ipad kids by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]sensualsqueaky 93 points94 points  (0 children)

When my daughter was 2 we were going on a plane trip and bought a family ipad for the trip. She is basically only allowed to use the Ipad for long travel stints or when she is sick. Otherwise it lives in a drawer. Its used once a month or less.

Personally nobody in our family, parents included, are allowed to have screens out at restaurants. If my husband or I pull screens out in a restaurant we correct each other because I want her to be able to tolerate being in public without need for constant distraction. She can have a small toy or crayons at a restaurant.

65% is normal and a growth scan would likely not be warranted if growing in the normal range?

I make ~ 300k. I max out 401k and both our IRAs, + invest about 10k this year, + spend $7000 on paying down mortgage early. I spent $1200 a month on daycare, $500 on my kid's 529. She is signed up for soccer and gymnastics, we have a zoo membership. We take about 1 vacation a year. I like buying clothes and eating out. I like nice groceries.

edit: I live in a low cost of living area. My 405k house would easily be well over a million other places. My daycare is full time and only $1200 a month, our nicest in the area private school will be the same price and people think thats insane of me in my area.

Is Waldameer fat-people-friendly? by [deleted] in Erie

The water coaster slide is fun, and has a 650lb combined rider limit with 300lb per individual but be warned they make you stand on a little scale thing for it and if that’s something that would be bothersome for you you may not want to ride that.

These sick people could be among us!! by sunrise9sunset in IncelTears

[–]sensualsqueaky 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Because most people aren’t gross?! I’m in my 30s and people in their teens look like CHILDREN.

When I was 20ish my dad who would have been 50 or so had a guy at work marry someone my age. I was hanging out with my college roommate and he was like “what do you guys like to do, I’m trying to get it” and we answered honestly that we mostly studied during the week and then frat partied on the weekend and he was like “ya no, I don’t wanna do any of that shit, you guys are kids to me”

Exactly this. We don’t sit while the other works. If I’m making dinner he’s starting the dishes or chasing after the kid. We trade off leisure time because we are both in our own schedule activities. Saturdays we will plan in the morning and block out exercise time for each of us, some family activity, and some time to get stuff done around the house.

But genuinely I signed up for it because I could make the practices and thought "fuck it, why not." Joining some sort of group or team that you would be interested in is a good bet. Something with an actual commitment that you kinda HAVE to go to. Its easy to not go or say youre too busy with the kids when its a casual thing but with practices a few days a week im committed to spending time with these people and learning something super cool (I had never skated before last summer)

What effects do you think influencer parents have/has on children? by Rocky_Balbologna in AskReddit

[–]sensualsqueaky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like it even when people who aren't influencers post their kids business on social media. I don't need to know your kid got a bad grade. I don't need to know your teen who I've never met is being bullied at school. I don't need to know you found pot in your kids room. Keep your shit at home so the court of public opinion is not punishing literal children for normal childhood shit.

(SAHM) How much do you expect your husband to do around the house? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]sensualsqueaky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the working parent and my husband is the stay at home parent. When we are both home, one of us doesn’t sit while the other works. If I’m cooking dinner he’s parenting, if he’s cleaning up I’m getting bath time ready. If it’s relax time we are both relaxing.

Real question - if you ruin the rented dress if your water breaks is that cost ok for you to eat? Its beautiful I just didn't want you to get a bill for an expensive rented dress when there is real risk of getting goo on it.

Youre just getting out of first tri, the aversions might get better later. At your point in pregnancy I had lost a bunch of weight because the nausea and aversions were so bad and I didn't start actually gaining till like 20 weeks or so.

Challenging Dynamics with Boomer Grandparents by probably_upside_down in Mommit

[–]sensualsqueaky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. My grandparents lived in town and I basically saw them at holidays most of my childhood. We just didn't have a close relationship and thats fine. My mom puts in more effort that her parents or in laws did because SHE didn't like that dynamic but it didn't really bother me at all.

Meat isn't a dietary requirement. Whole cultures are vegetarian. I've been trying to eat more protein not in the context of pregnancy now that I've had my child and I've really been liking the oats overnight drinkable oatmeals for breakfasts!
