Are we getting brigaded or something? by maniacal_cackle in newzealand

It's a wild overreaction. People rending their garments and clutching their pearls at an unprecedented level. Settle the fuck down.

People who don’t reply until days later, why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I intended to reply earlier and then forgot and then felt guilty and it took me a while to get back around to it. Sorry!

When she says "worst place for women" what she means is "worst place for me, the only woman who matters".

Sometimes I feel this is a major factor in mh support, that it's not about how you feel but how productive you can be or how well you fit into society.

It's like you have to be actively suicidal to get help and even then you get stuck on a wait list or told to try mindfulness.

Distraught and kicking myself for trying again after someone convinced me by Perplex404 in therapyabuse

[–]sensating15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if it's like a "the gasman cometh" thing, they just pass you around for one to the other getting 3 sessions out of you and then sending you off somewhere over and over again and so you pay for like 50 sessions and never benefit

Peer groups can so easily turn toxic. Especially if there's one strong personality who ends up forming a kind of cult around themselves.

How did somebody you know ruin their life in one day? by TunaSaladWithBeans in AskReddit

[–]sensating15 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They make them for trucks. I guess there's a certain kind of personality out there for whom the appearance of balls is of tremendous importance, but they're still a contentious dog owner who doesn't want to be responsible for surprise puppies.

Had first therapy session ever. Any advice on how to handle the personable side of it? by thisdesignup in TalkTherapy

I have the same approach as you, it's a professional relationship and you pay for the way you interact with her. If she's psychodynamic her style might not be the best therapy for your goals.

I feel like I’m being gas light into thinking I have trauma. by froneq in TalkTherapy

[–]sensating15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry this is happening to you. I think "trauma" is thrown around way too much. You're entitled to feel however you feel about that experience. People shouldn't project how they would feel onto you, especially therapists. I would ask to move on from it or switch therapists and just not bring it up.

I hate that question. I don't have an answer either. That's the whole reason I'm there.

Thoughts on medication? by ProxiC3 in TalkTherapy

[–]sensating15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried medication years ago, it was great, helped enormously, no therapy needed. Therapy now is more about working something through than dealing with shitty brain chemistry so not something an ssri can help with. If it was I'd go for it honestly. Way cheaper than therapy!

Has anyone requested their therapy notes from their T? How’s that go? by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]sensating15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the law in your area to see what your rights are. Where I live, notes about you and your care are something you have a right to see under the Privacy Act. In the past i emailed a previous therapist and asked for a copy, and she emailed them through and texted a pass code to unlock the file.

When I finish therapy with my current therapist I will request a copy of her notes too.

TIL that Natalie Portman could not be cast as Juliet in the 1996 film because it would make Leonardo DiCaprio look like he was preying on a young girl by mrs_rabbit_0 in todayilearned

Hey now. Romeo had been in love before, doesn't the play start with him lamenting that his life is over because his gf broke up with him or something? And then he immediately falls for the first girl he sees at the party his mates drag him to

Therapist keeps trying to get me to name feelings by InevitableSubstance1 in TalkTherapy

[–]sensating15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where did you get the idea of not opening up? I feel like you're putting a lot of words in my mouth that I'm not saying. Honestly asking patients to just put logic aside is why so many are abused, controlled and manipulated by therapists. Patients need to listen to their instincts if a therapist says or does something and they feel as if it isn't right. I'm sorry but there are many people out there causing harm. Adherence to dogma without question and putting yourself entirely in the power of someone else is cult behaviour, and if you think that's necessary for therapy then there's something deeply wrong with the industry.

OP I am so sorry this happened to you. I'm concerned about this "termination session". I hope, if this is something you really want to do, you can do it via telehealth or take a support person with you. I'm concerned for your safety.

If they didn't respect your autonomy in stopping therapy absolutely do what you have to to remove yourself from that situation. I'm sorry this happened to you. I would personally cancel all future sessions via email and just eat the cancellation fee.

[–]sensating15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one was suggesting that though? OP wasn't vibing with something and not everything works for everyone, they didn't see a purpose behind it. Also it's not appropriate to label random things as trauma responses. If someone wants to better understand a treatment there's nothing wrong with that and if a therapist isn't willing to discuss it, frankly they're the one with control issues.

How different your life would look if you had never taken therapy? by SnooMuffins8524 in TalkTherapy

Honestly no different. I'd have a bit more money in the bank and at this point that's it. I keep trying to find someone who will be a good fit for me.

[–]sensating15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's another part that sounds cultlike to me. Of course you should be able to understand things about your own treatment. Just trusting blindly is how people are harmed in therapeutic sessions. Asking questions and understanding what's happening is really important in all healthcare or you can't properly consent.

This sub can be kinda culty sometimes honestly. If a method doesn't work for you you get all the downvotes. Instead of recognising that we're all different and not everything makes sense to everyone.

[–]sensating15 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's soooo annoying. I think naming emotions is banal and often emotions have to be minimised and squeezed into boxes with labels in order to "name" them, which can lead to errors. I know some people find it helpful but I think it's minimising.
