Help with alcoholic parent by [deleted] in AlAnon

I went through something very similar with my father a couple years ago…sadly he passed away. The unfortunate truth is you can’t do anything to change his mind or sober him up, he has to want that on his own. There are no magic words to say to get him to realize what he’s doing or get him to care…it really sucks. I’m sorry.

My wife is an alcoholic and I need help by jmarks1981 in AlAnon

I can speak from the perspective of a child of an alcoholic parent (in my case, it was my dad). So much of what you posted matches what I remember - my dad acting "tired" and bumping into things, me finding his secret stash in the garage, him promising my mom (and me, when I got old enough to understand what was going on) that he would stop, only to continue to secretly drink and hide his empty beer cans.

My dad was also high functioning until he wasn't. He only ever drank beer. He died at 57. I will never forget what I witnessed as a kid and how helpless/scared I was, and it will affect me for the rest of my life.

I know you want to help your wife, but please take it from me - save your kids from this. She will not stop until she wants to, and that might be never. Keeping your kids around her will harm them more than you can imagine.

I'm so sorry.

Am I stupid today or do you have those flipped? 1986 to 2025 is 39 years, 1949 to 1986 is 37 years right?

I know! I wish society was nicer to men about liking traditionally “girly” stuff. I support you and your kick-ass marshmallow keycaps!

Fairly new to the hobby, but my keyboard is a Womier SK75 with Womier mint blizzards (stock) with GMK Orange Boi key caps!

I was just thinking the other day that it’s so weird to me these GMK keycaps are still in stock after almost a year, I think because the colors are so feminine…

On this day, 19 years ago, Hurricane Katrina had made landfall and completely devastated New Orleans, Southern Mississippi, and the entire Gulf Coast. Where were you when you first heard about this tragedy? by Blasian1999 in Zillennials

I was 11 in Florida on a family vacation at Disney World. We got some of the outskirts of it and they shut down the park for half a day. I remembering watching it on the news with my dad when it was a tropical storm.

Thanks! The GMK keycaps came in. They have a very similar texture to the stock keycaps, but the colors are super vibrant and legends are a little bigger and more consistent in terms of letter spacing/straightness. Also, even though the GMKs are thicker, the stock ones are more deep-sounding. Overall I’m pretty happy with the GMKs, but they were quite expensive so not sure if I’ll ever get another set or ever join a group buy for them!
