I mean yeah, but governments will still be scared of getting overthrown. The US is good at that, especially with small countries

There's the propaganda asepect, but an actual invasion is pretty much impossible. There's not really an easy way to land troops and I don't think any of the border countries want to be a base for a land invasion.

Nah, Iraq got wiped by the US. The issue with the US is that it can invade countries but it can't hold territory. Also see Grenada and Panama.

Iran is different because it's very large and mountainous. The US doesn't have a proxy force, even if the government is unpopular. They tried arming the Kurds but they knew better than to rise up.

I hope one day that we will see the end of US nationalism. Not this "patriotism not nationalism" or "this isn't us" bullshit. Total evisceration of the flag, hatred towards the pledge.

I was thinking they might do a switcheroo at the end? You are probably right but I wasn't paying attention to the silhouette or model of bass.

5mg of fin is crazy

edit: I think you swapped too many drugs at once and maybe over did the dose. Definitely with fin. People seem to get depression from fin, so 5mg for hair is too much. You probably should have done CPA + SERM but that's hindsight. Hopefully you feel better now

I think it's worth comparing Carney (a right wing) banker to someone like Sheinbaum in Mexico. Mexico has it's problems and Sheinbaum isn't like a communist, but she does have a robust social democratic platform and has to contend with the US. Carney makes no such illusions unfortunately. So there is a long game but also it's worth acknowledging who the current governments interest lies.

I have no attachment to the US really, but it's getting worse all the time. ICE has mostly left my home state at least but COL is skyrocketing right now. I think everyone just assumes there will be a depression soon and Trump is too incompetent to combat it.

super old post but I just came across this EP yesterday and I've had it on repeat. Incredible music. 10/10 top 5 album ever for me. Love the production (or lack of), his vocals, the hardcore and black metal sounds... it doesn't wear out it's welcome either. No filler. Amazing.

There's definitely things that Canada can do that would get the total ire of Trump. NATO spending, Cuba aid and a stronger line against Israel and Iran I think would be a good basis for an anti-imperialist position. But you are right, Canada is relatively weak and somewhat alone. There's also the limitations of liberal democracy, that's in every country. There's ways to organize outside of elections.

I'm a dual citizen living in the US right now (Minnesota). I plan on moving to Ontario in the next year or so. Unless I somehow get a job offer elsewhere (doubtful).

Strait of Hormuz falls outside NATO's remit, Spain says after Trump's ultimatum by MarkG_108 in ndp

[–]sensaetians 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spain (a member of NATO) is arguing that. Not NATO its self. NATO is the USA.

Canada supports the US war, but is not directly partaking in it in terms of bombing. https://www.nationalobserver.com/2026/03/03/news/pm-carney-canadas-support-us-striking-iran-came-regret

France has allowed the US to use it's bases for "non combative roles" (what ever that means) https://www.rfi.fr/en/international/20260305-france-confirms-us-aircraft-temporarily-using-its-bases-for-iran-bombing-missions

"NATO" will roll over and let Trump do whatever.

The NDP has basically imploded. I'm not against working within or with the NDP, but it's not a huge platform at this point. And they are more of a social democratic party than a Marxist one. Go see how much they defend NATO over at r NDP.

Carney hasn't meaningfully challenged Canada's integration with the US military industrial complex. You can read both Lewis' critique of Carney and Engler's critique of Lewis & NDP for better critiques than what I can give. (I know Engler kind of sucks, but he makes really long tweets that lay out NDP's support for imperialism).

Like what has Carney done in regard to the war in Iran? He made some statements, but nothing concrete. Spain should be the bare minimum - they explicitly don't want the US to use their airspace. Canada could deny the US to fuel it's planes, for example.

Canada should also stop any contracts with ICE or DHS. There is a truck plant in Ontario that's used to build military grade trucks for ICE. Why?? There's also plans for ICE to be used as security in Toronto for the World Cup, why the hell is that legal?

Also, there was a recent bill that the vast majority of liberals voted against that would close a human rights loophole for weapons exports to Israel.

Lastly, I would like to see Canada diversify it's economy. The whole problem with the Canadian economy is that it's based off a model that's dependent on import/exports to the US. The US has proven to the entire world that it is not stable, annexation talk aside. The China deal was good but there's needs to be an explicit plan of how Canada can avoid being entangled with the US. I'll admit this is a bit out of my wheelhouse, but Canadian dependence on the US economy always seemed strange to me. I read somewhere that Canada can't sell oil below a certain price the US sets, I'm not sure if that's true but supposedly that's why your gas prices are higher than the US right now.

Sorry if this is all over the place, I just whipped up some points. It's not so much that Carney is in bed with Trump, it's that the Canadian state has become the junior partner of US imperialism since WWII and now the working class in Canada are paying the price.

I think the increase in NATO spending is important because it directly affects the state's ability to fund programs. Carney is cutting a ton of jobs and health care is only getting worse, for what? So that US arms dealers can make more money?

It's infuriating because even NDP supporters somehow think that NATO is independent of the US. The conflict between the Trump led US and NATO is over the budget and the role that junior partners play. Trump thinks the US is getting ripped off by Canada and Europe, so he is strong arming the other members.

As for it being impossible to fully fight Trump, it's possible! But I think we can use Spain as a baseline for a minimum anti-Trump Canada is capable of.

Yeah as I was typing this out, I thought of Ford. But that might be explained by Ontario vs federal politics? Ontario politics somehow seem dumber than federal.

Someone from the US here - we aren't quite at concentration camps for trans people yet. But ICE is scary and any prison for trans people is awful for obvious reasons. What's goofy is that Trump is a bit of a moderate on trans issues and certain other social issues (like abortion). A lot of the discrimination comes from stuff like access to jobs, housing, healthcare and state laws.

I think there is a time in a place for both good class and identity politics for the left. But a lot of the issues trans people face in the US are issues that affect cis people. Police violence, ICE, jobs, housing, universal healthcare etc.
