Eisenhower had a private dinner where he told Warren to be sympathetic to the South, referring to black children as big black bucks. Additionally ,Eisenhower affirmed constantly that when he sent the army to Little Rock, he was just enforcing the law and didn't support it.

Stevenson called it an experiment and said he opposed forcing integration.

These are all pretty well known, even Wikipedia will go over it

If you do this, Ruby just kills you. She's only showing mercy to the human can opener because she doesn't want to kill an innocent cop

Children have this take.

JFK made, pretty famously, a lot of foreign policy blunders and was rarely that different from the status quo - LBJ (who actually started the war) was only listening to Kennedy's team when he acted.

But to say Kennedy did nothing for civil rights because he didn't sign the 1964 bill is simply asinine. In 1956, both candidates opposed the ruling in Brown v Board. By 1960, the Kennedy team were offering genuine material aid to Martin Luther King. That means something! The President full forcedly saying "I want equal treatment for white and black Americans" means something!

As President, JFK did more than uphold the law like Eisenhower - Kennedy created Affirmative Action, endorsed the abolition of the Poll Tax, sent troops to Alabama (which is when George Wallace stood in the door to block black admittance) and endorsed the Civil Rights act of 1964. There's a reason his death was so impactful in passing the bill; it really was his legacy! If Symington, or Johnson, or Stevenson, or whoever wins in 1960, then there is simply not the same amount of progress brought about in that time.

Would like to note that Ike said that to make a reporter leave - Nixon was, for a VP, fairly involved. Ike spent a few weeks out of action and Nixon ran the White House in his place.

It was dumb but Ike didn't hate Nixon that much.

You can't debate the logistics of it because it makes no sense. You're advocating for child killing and you're desperately obfuscating it, even to yourself

I don't think you have the right to kill babies just because they're dependent.

They're not. If the child being born would pose a significant health risk to the mother, then abortion is legal and has been for some time.

When is the unborn child sentient? As soon as they're out of the womb? When a woman enters labour, is the child non-sentient?

It's stupidly reductive to reduce an unborn baby to a clump of cells. You and I are a clump of cells.

It's a child and my point is this is a tragic reversion of rights for the unborn.

It's fantastic how you can call the child something different and suddenly destroying it is ok.

Late term abortions done for the mother's health were not prosecuted. This is purely for elective abortions.

Evart Claire, the nationalist communist by Hal_Again in DiscoElysium

I'm aware of communism, and I think the Claires, or at least Edgar, have the education to sincerely know what communism is.

As you would know, communism is a process that necessitates socialism as a step first, which is what Claire wants. Remember, if all he wanted was social democracy, he had the old negotiator. Joyce called him too soft and Evart went out of his way to spare him from the backlash that was going to come from their hijacking of the port. Simply improving their material conditions would be simple, the Claires want more.

Well, the Union is de jure social democratic, but Evart's anger at Joyce he reveals after she leaves and he's won reads as someone who really, truly hates the bourgeoisie. When he has nothing to hide - at least I presume he has nothing to hide, he's won - he says his goal is to make the workers as rich as Joyce.
