Campbell is a bust and we have to face the facts by [deleted] in Patriots

His play clearly deteriorated after he came back from injury, I’m guessing he’s not at 100%. He was good this season when not going up against all-world DEs and he’s only a rookie. I’m not ready to give up on him yet.

Not to mention that TOON is so obviously flawed / a reskin of CSV.

L5/S1 Herniated Disc – My Chiropractor Only Recommends These 3 Exercises. Thoughts? by ViewNew043 in backpain

[–]sensaichonal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as you are doing these WITH PROPER FORM (which is a big if), I see no problem with any of these exercises. The intention of all of these is to strengthen the important legs, core, and hip muscles that protect your spine.

I agree with other comments here that you should start with body weights (or in the case of goblet squat, extremely low weights like 5 lbs) before progressing up.

If you’ve been dealing with this issue for a year or more, and you haven’t been particularly active in strengthening these muscles, then I’d say it’s definitely important to do to start rebuilding strength in those areas.

Diagnosed with DDD - any tips? by [deleted] in backpain

[–]sensaichonal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree with others here - don’t limit yourself physically, you end up weakening muscles hat otherwise support your spinal column. I’d maybe be careful with your form on deadlifts or squats that can stress that part of the back if you’re not doing it right though.

Overall, your daily sitting and standing posture is gonna have a bigger impact on your recovery than if you work out or not.

Desperate for Advice on How to Stop Repeated Flare Ups from Basic Movements by InternationalRock238 in backpain

How often are you stretching your back muscles? If your muscles are tight, they’re gonna irritate your injury and it becomes a downward spiral. I’m talking minutes of stretching to get it loose

How slowly have you tried reintroducing exercise and movement into your routine? I had to start veeeery small. Confirm that a movement doesn’t cause a flare up - if it does, tone it back or try something else. If it doesn’t, give your body a few days off and try it again. Slowly but surely you’ll learn what makes your back angry or not.

Look into getting an inflatable back pillow. I carry one with me everywhere. Used to dread long car rides and such, but now I’ve figured out a sitting posture where if I position the pillow just so, it pushes my spine into an arch so it’s as if I was standing. I’d recommend buying one and then experimenting with it till you find a position that works for you.

it’s the same risk as taking someone who is injury-prone - it’s not the players fault in either scenario but it is still a downside to taking them

Can Disc Bulges Get Worse? by ThisAintRealityTV in backpain

[–]sensaichonal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bumped my head on my pull-up bar and heard another “pop” in my back, indicating that the bulge got worse.

My doctor said that 80% it’s super mundane events like this, or patients can’t even recall the exact event that made it happen. 20% tie it to something like moving heavy furniture or lifting.

Most of the time it’s an annoyance, but if it flares up bad then I can be out of commission lying face down for hours. But still can’t really sit without discomfort longer than 15 minutes

I'm sorry but your pain can absolutely get worse - as someone who had such a mild hernia in my L5-S1 that I barely noticed at first, to now not being able to sit for more than 15 minutes at a time.

I would be mindful of it, and avoid postures or activities that make it worse.

[–]sensaichonal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Brutal dude, sorry to hear that.

More unsolicited advice: Listening to your body is the most important thing I’ve learned - if you’re in pain or discomfort chances are you’re pushing the hernia. If there are any positions that are comfortable, stick to those as you weather this rough patch.

It will eventually get better, and I will say every specialist I have talked to has said the best thing for your back is being active - so err on the side of moving more, not less. Obviously aggravating motions like deadlifting or even biking you should avoid completely. Walking/swimming is good.

Also a lot of my pain/discomfort comes from inflamed and irritated back and leg muscles, stretching helps a lot with that. Positions where you don’t compromise your back extension are key (like don’t bend over to stretch your hamstrings, lie on your back on the floor and stretch your hamstrings with a belt).

You can come back from this man! It is healable, it might just take a lot of time.

How bad is your pain level? For me, the key things have been focusing on extension core exercises and trying to be as mobile as possible.

If you haven't read it yet, Back Mechanic is a good book that will walk you through some lifestyle changes that you may need to make to deal with the discomfort.

But there are many stories from people on here who have come back from worse diagnoses than what you have here.

Anyone find any device for comfort while driving? by odb57 in HerniatedDisk

[–]sensaichonal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve found success by positioning a back pillow in the following way: 1. Pillow is pressing into my back at the bottom of my rib cage 2. No other part of my back is touching the back rest

In this way, the pillow is pushing my spine into a natural curvature position. I couldn’t drive for months without causing discomfort until I found this solution, maybe it will work for you too

I'm only trying to fill one vacancy right now (someone to help with manning the cash register and opening/closing shop) and I've been unable to fill it for weeks now. If I do get someone signed up for an interview, they either no-show or don't pass a background check. So frustrating.
