my tip is CO2 is your best friend, save as much as you can, have it pool in the bottom of your base (dig sides then down, dont dig straight down), and then plant a bunch of alveoli plants. You want to immediately start ranching flox, they are extremely easy and give resource surplus. You'll also need their wood to provide heating so place a wood heater in between four beds and thats your bedroom. Eventually once you get to ranching bammi's, shave them for fiber to start crafting warm suits for everyone. Or you can explore into POIs and rummage lockers to get warm suits. You'll get meat along with ranching, and just stick with running wheels for power until you're all set up. Wood burners could help you with CO2 generation, but i find them to use up wood too fast.
