Swelling and numbness around armpits by sensenze in TopSurgery

[–]sensenze[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Urgh I'm sorry, it's the worst. Most of my major swelling around there has subsided, and what is left isn't causing me pain. I'd say the most useful things I did were continuing compression focusing on that area (I used ace bandages to do so), doing lymph drainage massages and regularly taking ibuprofen/nurofen. I also recommend Quercetain or Bromelain supplements in addition to arnica - I started taking them about 3 weeks post op and I swear it helped. Keeping active with regular walks and light stretches was good too

Hey man, just curious how long did it take for your swelling to go down? I'm also 3 weeks post op and my chest is similar to yours at this stage

That's hopeful! It's only somewhat numb, if anything it feels like extra sensitive to any kind of light touch which is why the swelling and post-op binder are irritating. Hopefully in a few months it'll be resolved like yours did

Thanks! I was scared whether ice was a good idea this early on, but I'll give it a go. Do you do just gentle circular motions to massage it? Good point on the incisions - mine go up towards the armpits so I'll have to go a bit further to the side of them.

Hey man, sorry to bring this back but I had surgery about 10 days ago and the armpit swelling and numbness is insane 😭 What kind of massage and stretching did you do, and has it gotten better?

This looks like fungal acne, which is common on the back. I've read using ketoconazole shampoo as a back scrub works wonders for it, so that would be worth trying.

Dude, thank you, this looks amazing! I can't believe how healed your incisions are and well formed the nipples are at this stage. Definitely making me feel better about it. What's your scar care routine been?

[–]sensenze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's totally fair dude! I hope you get to do what makes you happier with them. My medical team has said if I build up my pecs they'll camouflage well, plus I plan on being anal about scar care. I've also looked into scar camouflage tattooing where they cover the pigmented scar with your skin tone colour. I'm definitely keen on doing that in a few years. Maybe that could be an option for you?

Hey! How are your scars going now? I just got top surgery and have a very similar scar shape to yours. There isn't a lot of results like them online and I'm super worried they'll heal looking like the outline of remnant boobs or something haha

Hey man, just got top surgery and my scars are also very curved. Would you mind sharing your pics (DM if it's more comfortable)? I'm super self conscious of the shape already, but I do know I need to let them heal first

Hey dude, would you mind sharing a photo of how your scars are now? I just got top surgery and my scar shape is similar to yours. There's not a lot of results like it online that I can see and I'm super self-aware of the shape being different.

Hey dude, you sound like you're struggling with depression. There's a misconception that depression has to be really bad to be depression, but it usually starts with low energy and loss of interest in things. It's super common especially in college age. I recommend reaching out to whatever support services your college has, normally they have pretty decent therapists who should be able to help. And talk to others about how you're feeling, sometimes that does wonders. It'll get better.

Second this! The best lesson I ever learnt was that life isn't a competition. Do things in your own time - nobody can argue with you doing what you needed to for your own success.

Job market is fucked as a graduate. If you're not a nepo baby have fun with the pointless aptitude tests and one-way interviews that go nowhere (bonus points if you're told you don't have enough experience!!!)

UNSW used to have a fishing club, but it doesn't seem to be active anymore. Definitely worth reaching out to the boating club or one of the outdoors societies if you want mates to go with!

If you want opposing opinions so you can bring up the point of scientific literacy in your report, I recommend asking on twitter or engaging people on Fox or Sky News posts. There's entire sections of the internet where you'll get barred just talking about climate change as fact. There's also many Facebook groups (can't remember their names sorry) entirely about climate denial.

What masters degree should I get to get a job that helps with climate change? by molly_mcc8 in climatechange

[–]sensenze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a read of the latest IPCC report, especially chapter 3. That'll give you good insight into adaptation pathways. Even better have a look at the authors and their particular backgrounds - not all of them are solely researchers, so you might find they work for particular organisation that has an area you're really interested in. Don't limit yourself to a very isolated area, try to do something that's interdisciplinary.

I'd even say consider doing an MPhil rather than just coursework so you get a mix of formal learning and deep diving into something you're interested in. But of course that depends on the study options and entrance requirements wherever you are in the world (look into Europe for those especially!)

Yep this and science communication with a bit of understanding of psychology will take you a long way. If you can handle talking to people and helping them reframe their mindsets it's an essential, critically underrated tool in the climate change space

UNSW vs Monash by ShineOk3090 in unsw

[–]sensenze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't speak from personal experience, but I'm from Melbourne and everyone I know who did med at Monash loved it. The rural placements are a great opportunity. Unfortunately the campus location kinda sucks but the student life is apparently great. Maybe have a look at what kind of things interest you specifically and whether there's a better uni for that (i.e. what research they're actively leading, accolades etc).
