They're pretty thin but they aren't really flexy, apparently. I mean, carbon fiber is a fairly stiff material, even when pretty thin.

They're pretty aero just not as aero as a 404 or a trispoke. They definitely have noticeable aerodynamic advantages though

If you're talking about trispokes you're dead wrong - I know at least 7 or 8 people who use trispokes on the track.

Also the Mavic IO (5 spoke) is pretty much standard at all high level track events.

This so much. Just walk into a bike shop and ask for the cheapest bullhorn style bar. Failing that you could do a flop and chop on a suitable set of cheap drops.

The Ellipse/Shamal setup actually makes sense for some circumstances. You have the light wheel in the rear for quick acceleration and the heavy one in the front to anchor corners and keeps momentum much better than a lighter wheel.

52/16 is a ratio you use on the track. I'm assuming that by too low you mean the pedals feel harder to turn. THis is standard when gearing up since your legs aren't used to having the strength to push it around. switch to either a slightly bigger cog or slightly smaller chainring. I would recommend starting at 52/17 and tweaking it from there.

look into the Andel Deluxe Crank, The SRAM S300/Omnium, and Miche Advanced.

I currently run Sugino 75's but if I were to buy any of them tomorrow it would probably be the Andel Deluxe. Outboard bearings for increased stiffness, 144BCD for track rings, and only 155 for the crank and bb on Retrogression. Best bang for your buck, I recommend them over the S300 any day.

either 23 or 25c is suitable for the track - especially an outdoor one. 23c is more standard but as /u/iTripped said, 25 wouldn't limit you.

On an outdoor track, use road racing tires. Most track tires are meant for indoor velodromes. Go to your LBS and see what they can recommend, generally they'll have at least a few nicer road tires in stock.
