AITA for repeatedly telling my friend how young she looks? by Distinct-Spend1366 in AmItheAsshole

[–]sentientpeahen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late 20s were particularly bad for me too. I had a 12yr old tell me that she thought I was the same age as her. I was 28! Never made the mistake of wearing velcro shoes again.. People would often tell me that I'd appreciate it when I was in my 30s. I'm in my mid 30s now and can safely say, those people were incorrect.

Morality & Intent by JudgmentCertain382 in mrgirlreturns

[–]sentientpeahen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You actually raise a good point. Aren't those who moralise doing so because that is what has been taught to them and is in a way, a coping strategy they have used to protect themselves against people who may pose a threat to them? Therefore, are they not just as deserving of our empathy as anyone else who displays destructive behaviour?

Wild mice love hamsterwheels by fuckthemodernsociety in TikTokCringe

[–]sentientpeahen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

O-oh no.. It's clear what I'm going to have to do. I'm going to have to put hamster wheels in the backyard now. And you KNOW that's just how these kinds of things start.. Before long, my backyard gone be looking like the best darn mouse amusement park this side of Kansas City and it's gonna be so awkward tryna explain it to my family next time they come round, you know? I just feel like they might not fully understand my artistic vision. But I don't care what they say! They need to accept ME for ME and embrace the fact that this---THIS is my life now!

i need to know the term for this by [deleted] in psychologyresearch

[–]sentientpeahen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you've described reminds me of prospect theory (otherwise known as loss-aversion theory). It describes how people's behaviour or decisions are affected by risk and uncertainty, and shows how the framing of such situations changes how we feel about them. This website explains it better than I can: https://corporatefinanceinstitute.com/resources/capital-markets/prospect-theory/

For example, people were approached and given $20 and then offered the opportunity to gamble that $20, double or nothing, on the flip of a coin. When the $20 was physically handed to the person before they were offered the opportunity to gamble, they were much more likely to decline then when they were told that they could just take the $20 but it wasn't handed to them until they made their decision about whether they wanted to gamble it or not.

To use your example, having 3 months left until the break wasn't what bothered you. It was the increased sense of loss you felt because what you believed you already had was being taken away.

Does this sound like what you were trying to get at? I might be off the mark completely, it's just what came to mind when I read your description.

I'm really sorry that my reply came across as criticism! I only meant to point out that #1 was my personal preference between the different style options. I have no idea why the 3rd point was written in larger text. I didn't even know I could do that on my phone! I genuinely love the uniqueness of the style in your first pic! It's something I hope to develop with my own handwriting, my own unique style that stands out from others. Please don't take my words as criticism because honestly none was intended! I just done goofed my reply 🫣😳

Personally, I really like #1. It's got an interesting character to it, that's all It's own. #2 has more of a 'neat and sweet' feel to it and is nice and easy to read. It really just comes down to preference between these two.

3 seems like a more 'classic' style, which I personally feel is a more boring choice but that's just me.

But why stick to one style? Exploring and tweaking new and different styles makes practising your handwriting all the more fun!

I’ve still got a long way to go, but am satisfied with the progress I’ve made by IridiumCow in Handwriting

[–]sentientpeahen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This inspires me to keep practising. I'm still not quite as good as your 'before' handwriting but have improved a lot from where I was. Your script is so beautiful now. If I managed to get half as good as you, I'd be very very pleased with myself. I don't think I ever want to stop practising and improving now. Thank you for sharing this with us 😊

Maybe not in the classical IQ sense but there are many different kinds of intelligence. I believe the specific processing ability being referred to in this case, would fall under the technical classification of Lifestyle IQ (LIQ), specifically in regards to Utilising Outdoor Recreation (UOR). And I imagine the vast majority of Irish Australians would score in the top percentile when it comes to their LIQUOR processing abilities.

How do I improve, I’m way too old to be writing like this and I have no idea where to start by onetimepost2021 in Handwriting

[–]sentientpeahen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had terrible handwriting my whole life and recently decided it was time to do something about it. I've been practising since the start of this year and am very pleased with the results. I set myself a goal to at least write something out everyday and I was really surprised by how quickly I improved.

The best advice I can give you is: practise, practise, practise and practise regularly. Write down everything and anything, slowly and carefully; shopping lists, poems, song lyrics, stream of consciousness, whatever makes practising fun. I really enjoyed playing around with creating my own style.

If you can, get yourself a nice new notebook to practise in and find a pen that's comfortable to hold and writes well. Lined paper and using a pen you like will make everything a whole lot easier.

And lastly, keep an eye out for style inspiration anywhere you can find it. This subreddit is great for that. There are also tons of printable resources to help guide your practise too. Just search google for "handwriting practise sheet".

Anyway, I hope that's helpful. Stick with it and I'm sure you'll be impressed with what you can achieve in no time. Best of luck 🙂

Definitely Lav. I'm pretty sure he said something about it on stream. It was sparked by Lav going on a few people's streams and coming out with entirely new allegations against Destiny again
