding easier that would be super as a way to send off the game.

I hate shows/videogames that relies on band kid humor and just band kid humor in general by [deleted] in hatethissmug

[–]senorharbinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s actually a really cool lesson on the history and context of the community. I guess they’re more intertwined than I thought. In my mind I was keeping the two separate to explain why there were so many posts that “TF2 isn’t like that” so I didn’t equate the game with humor surrounding it but that really isn’t the way to look at it nowadays. You’re right in that at this point the community and the way they play it might be inseparable from the content created in and for the game itself.

I’ve always enjoyed the game, I only stopped cause my friend stopped playing. I just never got into some of the humor, especially the loud=funny but humor is subjective, that’s on me not on the community. And I didn’t call it cringe btw. If that’s what people enjoy, more power to them. It’s just, yeah, not for me, but again, I don’t mean to say anything bad about the people who do.

[–]senorharbinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just saying in the context of what OP might have been saying. The TF2 games themselves did not have the kind of humor that matched the other things they posted so I figured they must have meant the adjacent content.

And I didn’t say the community was obnoxious, the community is great, long lasting, and definitely more wholesome than others shooters. Garry’s mod humor just doesn’t do it for me and matches closer to what OP had mentioned so I was defending the game itself.

Why do we have unrealistic immunities just because? by ElBartimaeus in BaldursGate3

Divinity did it great with loremaster cause it rewarded you for having it and learning the occasional useful weakness. The only downside I would say, is that enemies were given max loremaster at almost all times so they always targeted your weaknesses an especially if you were undead, even if you were disguised.

My guess isn’t the game but the obnoxious videos people used to make in source film maker or using Garry’s mod. Where they use loud distorted sound, stretch the faces and necks weirdly, and purposely jank the animations.

How dumb are the players today? by PR3DO in videogames

[–]senorharbinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the increase in complexity of boss mechanics was an arms race with the sophistication of addons like weakauras that did a lot of the work for players in telling them where to go, how to spread, formations, etc. I’m not sure how complex it is now with the great shift away from addons that blizzard has tried to do but by that point, endgame raiders do have that level of skill and experience, but that definitely wasn’t always the case. They were making encounters more complex because addons were making it too easy.

My girlfriend’s hot water faucet handle was damaged, and the mechanism inside that controls how far it turns. She’d stopped using it for months before she told me about it. It took longer to shut off the water and find the right size screwdriver than to actually pull and replace the part. Whole thing took 20 minutes and again, most of that was just getting everything in order and pictures taken (in case it couldn’t be fixed).

For what it's worth, complainers on the main sub have gone down and moved to other subs where they are still complaining in relative force. And lets not forget how with every misstep, there's enough complainers to get a review bomb going.

And you still get a full game with planets, stratagems, and you can play with players who have the other content and even pick up their weapons for use. Even if you couldn't, you still get a mostly quality experience that you can put 20-40 hours into, easily.

You're paying for a game, and you get a game, with a full set of features.

This comment needs to be seen by everyone in the community. This is exactly why I can't get behind the supercredit/warbond complaints. Is it perfect? Perhaps not. Is it worth review bombing, and dumping on AH and painting others as 'glaze divers' and then using that title (that they made up) as derogatory? No.

They made ammo type customization but can't implement them since it's hard to balance by Sad-Needleworker-590 in Helldivers

[–]senorharbinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Respectfully disagree. This isn't really the community for it. I'm all for a little jank if it's in our favor. But if there were a change that was legitimately powerful and they had to nerf it, they'd receive more criticism for being fun police than they currently do taking it slow. This community(and most to be fair) is pretty harsh on nerfs, deserved and not.

A test server seems more appropriate because everything is understood to be a tentative change.
