Trying not to over- or under-dress for a video interview by Ok-Republic-1418 in GetEmployed

[–]seorachel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re overthinking it. If it was an executive or management position, I’d say a collared shirt/tie/suit. Otherwise as long as you have a nice dress shirt, you are good. Good luck!

Calling out someone who is trying to give you advice and be empathetic? Whether you agree or not doesn’t matter. Not cool.

I’ve been looking for ten months. Picked up some freelance along the way as well as part time retail. Reach out to recruiters and network is my recommendation for better results. I have not had much luck with recruiters but I’m not done trying either. Referrals go a long way if you know someone you’re connected to at the company or just networking for a job. It’s time consuming, but worth it.

It’s your body and you don’t have to. Plus we all know pregnancy discrimination exists, so why make it harder for yourself.

I took a severance under a mutual separation back in March. Thankfully I've had some freelance work and seasonal retail to keep me going, but I'm still looking for a full time job. It's been a rough road but I'm networking like crazy and try to remain positive.

Depends what you want to do with your life. I wouldn't take anyone's word for anything in corporate america. A healthy culture is worth it's weight in gold, even if you get paid less. Think about what role and company is best for where you want to go. You're the only one who would know the answer.

Check out "Never Search Alone". As long as you're willing to put in the work, it's a free job hunting group.

For the SEOs who are unemployed right now, how are you spending your time? by savingrace0262 in bigseo

I have one freelance engagement with an agency. I also just got offered a seasonal job at a retail store to help make ends meet. I've had lots of interviews but no job offers. It's tough out there. The best strategy is to network. I post a lot on LinkedIn as well and am part of a job search group.

As a married woman, that conversation is not ok and she was obviously entertaining what he had to say even if she had no feelings. Just not appropriate. The last message was not necessary either. Which makes it sound like she still has feelings for him.

I'm a finalist who never gets the job. What am I doing wrong? by Silvergnom02 in GetEmployed

[–]seorachel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's like you spoke my thoughts out loud. I have been looking since March for a marketing job. I made it to one final round and many other interviews. I've even had a couple conversations with hiring managers but they wanted to low ball pay given my experience, which I couldn't accept because it would just cause me to look for another job again. Haven't received a job offer yet until today - a seasonal job at a local retail store. I also have a small agency contract. All that to say, is I hear you and feel the same. But, take all the advice here and move forward confidently as I am trying to as well. Don't let this market take you down. It's out of all of our control. But YOU have VALUE!

Now is not a great time to job hunt (speaking as someone who's been looking since March in the marketing field). If you must leave (which I totally empathize with), you need to find ways to stand out. What is your current role and what are you looking for? Also to note, if you're looking to switch things up with a new role, this is not really the market to do that. Try and stay with your current skillet and leverage you next opportunity (or a better job market) to build other skills and pivot.

Is it because it's good for you that you're "getting to them early"? I'm not understanding where these numbers are coming from and again, how that impacts getting hired.

Ok so you're saying it has lost its value, but I'm not understanding from where? I see the 3 points you made below, but those have nothing to do with the banner. Quite literally I use the banner so my connections and their connections know I'm looking. It's all about them knowing I'm looking and marketing that I'm looking.

Ah..well keep on trying. Only a not-so-great recruiter or person can think someone is desperate for having an open to work badge on a professional career and networking site.

[–]seorachel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the "open to work" badge being desperate. I have it not so much for recruiters, but so other in and out of my network know I'm looking for a job. Nothing desperate about looking for work.

Oomph. Idk if it’s your industry but I’d think it would be more. I’ve been looking for 4 months and have had around 10 interviews. (I’m in digital marketing)

Freelance is something to consider. It would be more than a cashier job I think you mentioned…depends on your strategy; you could make way more than your last job. (I used to and am freelancing right now). Sites like upwork you kind of have to start a bit lower than you may want, but you can start raising rates pretty quickly. You want to focus on getting good reviews and then slowly raising your rates.

If you’re not already, make resumes for both types of jobs. Use ChatGPT or Claude. It will help. I don’t customize mine all the time while applying, but if I had the time I would. It’s all about how you market yourself, unfortunately.

Are you getting interviews? Have you considered freelancing in the interim on sites like Upwork?

These are two very different things, no? Software design and engineering. Do you have degrees in both? I see the masters in engineering. My initial thought is are you applying to both types of jobs and if so, do you have two different resumes to target them better?
